The Texas Revolution has played a massive role in Texas history. In fact, without it, Texas wouldn’t be Texas! But, why was there a Texas Revolution to start with? In this essay, we will be discussing why there was a Texas Revolution and who was there to start it. The main cause for any revolution is the want for change. This constitution promised many things. The primary thing the constitution established was that Mexico was a republic. This was a huge step for the Mexican people. Mexico was divided into states and territories. Texas became a state with Coahuila. The people were not happy with this, particularly Juan Seguin. He stated that Coahuila would dominate politics. However, nothing changed and Coahuila did infact dominate state politics. However, Santa Anna did grant the request that Immigration be legalized from the United States, which had been banned in the Law of April 6, 1830, which had upset many Texans. He also removed some customs duties, but increased them in January of 1835. So while he did employ some of the changes that Texans wanted, he failed to cease the growing dissent Texas had for Mexico. One of the slightly more minor reasons the Texas Revolution happened was because of Mexico’s policy on immigration. The Law of April 6, 1830 made it illegal for anyone from the United States to immigrate to Texas. As you could imagine, this angered the already existing American immigrants, because that meant that they could not bring relatives along so that they could move to Texas as well. The empresarios disliked the law, such as Stephen F. Austin. While Stephen F. Austin tried to encourage people to obey the law, he was concerned about the Mexican government was treating their
The very rapid growth of the colonies made the Mexican leaders very nervous and insecure. Their attempt to protect the territory by stopping immigration into Texas caused a rebellion. This continuous conflict led to revolution and independence. The Law of April 6, 1830, expressed the Mexican policy of stopping the further colonization of Texas by American settlers. The law proposed to make the empresario contracts that had not been finished yet void and prohibited settlement of immigrants in territory next to their native countries.
In 1823, Mexico passed the General Colonization Law opening Texas to colonization and presenting impresario grants to individuals hoping to help encourage settlement and economic growth in the remote Mexican land of Texas. The Mexican government, later on, adopted the Constitution of 1824 making Texas joined with Mexico as part of the larger state of Coahuila y Tejas. Texas joining as a larger state-led to disadvantages such as the political power being placed in a more populous neighboring province of Coahuila. When becoming a larger state Texans enjoyed their own representative government at the local and provincial levels, so when Texans found out that politicians in the Coahuila city of Saltillo formed a new government in August that took
The new charter was short, created with less than 6,500 words. The purpose of the constitution was to separation powers into three branches legislative, executive, and judicial. It also created a bicameral legislature, with a House of Representatives and Senate. It limited the amount of time they can serve as well. Most importantly it gave rights to all people.

Anglo-American colonization in Mexican Texas took place between 1821 and 1835. Because Spain had first opened Texas to Anglo Americans in 1820, less than one year before Mexico achieved its independence. Its traditional policy forbade foreigners in its territory, but Spain was unable to persuade its own citizens to move to remote and sparsely populated Texas. There were only three settlements in the province, small towns with outlying ranches. The missions near the latter two, once expected to be nucleus communities, because they had been or were being secularized, while those near Nacogdoches had been closed since the 1770s.
In 1845, Texas had to write another state constitution before the United States would adopt the nation into its statehood. With this new constitution, Texas guaranteed property rights for married women and set up a permanent school fund. These two new additions are still in the current constitution. However, when the United States started to abolish slavery, Texas did not want to go along with the US so they seceded from the Union. As a result of their secession, Texas wrote yet another constitution that was very similar to the Constitution of 1845.
He began gathering colonists, but died before he could begin the colony. His son, Stephen Austin resumed his father’s work. The three simple stipulations we had for colonizing were ; they were to bring no slaves (slavery is illegal) ; the settlers must swear oaths of loyalty to the Mexican Government ; they must become Roman Catholic. The little rebels decided to ignore these conditions and we, the reasonable people of Mexico decided to give them one more chance, follow the laws, or the land grant is taken away. They still didn’t want to listen, so we banned immigration to Texas, made the Americans pay property taxes, and raised tariffs on imported American goods, and they still wouldn’t obey the laws!
The Texas Constitution of 1876 is the constitution that still governs Texas today and is the 6th constitution to govern Texas since its independence from Mexico in 1836. This constitution was drafted after the end of the Reconstruction policies which had been in place since the Civil War ended. In 1873, the Democrats regained control of the state government from the Radical Republicans and immediately wanted to draft a new constitution. They wanted to replace the Constitution of 1869. In 1875, delegates met in Austin for a constitutional convention. .
