Eat Your Bugs vs. Insect Farmers The texts “Eat Your Bugs” by Miguel Vila and Laura Allen and “Insect Farmers...” by The Washington Post have both similarities and differences. First, both articles show and explain that eating bugs is good for the environment. For example, on page 24 of “Eat Your Bugs” the text states “But the poisons wash away in the rain. They end up in rivers and kill fish and other living things.” Similarly, on page 2 of “Insect Farmers” it says “It would also reduce the environmental footprint.” This is similar because both articles are saying that eating bugs is good for the environment with different reasons. The poisons that the average citizen uses to kill bugs washes away in the rain and could not only kill bugs, but other wildlife too. In both cases eating bugs is good for the environment in many different ways. A second similarity is that eating bugs is healthy for you. For example on page 22 of “Eat Your Bugs” the text …show more content…
For example “Eat Your Bugs” doesn’t even talk about transportation. In contrast, on page of “Insect Farmers” it says “No one wants to be shipping live crickets and have a semi truck turn it over.” This information differs because “Eat Your Bugs” has no problems with transporting bugs and “Insect Farmers” says that no one wants to be shipping bugs for various reasons. In conclusion, transporting bugs is not a good idea from “Insect Farmers” and “Eat Your Bugs” doesn’t have a problem with shipping bugs. In conclusion, the texts “Eat Your Bugs” and “Insect Farmers” are similar in that they both say that bugs are healthy and that they are good for the environment. However, they are different because “Eat Your Bugs” says that they have exactly the right amount of bugs and “Insect Farmers” say that they need more bugs to feed everyone. Another difference is that they don’t want to transport bugs for many different
There is always opposition to pesticides because of the harm that it can cause on the environment and the animals alike. Pesticides though have saved a lot of hard work for farmers over the past couple of decades because it does all the dirty work, for example, the killing of weeds and other pests. Pesticides have also saved a lot of money for farmers by preventing pests from damaging crops or taking the nutrients and water supply away from crops. (Whitford, 7) In the future we need to start to find less toxic ways to prevent pests from attacking the crops and vegetation. This would prevent a lot of the other costs associated with pesticides for example, health costs for farmers that are exposed to the toxic chemicals or the killing of the habitats in the surrounding areas.

In a survival situation food, water, and shelter are the number one priorities to live, therefore a signal fire would not be helpful until you know that you have a system for getting meat in place that works. The fictional story, "Lord of The Flies", is a rare situation that is not probable to happen in the real world. With that aside all humans would agree that food helps you survive longer than a small fire that doesn 't provide much for someone or a group of people trying to survive. There is a time in the 3rd chapter of the book that shows Simon helping the children pick food off the tree because they were starving. If they had meat this would not be a problem because meat provides protein and other nutrients that are essential to keep people
“UN Recommends Eating More Bugs” by David J. Tenenbaum is a report that informs and persuades readers to eat more bugs. In, “UN Recommends Eating More Bugs,” as reported in The Why Flies, the reporter builds an argument that eating insects as a source of protein in animal and human diets could help solve the world food problem. The reporter uses economical, ecological, and nutritional facts and evidence to strengthen the logic and persuasiveness of his argument. First, Tenenbaum uses economical evidence to strengthen the logic and persuasiveness of his argument.
According to “Stay away from that Hot Dog” by Dakshana Bascaramurty and “should we banded competitive eating” by Sarah McCurry, Competitive eating is not only dangerous, but a waste of food. So it should be banned. Competitive eating is dangerous.
In both cases the authors believes that eating bugs is ok and is trying to convince you into eating bugs. A second similarity is that both texts are telling you that bugs are easier to farm and it is better for the environment. For example on page 2 of “Insect Farmers” the text states “Insects take up much less space than most livestock. ”on page 24 of “Eat Your Bugs” it says Also Raising is easier than raising cows or
“Consider the Lobster,” by David Foster Wallace, published in the August 2004 edition of Gourmet Magazine explores the morality of the consumption of lobsters through the analysis of the Maine Lobster Festival. Foster Wallace guides his readers through his exploration of the festival and general circumstances of lobster eating before evoking a sense of obligation to the creature’s well being. His gentle slide into the ‘big picture’ through his causal argument wades readers into the depths of his thoughts through the power of storytelling until they are left with no choice but to engage with their own perception of the act with skepticism. Ultimately, the passage commands readers to reexamine their own consumption of lobsters regardless of
Antoinette Never Said, “Let Them Eat Cake” Despite popular belief that Marie said the phrase “let them eat cake”, she actually never did say the phrase even though it probably never will be disassociated from Antoinette. In reality it was an author, Rousseau, who wrote the phrase in an autobiographical book in 1765 when Antoinette was still a child in Austria. Covington, Richard. " Marie Antoinette: the teenage queen."
Protecting your garden against uninvited guests can be a challenge. Stink bugs are no doubt unwelcome visitors in anyone 's garden. They subsist on fruit and foliage, both of which you no doubt are most likely harvesting in your garden. Ever since these critters first made landfall on US soil, having been brought over here as stowaways from southeast Asia aboard a cargo vessel sometime in the late 1990s, they have proven to be a nuisance for American households and have proven to be a huge economic threat to American farmers, whose crops are increasingly coming under attack from these bugs. Stink bugs are harmless to humans but are wreaking havoc on the American agricultural industry.
With those insect populations going out of control, not only do you need to use more bug spray. But that also means more devastating things like farmers must use more pesticides to remove the bugs off their crops. Which
Tim Jenkins Brain Story 13 “The Thirsty Fly” Dr. Kroger Psy 375 11-16-16 In Weiner’s “The Thirsty Mind” article (2014), the neurostructures of a fruit fly were analyzed as it related to “thirst”. Kent Berridge has spent decades of his life devoted to the biological reward circuitry that exist. Berridge’s theory of rewards was broken down into 3 subcategories; liking, wanting and learning (Weiner, 2014). Different species have similar responses to a sweet taste: sticking their tongues out, which Berridge defines loosely as liking (Weiner, 2014). “Wanting” is the pursuit of what the organism likes; while the associations regarding their likes is learning (Weiner, 2014).
Imagine a world without bees. It might seem like it would be nice, a world without an annoying, stinging pesty insect. Because of industrial agriculture, we are on our way there now. The United States, and other countries, need to make a treaty to ban the use of neonicotinoid, a type of chemical used on plants, and insecticides because these chemicals are mentally and physically disabling bees; causing more and more bees to die; and without these bees, we won't have any food. Bees are an important, if not the MOST important part of creating food.
Therefore, another alternative needs to be found and they have discovered one: entomophagy. As defined in the Oxford Dictionary, entomophagy is “the practise of eating insects, especially by people”. This is not a joke, edible insects may be the future of food and entomophagy may be the key to food security and environment issues. We would certainly gain significant advantages from integrating insects in our daily diet.
