There are many people in the world that experience mental problems and therefore affecting their personality. Not everyone though is as bad as Macbeth when it comes to mental deterioration. Macbeth is a very self-centered man and it leads him to change the person he once was. Although it is not seen much in the beginning of Shakespeare's play “The Tragedy of Macbeth”, Macbeth’s mental state deteriorates as the play progresses, which can be seen when he is guilty of murdering King Duncan, being taunted by the ghost of Banquo, and his speech to the witches. Macbeth begins to go insane after he murders King Duncan at the beginning of the play. Although he did it for a gain of power, he still feels very guilty. Macbeth starts saying weird things about what he heard, “Methought I heard a voice cry “Sleep no more!” to all the house. “Glamis hath murdered sleep, and therefore Cawdor Shall sleep no more. Macbeth shall sleep no more.”” It seems that Macbeth just hears things that aren’t actually there. This implies, Macbeth is undergoing a mental state from his guilt. It is clear by his actions that he is starting to become very crazy. After Macbeth hires murderers to kill Banquo, he is “greeted by” the ghost of Banquo while at a Banquet. It is not as much in the beginning, but later on it is very noticeable. Macbeth unlike others is very affected by his mental deterioration, causing him act very differently in a not so good way. It is unfortunate that he could not control himself, because in the end, all did not go well. It is very likely that the cause of Macbeth’s death was due to his mental deterioration.
