In the play of Macbeth, there are some characters that could be responsible for Duncan’s death. I personally think Lady Macbeth is the cause of Duncan's murder. She is the most ambitious to kill the king in the beginning of the play, pressuring Macbeth. Lady Macbeth was persuasive of driving Macbeth to commit the murder. She manipulates him to go through with the murder even though he was very doubtful about it. Despite of the fact other characters may have partially play a part to the murder of King Duncan such as the three witches and Macbeth himself, she was the main motivator of the execution as her role was the most prominent. Without her arousing Macbeth into committing the murder of Duncan, this killing would not have happened. When …show more content…
Macbeth states to Lady Macbeth, “we will proceed no further in this business” (I, VII) since he almost finally decides to refuse to kill Duncan. However, Lady Macbeth uses different manipulative methodologies towards Macbeth and persuades him to consult the killing of Duncan. “So green and pale” (I, VII), Lady Macbeth even called him a coward. From the same scene, she mentions, “From this time, such I account thy love”, implying that if Macbeth cant stay steady concerning the murder of the king, then she will consider his love for her to be as similarly conflicting. Later in scene, Lady Macbeth states that if she had made such a promise as Macbeth did to her, she would “dash the brains out” of her own child as “it was smiling in her fail”. However Lady Macbeth makes it absolutely clear that if he is brave enough, it is impossible to fail. These quotes show how Lady Macbeth is controlling her husband and she proves herself be the most responsible of Duncan’s death. Some people may say that three witches are the most responsible of the death of Duncan. Macbeth never considered murdering king Duncan until he saw the prophecies of the witches. If the battle against Norway ended and Macbeth and Banquo had gone home without meeting the witches, Duncan probably would have survived. When he found out that the second prophecy was true, Macbeth contemplated the third prophecy. Even by hearing
If anyone is responsible for the death of Macbeth, it is Lady Macbeth. She pressured him into killing all of the people he murdered throughout the story. Macbeth never felt comfortable with the murders he committed and his guilt showed, which lead people to suspect him of all of the killings. Additionally, Macbeth is defeated after Lady Macbeth’s death, indication he did all of his awful deeds for his wife.
She has to convince him to do it because she can’t which makes her the blame for the murders. Lady Macbeth is also the blame because she wanted
So I am asking your majesty, why would Macbeth take all the blame for it? Lady Macbeth Says ‘My hands are of your color, but I shame to wear a heart to white’. This shows the major contribution that Lady Macbeth had towards the murder of Duncan. Often Lady Macbeth insulted Macbeth with statements that question his manhood. Lady Macbeth says ‘When you durst do it, then you were a man; And to be more than what you were, you would Be so much more the man.
Lady Macbeth plans to invite king Duncan over for dinner, but really she is convincing Macbeth to murder him. She influences him to kill Duncan because he is the only one standing in the way of Macbeth becoming king. Lady Macbeth plans the killing but convinces Macbeth to do the dirty deed. Lastly, Lady Macbeth is one of the causes of Macbeth’s failure because she repeatedly questions Macbeth’s manhood until she persuades him to make a bad choice. “When you durst do it then you were a man” (1.7.53-58).
At the start of the play, Macbeth visits the witches with Banquo at the closing of the battle. The witches speak to Macbeth and Banquo and get the idea of a prophecy in Macbeth’s mind. “All hail Macbeth, hail to thee, Thane of Glamis./ All hail Macbeth, hail to thee, Thane of Cawdor./ All hail Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter” (1.3.46-48). When the witches get the prophecy in Macbeth’s mind, he believes it will come true and misunderstands the prophecy of the witches. Although the witches make Macbeth believe in the prophecy of becoming the King, Macbeth is responsible for his downfall because they do not recommend Macbeth to kill Duncan.
Lady Macbeth tried and attempted to fasten onto Macbeth’s inner feelings and attacked his level of masculinity. He is a easy person to manipulate once the future queen questioned his manliness. Macbeth tells Lady Macbeth that he cannot go through with killing King Duncan, she proceeds to tell him that he is a coward. To further convince her husband to kill Duncan is the utmost importance she said that she “would, while (her unborn child) was smiling in my face, have plucked my nipple from his boneless gums and dashed his brains out.” (Act 1, Scene 7, Lines
Lady Macbeth did not grieve Duncan’s death for long. Lady Macbeth also is believed to had killed herself over the whole ordeal showing how guilty she is. What her real reason for taking her life was that she knew what was going down and ruined the country, about to get her castle destroyed, so she killed herself before anybody else could get to her. Showing that she is ultimately
The witches played a colossal role in Macbeth’s downfall and ultimately, his death. Since the first part of the prophecy stated Macbeth as being the new Thane of Cawdor, he believed he could continue to become king as well. In knowing his prediction, Macbeth also realized that since the king was in good health, so he would have to kill the king himself. For the rest of his prophecy to come true he would have to kill the king for himself. “All hail, Macbeth that shalt be king hereafter!”
However, some may say that Lady Macbeth is the culprit to Macbeth's descent to evil. Lady Macbeth is the one who convinced Macbeth to kill king duncan instead of waiting for the power of becoming king she wanted him to take it. Also, Macbeth never would have killed all the innocent people he did if he hadn't started with duncan. After killing King duncan Macbeth became paranoid which lead to the killing of banquo, his closest friend. If lady macbeth never convinced him to kill King Duncan nobody else would have died.
They finally come to a conclusion that they should and they form a plan to kill him. After the king is killed by Macbeth he feels regret, but the person most responsible for king Duncan’s death is Macbeth.
Macbeth is responsible for his destruction because in life we make our own decisions however he was heavily influenced by the three witches and Lady Macbeth. The witches foretell Macbeth becoming king and Lady Macbeth persuades him to kill the king, which backfires on her. Macbeth and Lady Macbeth can be compared to Ahab and Jezebel in the Bible in that they both got selfish and went after things that would catch up with them and cost them their lives. Macbeth is ultimately responsible for the decisions he made but he was first influenced by the three witches visiting him telling him he would be king.
She was so paranoid over the ordeal that she eventually killed herself. Even though she died before Macbeth, she still had an influence on what he did. Eventually, it leads to his death and treason. In conclusion, Lady Macbeth is more responsible for King Duncan’s murder, and Macbeth’s treason, than Macbeth himself.
Macbeth” is a tragedy written by Shakespeare. The story is played somewhere between 1600 and was performed for King James 1.It is a tragedy about a man’s fall. It could be suggested that macbeth is responsible for the death of king Duncan. According to my point of view, Macbeth didn’t killed Duncan , banquo and macduff 's family because he wanted to be evil because he met the witches .He did everything because of ambition, jealousy , lust for power and because he was power hungry from the beginning.
Lady Macbeth was clearly the more responsible for the murder of king Duncan but overall, Macbeth’s murderous reign has made the cold-blooded character the more evil character in the play. Lady Macbeth may have been more responsible for king Duncan’s death, but she had never expected Macbeth to kill countless of other people just to keep his throne. “I dare do all that may become a man; Who dares do more is none.” - Macbeth - Act 1 Scene 7 Line 47 to Line
Macbeth did not consider becoming king until he receives his prophecy. This prophecy is given to him by the Weird Sisters. As a reader, this poses the question, “Would Macbeth have considered becoming king if it were not for the Weird Sisters?” For example, soon after seeing the three witches, Macbeth decided to kill the present King at the time, Duncan.
