The American Civil War between the Union and Confederate states occurred due to their different stands on slavery. The Union stood against slavery and the Confederates for it. Each were fighting over the national government’s power whether they would prohibit it or not. Then there were border states in the middle of it all who were undecided about the fact. Those territories were Missouri, Kentucky, West Virginia, and Maryland. The Northern states won the Civil War on May 9, 1865 and the border states returned to the Union ( During the war, Abraham Lincoln was president of the United States. The Freedmen’s Bureau, created in 1865 by congress and led by the war department’s General Oliver Howard. Located in eleven different districts, it was created to provide aid for the four million freed slaves. After the slaves were considered free according to the emancipation proclamation a lot of the left the plantations with no foundation. They didn’t have a permanent house, job, or supplies. Freedman’s Bureau was the place for them to get everything they needed after this journey. The kinds of things they provided was shelter, medicine, food, and schooling. They provided aid for black and white poor men. Also, help administer the justice in cases involving freedman and redistribute to them abandoned lands. Freedmen Bureau did everything they could to make sure that the freedmen could get a new life started. Although the white law makers and Ku Klux Klan were against their ideas, Abraham Lincoln and some abolitionist members were for it. The bureau had nine-hundred people to help with distribution, but not enough to keep up with the huge demand of four million people. The positive outcome of it all included marrying slaves together, reuniting them with family, educational lessons from teachers, medical aid, and new
From this book I obtained information on The Freedmen’s Bureau. In March the Bureau was established to do wonderful things for the economy and its people. The Bureau was mainly to help the poor whites and blacks. The Bureau gave food to the hungry, medicine to the sick, and it even established schools for people who lacked education. Jobs were even provided to people who were out of work especially people with families.
Events were going as planed in the first year of the war. In the second year of the war, the battles’ results were too ugly due to the incompatibility between the new weapons and the old war tactics with no concrete signs of possible future improvement. Therefore, he issued the Emancipation Proclamation in September 1862, despite opposition even from some Northerners. Lincoln declared war for the sake of union. Southerners were motivated to secession by their greed for control and the fear at the same time of the Northerners domination.
This helped the Union accomplish maintain itself. After the Emancipation Proclamation, activist Frederick Douglas was highly involved in encouraging former slaves to join the fight for the
The Emancipation Proclamation was issued in the middle of the Civil War by Abraham Lincoln. It was not intended to free all the slaves. It only freed the ones in the Confederate states, while the border states were not freed. Lincoln believed slavery was awful and morally wrong and wanted to help put an end to slavery once and for all. The Union issued this Proclamation to redefine the Civil War.
My dear nation, it has been twelve years since the terrible war that brought an end to slavery. Over those years, it has been a bit of a rebuilding process for our nation, more so in the south. The war left many towns in the South destroyed, with plantations burned and railroads destroyed. Soon after the war, the Freedman’s Bureau was established, and brought food to millions of newly freed slaves. It also started schools, and made efforts to settle blacks on their own land.
From the beginning of his administration, Abraham Lincoln got a lot of pressure from those who supported the abolition of slavery and radical Republicans to issue an Emancipation Proclamation. At that time, Abraham Lincoln was debating upon linking abolition to the war. On July 17th, 1862, the Congress passed the Second Confiscation Act that gave freedom to the salves, who were owned by the supporters of the Confederacy. Thus, it was the signal that Lincoln waited to issue the declaration (Woog, 2009, p. 40). Emancipation Proclamation was an executive order issued by President Abraham Lincoln that freed the slaves in those states that were in rebellion.
Abraham Lincoln was one of the best US president. He was born into a poor family. Despite his background he was able become president. He starts to self study law. Lincoln had the idea that states do not have the right to leave the Union.
The wealthy were in need of cheap labor, and with the amount of blacks being sentenced, most jails still functioning were overflowing with them. Leasing was designed for black convicts, and laws passed allowed towns and independent men to lease them for a price. They black convicts were put to work building railroads, levees or doing work for private owners. The convicts did work that free labor could not. Conditions were horrible and they were forced to work knee deep in muck, in malaria-ridden swamps, and to dynamite tunnels.
There have been many significant actions that have been taken over the course of history by United States presidents. These actions have had major effects on ted States foreign and domestic policies. One important action taken by a United States president was the Emancipation Proclamation. The Proclamation had significant effects on United States history and society.
Another economic progress which occurred is the establishment of the Freedmen’s Savings Bank according to Professor Jenkins, lectures notes and his book Climbing Up to Glory the Freed man bank was created by Congress along with the Freedmen’s Bureau to aid Freedmen in their transition from freedom to slavery. Africans Americans wanted to show the whites that they were not “lazy” by depositing small amount of money in the bank. In this book, it depicts that “the Freedman Savings Bank was a morale booster and source of inspiration for blacks,” because when they arrived to the bank, they would be greeted by African American tellers, in addition at one point Frederick Douglas was the President of that said bank.
The slaves could work in the field or in the house. Many of them didn't have an education and couldn't read or write. Thankfully, slavery was abolished in the year 1865. Though it may seem they were free, they weren't. They had more rights such as voting, but they had a long way to go.

MARÍA DEL MAR VIDAL VIÑA 26/03/2015 This is a political speech given by Abraham Lincoln during the American Civil War in Gettysburg ( Pensilvania ) on 19 of November in 1863, four and a half month after the Gettisburg Battle. The Civil War was a war in America in April 12, 1861 – May 13, 1865 and it was a very bloody war. It was a fight between the North and South because the South wanted to succeed and make a new country. Before the war the North and South had grown apart due to specialization and so the South farmed and the North used different ways to make money. The North or the “Union” as they were called were often merchants or different jobs, these jobs didn’t need slaves to support their economy. This lead people to think more clearly and see evils of slavery because the weren’t beneficial to them anymore.
Unlike for the black race, the agencies were highly effective annd massively improved their lives for the better. Most of the white population reclaimes lost property, homes and their original lifestyle. With help from the New Deal the white people were able to be finacially stable to provide their families and children with food, an education and more than just daily essentials and other leisures/luxuries after a while. Because of this the New Deal was more significant to the white population compared to the black
