Hi! I am a Propithecus candidus commonly known as silky sifaka an extremely rare and mostly threatened species of lemur in Madagascar, believed to only have less than 250 mature individuals (IUCN Redlist, 2014). Before we were thought to be an albino of the Propithecus diadema or diademed sifaka because we are so much alike in appearance. But through laboratory researches it has been proven that we are not albinos of the diademed sifakas and so we are given a different name (Pieczenik, 2014). Although we are commonly known as silky sifaka we are also called as “Angels of the Forest” since we have this ability to leap from tree to tree as far as ten yards and also we have a silky white fur. So when someone saw us in the tree tops, they would probably say that they saw a flying angel (Hendry, 2010). We are named silky sifaka because as I said previously, we have these “long, silky, white fur, which is sometimes tinted with silver hues on top of the head, the back and limbs” and sifaka because of the shee-fak sound we make to contact others, although unlike most shifakas we also use the zzuss sound to communicate with others especially when there is a predator (Silky sifaka, 2010). “About 45% of each day is spent at rest, while 22% is spent searching for food” while the other percentage are spent on socializing and moving. Identical to other primates we are social creature and we enjoy playing and grooming. Grooming can happen individually or with others, usually with the same sex, although opposite sex grooming is not actually rare. Typically, males are more prone on travelling because they are more socially active and seek others for socialization and females are often seen resting than males. Similar to other sifakas when moving we cling vertically and usually while resting we are seen “clinging to vertical tree trunks, with knees flexed and held close to the abdomen” (Correa,
One cold fall night in 1738, while everyone was sleeping in the town, an unidentified man was roaming the streets. He stopped when he saw the house with the magic ice skates. He creeped into the house and went into the kitchen, and there there it was... the ice skates. On top of the ice skates was a colorful sign that said, “Kiz Wafleaka.”
Good Morning Vera, Thanks for inviting me to speak in your class. Other than my thesis defense, I 've never read my words out loud to a broader audience. I read somewhere that you wrote your desertion on Kateri Tekakwitha. In my memoir, I wrote about my experience seeing Kateri in Auriesville, NY at the Shrine of the North American Martyr. I looked at my mom all confused, because I had never seen an indian statue by an altar in plain view.

The second half of “The Life of Olaudah Equiano” written by himself focuses on his life as a freeman. Equiano, a tradesman traveling the world encountered new adventures, which led to spiritual transformations. Equiano endures a cultural mainstream through multiple viewpoints. He acknowledges similarities and differences between cultures, which transforms his curiosity for adventure toward the practice of converting new cultures to his beliefs as a Christian. What would one expect the identity of a man that bought his freedom out a slavery, only to take part in the practicing of slavery himself?
Courage is said to be one of the most important characteristics a person can possess. We all admire the ones that put their jobs and lives on the line. They are not afraid to go against what the human society believes in, and some put their lives on the line to protect their loved ones’ back home. Robert F Kennedy stated in Profiles of Courage, that “Courage is the virtue that President Kennedy most admired. He sought out those people who had demonstrated in some way, whether it was on the battlefield or a baseball diamond, in a speech or fighting for a cause, that they had courage, that they would stand up, that they could be counted on (Kennedy ix).
Writing in many ways is artwork — writers are able to use words and sentences in order to make big ideas as a painter is able to use his paint to illustrate big pictures and ideas; but like a picture, writing can be read and seem differently to each of the readers eyes. Works of literature such as these can be subjected to controversy from disputes of true meaning in the text. The novel Huck Finn has been challenged and criticized by adults and children for being full of racist language and bigotry. Since its publishing in 1885, the book Huck Finn has created an enormous public debate on whether or not Huck Finn should be taught in the classroom. Mark Twain, the author of Huck Finn, wrote the book to be full of racist ideas, in order for
1.0 Introduction The question of whether primates in the wild behave similarly to that in captivity is constantly pondered in the scientific community. So, I observed two primates at the San Francisco Zoo to identify their behavior while in captivity and how they differ from those in the wild. In fact, the behavior of these two primates show a correlation with captivity, something one cannot find in these species out in the wild. It is important to understand the impact captivity is having on primates to ensure that the natural balance of their lives is maintained.
Kaffir Boy Essay: Passbooks In Kaffir Boy, Mark Mathabane describes how a small stack of papers carried by people in Alexandra sustains control over their existence. These “papers” define the whole life of an African person without any type of documentary reinforcements. In Alexandra, people are forced to bear passbooks at all times to strictly limit the movements of black Africans.

“Our sense of self is influenced by our interactions with our environment” The interactions a person encounters are an essential part in the formation of identity. In Peter Skrzynecki’s poem, Feliks Skrzynecki, a linguistic barrier between the father and son is present due to persona, Peter’s lack of cultural identity. The poem examines the relationship with his father explores how he has a constantly changing identity as he encounters his surroundings. Similarly, in Postcard, the persona’s identity is altered through the interactions he has with the environment around him.

I believe this could be for multiple reasons, such as to relieve stress, cool down/warm up, or to eat/check for food. I also noticed some differences between them, like how the tamarins, being smaller than the howler monkey, seemed much more alert and were always looking up and around them. This is likely because, unlike larger howler monkeys, tamarin’s small size makes them susceptible to attacks from predators, especially large birds. Thus, being more alert helps them locate potential predators before they
