An invasive species is defined as a species that isn’t native to a country and has negative effects on our economy, environment, or health. The species I am researching is the Asian carp. Its scientific name is Cyprinous Capario. The Asian carp live in many different areas around the United States, such as the Great Lakes area and the Mississippi River. Lake Michigan is home to very diverse populations and species. The introduction of Asian carp into the Great Lakes has had an adverse effect on native fish and could jeopardize the fishing industry, particularly lake perch and trout populations. The Asian carp eat many tiny plants and animals, which are food for many native fish. This will eventually affect the population and growth of the Great Lakes native fish. The Asian carp should be removed from the Great Lakes as shown in the following paragraphs. The Asian carp are an invasive species because they are killing off many native species by either destroying their habitats or eating a large amount of food. Their population spreads very quickly, which makes it hard to stop or control them. Carp that are filter-feeder often compete with fish such as bigmouth buffalo and paddlefish, by taking away some of their food sources. They can also affect human lives; they have been known to jump up to 10 feet out of the water and even break bones. …show more content…
Asian carp could make some native fish species extinct. There are many organizations such as The United States Geological Service that are trying to get rid of this problem by exterminating the Asian carp population completely. There aren’t many drawbacks of eliminating the community of Asian carp besides the fact that they won’t be able to fulfill their original duty. I think Asian carp need to be removed because they are doing more harm than good to our
Blackfish, a documentary by Gabriela Cowperthwaite, a historically observed impact of the captivity of killer whales. This Documentary focuses on the orca Tilikum, who was captured off the coast of Iceland. On February 21, 1991, Sealand trainer Keltie Byrne fell into the pool with Tilikum. She was pulled to the bottom by Tilikum, tossed around, and drowned. It took Sealand employees two hours to recover her.
Channa Argus, commonly known as the northern snakehead, is one of the many invasive species around the world. This species is a top level predator and was introduced to several American states in 2002, but its natural habitat is based in southern and eastern Asia. Northern snakeheads were transported to the waters of America by being sold from pet stores and live food fish markets, followed by being released into the wild. The northern snakehead fish threatens and competes for the native species’ resources and habitat.
For many it’s a first pet, a gift from family, something you won as a prize at a carnival, but for Canadian residents the familiar orange goldfish everyone knows and loves is becoming a serious problem. Some flush them in a hurry because they no longer want to take care of them, others commit them to a porcelain vortex because they believe their beloved fish has passed, and the Canadian Government is issuing a warning now to citizens of Canada to stop flushing their fish. Just a few goldfish with the potential to disrupt an entire ecosystem Goldfish are entering the ecosystem the way that a lot of invasive species end up in an environment they don’t belong, Humans are putting them there. Human interference is one of the leading causes of the beginning of over population of invading alien species. In this case many of the fish are going down drains, and ending up in Canada’s lakes and rivers.
An invasive species is an organism (plant, animal, fungi or bacteria) that is not native to the ecosystem. The invasive species can also have a negative effect on the economy, the environment and our health. The great horned owl is not an invasive species but are a species control officer of sorts, by eating mice and other small mammals they keep the population
Imagine a world without any fish in our ocean, nothing for the next generation no ahis mahi mahis ,marlins and many more fish we won’t have if over fish our oceans. I feel that overfishing in Hawaii is a major problem for 3 reasons such as people are taking fish that are under the size limit on the fish, another example is people are taking the fish that are the big breeders and they don’t give them a chance to repopulate and for the last example is people are taking more than they need and it could be a waste because it just sits in the freezer. The first reason I think overfishing is a major problem in Hawaii is because people are taking fish that are small and under the size limit that they should be taking.
Blackfish (2013) is an American documentary film directed by Gabriela Cowperthwaite and produced by Manuel V. Oteyza. The documentary primarily concerns the controversy of captured Killer Whales at the theme park Sea World, primarily that of Tilikum, an Orca responsible for the deaths of 2010 SeaWorld trainer Dawn Brancheau and two other individuals. The documentary begins with this incident but goes as far back to the 1970 's show the audience how young Orcas are captured in the wild and taken from their families and natural environments. Since its release at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival Blackfish has achieved both critical acclaim and caused controversy regarding SeaWorld 's treatment of its animals as well as retaliation from SeaWorld as to the legitimacy of the film 's claims.
They are silent killers, living in backyards, parks and neighborhoods all across the world. They specialize in crowding out, choking, and killing native residents to the point where they rule over the land. The prevention and elimination of these species cost billions of dollars to the United States each year. Our commercial, agricultural, and recreational activities depend on the execution of these visitors. According to the United States Department of Agriculture, these killers go by a less potent name: invasive species.
Invasive Species Invasive, alien species, those which colonise, expand and out compete native species (Smith & Smith, 2009), are a major threat to our habitats, terrestrial and aquatic species, and biodiversity. Agricultural and leisure industries are affected as well as conservation welfare and the continued wellbeing of man, flora and fauna. Whole ecosystems can be distorted and the economic cost of awareness, prevention and eradication systems is substantial. Most invasive species have been introduced by mandeliberately or otherwise. As an island, Ireland has been subjected to less invasive species than larger nearby land masses e.g. Europe, but islands have a less diverse species population and are therefore more vulnerable when invaded.
If the fish are not healthy, that can adversely affect people. People could eat contaminated fish, or people cannot sell the fish because they are contaminated. Some fish may die from the pollution, leading to less fish for catching. Lower populations of fish and other marine life can also cause an imbalance in the food chain. Predators can also be harmed

Invasive species have been a massive problem in Hawaii since the 17s and 18 hundreds. At first, it wasn’t that big of a deal, but the influx of invasive species grew over time, and it became a dangerous slippery slope. Species that were once alienated poured into Hawaii and destroyed indigenous species that had been native to Hawaii for a very long time. Since then, the Hawaiian people and advocates of removing invasive plants and animals have banded together to help remove these species. There has been a great global effort to remove invasive species in all places, but the hasty spread of them has made it almost impossible to eradicate a lot of them. I think my group can majorly help with this by educating you all about the seriousness of invasive species.
Also, if the water becomes too polluted, then there would be no fish to catch. One stereotype that has the most truth to it is that fisherman lie, but mostly only about the size and how the fish was caught. Everyone lies, and fisherman are no exception to this. Afterall, fisherman only do it to spice up the story because who likes a boring story, and it wouldn’t be a fishing story if the size of the fish wasn’t exaggerated. Every group has its bad batch of people that make the rest of the group look bad as a whole, and the fisherman group is no exception to this truth.
1. 90-100 million tons are killed and wiped off the planet each year. Consisting of some of the most beautiful creatures on the planet. Fish are a primary food source to 3.5 billion people worldwide and the depletion of the species is leaving millions of people hungry. Over fishing is a huge problem that needs to be stopped.
According to world wildlife organisation, overfishing occurs when more fish are caught than the population can replace through natural reproduction. Gathering as many fish as possible may seem like a profitable practice, but overfishing has serious consequences. The results may not only affect the balance of life in the oceans, but also the social and economic well-being of the coastal communities who depend on fish for their way of life. According to the research world wildlife organisation, 1.6% of the world’s oceans have been declared as marine protected areas (MPAS), and 90% of existing MPAS are open to fishing.
Pre-baiting the swim. The first successes came from a small lake outside Stockholm called Bagarsjön. It was in this lake we first realized that the crucian carp was an extreme specialist. What we tried to do was to change it’s feeding habits.
