The War of 1812 began on June 18,1812 and ended December 24,1814 (Childress 5). No one wanted this war to happen, even the president said it was a silly war (Nardo 5,10). This is the story of the war and what happened in it and who was in it. The war was made because of tension that was built up, not because of a bombing or anything major (Nardo 10). Benjamin Franklin said The War of 1812 was what really got their independence. The U.S. was a small and growing country the time they only had 18 states. Almost 8 million people lived in the United States at the time mostly along the Atlantic Coast (Childress 6,7). In the War of 1812 The Star Spangled was created. The war could have been avoided, but the ship was to slow and the war started because the ship that was slow had the treaty on it. In the battle no one knew the peace treaty was signed until two weeks after it was signed. The war was also fought because James Madison said what the British did were unforgivable. (Howes 4,5,6). It was also fought because the British tried to stop American trading routes. The Americans were trying to expand their land westward. The Americans had many costly defeats over the course of the …show more content…
The British also invented an invasion plan to do one of the largest attacks on D.C, Baltimore, Maryland, Charleston, South Carolina, and Savannah, Georgia (Nardo 66). The British planned an attack on New Orleans. The British lost the attack they did on New Orleans. They also lost every single battle they did against D.C, Baltimore, Maryland, Charleston, South Carolina, and Savannah, Georgia. This boosted the United States moral which made them win a couple make battles. The war also created the Federalist Party (history.com). The treaty that was signed was named the Treaty of Ghent. It was obviously signed in Ghent. Nobody lost or gained any territory in this war which means it was pretty much pointless. The war officially ended on February 17,1815. The treaty was signed in 1814
in 1812 with president madison in office congress declared war against the british. the war began with an attack on canada, both as an effort to gain land
The war was fought for seven years before a peace treaty was signed in 1763 causing the war to end. The death toll was over 11,000 on each side in this
The Battle of New Orleans was the most celebrated and brilliant battle of the war, but it happened after the war was over. The War of 1812 was an extension of American Revolution to some degree and it led America towards independence. During the war, English gave up its maritime policies and became an ally with the United States ever since. The war caused no geographical change but peace between the United States and Britain. All the causes of the war disappeared after the war between England and France
James Madison declared this war on the British because of acts that the Americans didn’t think was fair, just like the first revolution. Prior to the war of 1812, the British were keeping forts on America's side of the Great Lakes which was disobeying the territorial laws put in place. They were also supplying American Indians with weaponry which threatened the Americans. However, the largest issue was that Britain kept on taking American ships at sea and interfering with Americans foreign affairs with Europe. Just like when Britain taxed the colonists without their representation,
War had been going on for several years now, at the time many Americans wanted to compromise with Great Britain. But, Americans did not accept the first peace offering from them. This war would take seven years to end, seven years of hard fighting. Some of the British were trying to escape Britain, they went to what is now known as America to escape the king. A group of five men started to make the treaty for the war to end.
The war of 1812 is one to remember. The war happened between the British and the Americans. This happened because the British stopped trade with the Americans due to a war between the British and the French. Another reason was because of the impressment that the British started against the American sailors. For these reasons, the war of 1812 happened.
The War of 1812 was pretty eventful. Some of the main reasons it started was because the British were capturing American sailors and making them work for them, and they wanted American ships to stop in Britain and pay a tax if they wanted to share merchandise with any other European countries. This obviously made James Madison, the president at the time, mad so then he told Congress that he wanted to declare war. At first congress said no, but eventually Madison got his war.
The first reason was, The British decided to limit American trade with other countries. The Americans wanted to expand their territory. And finally, The British Naval captains impressed anywhere between six thousand to fifteen thousand sailors. This war had many reasons for happening when it did. There were many important reasons leading up to the war.
The British came over to the colonies thinking that this war would be over in a couple months. Their young soldiers with their boosted morale were not ready for what was waiting. The Americans had nothing to lose and the British thought this would be like all of the other wars they have fought all over the war. Although the Colonialists have never fought before they were more experienced, tougher, and knew the land better. The guerilla tactics crippled the British.
The War of 1812, also called the Second War of Independence, began June 18, 1812 and ended February 18, 1815. The two year and eight month war began for a number of reasons; trade restrictions, the impressments of American merchant sailors, British support of Indian tribes against American expansion, and the possibility of America’s interest in annexing British territory in modern-day Canada. The British Empire attacked from Canada on foot and on water via Lake Champlain. These attacks were held back by the Americans However, a naval force successfully landed in the Chesapeake Bay area. This force advanced on Washington, which was the capitol of America.
The war of 1812 was a war between Britain and America and lasted for roughly 2 years. Although this war was not a major war when compared to other wars in American history, it did serve as a turning point in the emergence of the United States as a hemispheric global superpower. The war of 1812 was a war fought over problems that had arisen between the Native people and American citizens, specifically over territory. At the time, many Americans believed in Manifest Destiny, and that it was their god given right to move west, but the Indian settlements in these areas did not want to give up their homes.
The War of 1812 waged on for almost 3 years. This was the war that proved that America can stand on its own as an independent country. The two sides of this war were the United States of America and Great Britain. The reason for this war was for maritime rights of neutrals. “The belligerents seized nearly 1500 American vessels between 1803 and 1812, thus posing the problem of whether the U.S. should go to war to defend its neutral rights” (War of 1812).
Each side wanted to increase their land holdings which resulted in building tensions between the British and French in America. The war ended in 1763 and it effectively ended French
The primary cause of this war was that France and England had claimed the same territory in North America. This war is thought to be paramount because it marked a new beginning of independent thinking among between the colonies. The war ended in 1763 after a period of nine years.
Brandon King History 1301 HW 2 8 AM What were the causes and results of the War of 1812? The war of 1812 was yet another war that the United States got caught up with. There were several reasons as to what caused this war to begin. Let 's go back to the year of 1806 when France declared it to be illegal for “all neutral trade with Great Britain”
