Life is different out here in the new land. I’m living in a colony named Connecticut with my friends named John and Bill. Before I got here, Connecticut was discovered 5th out of the 13 colonies founded. Connecticut's major city is known as Hartford, New Haven. Connecticut was also founded in 1636 by Thomas Hooker and others. Hooker, who was a Puritan leader, was dissatisfied with the government of the Puritan church of Massachusetts. As a result, Hooker establish a new colony, Connecticut, with about 100 colonists who shared in his beliefs and ideas. In 1637, the Pequot War occurred which was a war between the colonists and Native Americans. The war was fought over land disputes between the two sides. Hooker inspired the “Fundamental Orders of Connecticut” which was a democratic constitution that formed a representative government. Connecticut still is self-governed, and all male church members can vote Fundamental Orders which brought the organization of government in the colony. In Connecticut, the climate of the colony varies with winters long and having about 20 inches of snow near the coast and up to 50 inches in the northern mountains. However, summers are quite mild and short leading to long. Connecticut’s economy mainly focuses in manufacturing goods and providing them for town life which including ship building and the export of rum. Connecticut has natural materials and raw resources including fish, whales, and timber. Agriculture is difficult for crops like wheat due to the poor soil, but corn, squash, etc can be raised instead. In addition their economy, there are also some social characteristics that vary in Connecticut. Connecticut is held together by law and founded for religious reasons rather than economic reasons which most of the other colonies were founded for. Connecticut is much more church-centered and family-oriented than the others at first. In addition, another social characteristic includes the hostile relationship between the Native Americans and colonists.
