One of the ways that we progressed was how we extended our reach to other parts of the world during both wars when we traded with most of the countries in the wars. We stayed a neutral nation in both wars till we were provoked and then started to intervene in the wars. During the beginning of WW1 America traded with both the ally powers and the central powers. This increases our economy and brings in a lot of money for the nation, which would help turn us into a global superpower later on. In WW2, We traded with mostly the Ally powers. We became one of the main suppliers during the war, we made everything from food to ammunition, to weapons. In WW2 we imposed a Trade law that got rid of most tariffs and embargoes on goods so that we could trade more and give more. The way that we were able to pull ourselves out of the depression was with the help of the government. One of the ways was with the government's intervention with the banks, the FDIC was and still is an insurance program that helps to ensure money in banks in case banks go under. Another Program was The Securities Act of 1934 which regulates the operation of stock exchanges and trading. These programs helped to increase and secure the American economy and they helped to restore trust in the stock market and the economy. In the long term, the United States had come out of the war as a rising power. In what seemed to be an easy victory for the British, the Americans not only survived through the war, but took steps forward in being recognized as a world influence. The bank of United States offered easy credit to Americans. The third one was internal improvements for roads, canals and other subsidies (Classic Senate Speeches, 2017). This would be subsidized by tariffs and sales of public lands. The improvements will bring the nation together as well as generate federal revenue. The roads and canals will help agriculture travel from one place to another.

World War II affected the U.S. homefront in many ways. World War II had ended the Great Depression and the economy was beginning to boom. Women were getting jobs to support their families and young children were also finding ways to help. Young boys went door to door collecting scrap rubber or metal. This was so it could be recycled into sheet metal for boats and rubber for tires or shoes.
The Glass-Steagall Act helped with future bank failures, it “ Created federally insured bank deposit ( $2500 per investor at first) to prevent bank failures.(Doc D)” Today we still have this and it has helped many people over the years. The New Deal also met its goal of the Securities and Exchange Commission program or SEC, this helped and still helps regulate the stock market and restrict margin buying(Doc D). The USA still has this program however it has been adapted over time to help the stock market of today. The last, but important thing the New Deal did was help ease the burden of debt and mortgage.
As shown in Student Handout 6 “Food during the War” they were told to save certain foods to preserve money due to inflation because of the recession America went through due to all the money spent to support the war effort. The inevitable results included shortages of both labor and products, leading to significant inflation in the economy. They even had to make victory gardens to help with food production during the war. As also stated in Document 5 “Economics of World War 1” they had a War Industries board to help organize and coordinate the production of goods and materials necessary for the war effort. The War Industries Board impacted the economy very little as shown later on because the United States owed more money to the other nations than those nations owed the United States.

The Great Reforms That Saved America During the early 20th century there were mountains of economic problems, one of the most impactful events, was the Great Depression.
