Derek I Snedden POLS-Y 353 Professor Fowler 20 July 2015 Eagle Forum: The Pro-family movement The Eagle forum was founded by Phyllis Schlafly in 1972 and began as a trust fund to defend conservative agendas in 1967. During the proposal of the Equal Rights Amendment in 1972, Schlafly founded a group with more proactive approach called “Stop ERA” with one goal in mind, to defeat the ratification of ERA. After the success of the “Stop ERA” campaign, Phyllis Schlafly founded the eagle forum, a pro family group dedicated to “opposing all encroachments against American sovereignty through…feminist goals” (Schlafly). Althoug the primary interaction that eagle forum has had with the womens movement was the ERA, they also are incessantly combating …show more content…
As of 2013 this interest group has reported over 80,000 members. The women’s movement otherwise known as the feminist movement refers to a campaign with the aim of reforming issues such as, reproductive rights, pay gap, woman’s suffrage, and rape. Although, Schlafly is a notable conservative woman, recently her ideas have fallen out of favor in the right wing, in order to make room for new conservative women, such as Sarah Palin. In public appearances Sarah Palin is known for her pro-family, Christian fundamentalist ideals. However, something that is little know about her is that she supports feminism and even speaks highly of radical feminists such as Alice Paul, calling her a “grizzly woman”. Palin, unlike Schlafly has found a middle ground between heavy social conservatism and feminism, something that has given her a lot of respect in the feminist movement. Schlafly however, has received significant criticism from prominent feminists such as Gloria Steinem who have remarked at the irony of Schlaflys positions on women staying at home to be a mother, while she herself takes on the role of political activist, lawyer, editor of a newspaper and speaker at anti-liberal

Valley Forge was a base winter camp located next to Pennsylvania. George Washington helped out and taught the soldiers how to use guns and fight battles. I am going to leave Valley Forge because the quality of this camp is horrible. (DOC A) There was a very high percentage of soldiers who died of illness because they did not cure any illnesses.
Valley Forge is a winter camp set up by george washington and his troops. The camp was horrible! They were low on supplies, and not prepared. People died of illness and disease. It was a fight against disease, nature, and themselves.
This is a passage about one of the first basketball players to ever set foot on a basketball court. He was a great hero during the Civil Rights Movement. His name was a great inspiration to African Americans all over the U.S. during the movement. He was born on March 31, 1923 in a town that most of you are probably familiar with, Oakland, California.
Valley Forge: Should I re-enlist? The question all soldiers at Valley Forge asked themselves was will I re-enlist? I decided I was going to re-enlist why would I not re-enlist and not let all people whom I’m fighting lose their freedom from a stupid decision I made. Valley Forge sadly was the ugly duck compared to where the Red Coats were staying.
APUSH Unit 2 Long Essay In 1603, the English were still a small rising nation, poorer than most, and less powerful than Spain and France. Although the British colonies settled in the Americas late, they quickly became a dominant force in the new world. After they acquired their first permanent settlement in Jamestown, VA in 1607, the British became attracted to greater power and more land, which was the first building block of perhaps the most powerful European nation of the time period. Due to their growth in the Americas, the British were able to be compared to the Spanish colonies of the time period, which boosted the English’s confidence.
If I was in Valley Forge, I would stay and train there. There are very harsh conditions at Valley Forge. I would stay through that to test myself and see how tough I am to see if I can last the conditions. I also want to be known as someone who fought the conditions and trained for war for testing at Valley Forge. I also want people to notice my skills and endurance as a fighter.
Her leadership and ERA draft would become a key part of the battle for women’s rights as her work would be revised and modified many times during the women’s rights and suffrage movement of the 1960s to better address the social norms and gain more support. On the opposing end of the battle, Phyllis Schlafly was a conservative activist who founded the STOP ERA organization to fight against the ratification of the ERA. “Under Schlafly’s guidance, conservative era opponents seized a moral high ground by claiming that while ERA backers wanted to topple traditional values, they—the amendment opponents—were the true supporters of the American family” (Dewolf, pg. 228, 2021). Schlafly believed the ratification of the ERA would remove traditional gender roles which would harm the American family structure and the entire movement was “opposing Mother Nature herself”(Schlafy, 1981). This opinion was led by the belief that under the ERA, women would pursue careers of their own which would increase divorce rates, leave children home alone, and disrupt traditional family life.
INTEREST GROUPS N.A.A.C.P The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People or the N.A.A.C.P was the first American civil rights organization. It was established in February 19, 1909 it was created after a race riot took place in Springfield,Illinois. After the riot lead to a series of lynchings against African Americans, the N.A.A.C.P founders believed that African Americans were not being fairly protected by the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendment. The goal of this organization is to make sure that all minorities were being treated equally under the law.
“They are “crying out to other women to join with Susan B Anthony list , and other organization to end the practice and to really welcome both women and child without cutting those bonds ”’ (Sarah jean). Susan B Anthony began the “Susan B Anthony list” this was an organization to end the practice of abortion. Susan B Anthony changed views on women, equality and abortion. If she never advocated and imposed her opinion we would still be stuck in a time were women did not voted
“Beta club is not for everyone, it is just for those who want to be leaders.” That is exactly why I want to be a member of the Beta club. I want to be a leader. The Beta club is an opportunity giving program, which will give us the chance to serve others and be around others who are different from us. The Beta club can open up many students’ hearts and convey their dreams to the world.
Phyllis Schlafly started the campaign of ratifying the Equal Rights Amendment in 1923 and I am beyond certain that the ERA activists today will not stop until it is ratified and accepted into the constitution. At the end of ERA battle, Sonia Johnson made an incredible and uplifting statement for all women. She said, “I am sure I am not the only feminist who is occasionally clear-sighted enough to be grateful to Phyllis Schlafly for making us have to fight so hard for the Equal Rights Amendment. Whether in the end this amendment is the way women will achieve legal equality or not, it is still true that the struggle over its ratification has provided the greatest political training ground for women in the history of the world”
It would be an honor to be among the exemplary students who represent the National Honor Society. The first time I heard about NHS was in the second semester of my freshman year. Ever since then I pushed myself to work hard. Thinking that by pushing myself harder to get that A in that one academically challenging class, putting on a smile every day, and getting better at time management while displaying character, scholarship, leadership, and service will help me to become an NHS student who represents the ideology of the club. In many environments, in and out of school, I believe I display those qualities.
Interested parents can choose to participate on an advisory council. This committee works with GATE resource teachers, school administrators, general education teachers, and other school personnel to receive updates, provide feedback, and ask questions related to GATE programs. The advisory council meets at least three times a year in order to ensure that the education of every child is enhanced by assisting with program planning and assessment. The role of parent representatives is to serve as a liaison between the school’s GATE program and the school community. Parents may find information about joining the local advisory council by meeting with a school administrator or the GATE coordinator.
