Most people are misinformed when it comes to the Florida alligator. Alligators just like any other animal or human being want a safe and secure area of living. These creatures want to be able to live out of harm’s way. One area that seems to be protective of these intelligent reptiles is known as The Florida Everglades. The Florida Everglades is the third-largest national park out of the 48 states. It is also the first national park created to protect the fragile ecosystem. Without the protection of the alliga-tors and thus the ecosystem area we know as the everglades could eventually become nonexist-ent. At one time “this wetland was called the river of grass by an author back in 1947” (Strawn 17). The Seminoles called it “Payhaio-kee” which means “grassy water” and later the white people began to call it the “Ever Glade” (Strawn 17). This area is considered …show more content…
It is considered to be “the closest thing to a living dinosaur” (Visiting the Heart of Alligator Country). People ask why or how an alligator could be compared to such a large extinct reptile. Well here is how. An adult alligator can “exert more than 1000 pounds per square inch of force” when biting or holding on to something. Once an alligator “closes it jaw on a limb the force is so great that getting the alligator to open its mouth again is virtually impossible “ (Strawn 43 ). The adult reptile “has small legs and webbed feet that are designed for “propulsion and maneuvering but not for attack” (Visiting the Heart of Alligator Country) However the “swipe of a gators tail can knock a person into the water when it is most agile, powerful and destructful” (Strawn 43). Not to men-tion an alligators tail is what gives it it’s speed of up to approximately 20 miles per hour in water but then becomes a slower awkward giant on land. This sounds to be very similar to that of some of the dinosaurs from many years

It had a short, deep head, large eyes and three longitudinal ridges along its skull (giving it its name). Trilophosuchus may have been terrestrial rather than aquatic. Its neck musculature, similar to that of other possibly terrestrial crocodiles, suggests that Trilophosuchus held its head above its body like monitor lizards do. Size range 1.5m long (head to tail) Distribution Trilophosuchus is known only from the Riversleigh World Heritage Fossil Site, northwestern Queensland.
Marjory discovered the uniqueness and the admiration of the Everglades in 1920 (Douglas). From this, it is obvious that Marjory admired nature and would loved how green the grass looked or how she saw animals throughout Florida. Marjory said she wanted to write books about the Everglades because she wanted to change people's mind to realize the importance of the Everglades (Douglas). “Whoever wants me to talk, I'll come over and tell them about the necessity of preserving the Everglades” (Douglas). Douglas wanted to seek people’s attention to encourage them that the Everglades was an important natural resource.
Imagine walking on an island untouched by man, a place where people can see the grace of nature. An island like this seems to good too be true in a world with concrete everywhere. This island is a Florida Key that is part of a national park in Florida named Biscayne National Park that was established due to two great factors. But, Biscayne National Park wasn’t just established, it was established because of a multitude of different reasons. These reasons are a rich history of how it was established and the increasing struggle to conserve the Biscayne land.
The Cuban Treefrog, latin name Osteopilus septentrionalis, is originally found (native) to Cuba, the Isle of Youth, the Cayman Islands, and the Bahamas. Cuban Treefrogs are estimated to have been introduced into the Florida ecosystem in the 1920s. It is widely agreed by scientists in the Florida ecological community that the Cuban Treefrogs came into Florida through shipment and freight packages coming from the Caribbean. Quickly, this invasive species flooded through Southern Florida, and by 2013, they had spread their population to the very Northernmost end of Florida. Potentially, the Cuban Treefrog can spread to surrounding state habitats; South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and Texas have suitable, coastal ecosystems that could support a Cuban Treefrog population.
How is The Presence of the Burmese Python Changing the Everglades? By: Mallory Hayes The presence of the Burmese Python is negatively impacting Florida's everglades. According to the news article, Andrew Bill Nelson brought a 16 foot Burmese Python snakeskin to a meeting to prove how much of a threat these pythons are.
We will describe here some pests in Southwest Florida that are quite deadly and should always be avoided. Cockroaches We start with the most common pests that are perhaps present in all parts of the worlds. Cockroaches are the most common pests near beaches and
Ray Bradbury used figurative language to describe the Tyrannosaurus Rex in “A Sound of Thunder. ’’ Ray Bradbury compared the legs to pistons, this means that the Tyrannosaurus Rex has strong legs. He compared it’s eyes to ostrich eggs, this means that the dinosaur has big eyes. He also compared muscles to thick ropes, this means that the dino has big thighs.
Well in both movies as you can see the animal seems in control of the people like in jaws the shark seem to be really smart because everything that the Capitan Quint try to do to the shark seem like a game for the white shark because he was in control at that moment. But it was impossible to kill the smart shark because I think he knew every move that they did to try to kill the shark. Else I think he knew the island around him because he knew were the people went or when they were in the water. The tyrannosaurus rex seem in control at the Jurassic park because every time the tyrannosaurus did damage to the people or the surface around him, the people never had the right tool to kill the animal or stop it and when you do not kill an animal
Stephan Lautenschlager, a bio mechanist from the University in England, created computer models of three dino jaws by using pictures and 3-D scans of well-preserved fossils. Causing him to discover how far a dinosaur could open its jaws. He found very little research on the muscles and tendons of a dino’s jaw, so he gathered information on their closest relatives, birds and crocodiles. With this information he was able to make computerized models of the skulls of 3 dinos. The allosaurus fragilis, T-Rex, and the erlikosaurus andrewsi.
Without the flow of fresh water to the Everglades fish wouldn 't be able to live, the Florida Bay wouldn’t be able to survive and we wouldn’t have clean water to drink. On page 113 paragraph 1 it states “ These wetlands were once home to many rare, endangered, and exotic species. However, this is no longer the case due to
Florida Gulf Coast University is not only home to about 13,717 undergraduate college students but is also inhabited by wildlife. FGCU is approximately 740 acres and half of those acres are inhabited by wildlife like gators (FGCU the College Board). Alligators can be found in almost all bodies of water here on campus. Alligators, if you give them characteristic traits, would be actually considered shy creatures in a way. You know the old saying “they are more afraid of you then you are of them” perfectly describes gators.
Once they are in the past and see the Tyrannosaurus Ray Bradbury uses imagery to explain what the dinosaur looks like. The Tyrannosaurus was described as, “...thirty feet above half the trees, a great evil of god, folding its delicate watchmaker’s
Reptile scales act as a protective layer to help prevent water loss from their bodies. Mammals are warm-blooded animals and reptiles are cold-blooded animals. Mammals are endothermic which means they can produce and control their body heat internally. Reptiles are ectothermic, they use their resources such as the sun to get
