Maddie Krohn 3/1/23 Ah English/Julius Caesar Essay Hero is a strong word, and many characters can never fulfill the requirements of being a hero. In “The Tragedy Of Julius Caesar”, by William Shakespeare, Brutus stands as the hero. It is evident that Brutus is a hero because he did what was right for Rome and would do everything and anything for his city and the people. Brutus is considered a hero because he killed Caesar knowing it was ultimately the best action for Rome. In Act Two: Scene One, Brutus states, “And therefore think him as a serpent’s egg, Which, hatched, would as his kind grow mischievous, And kill him in the shell.” Before letting Caesar and his ambition take over, Brutus had to take action. Killing Caesar was like killing
“Brutus did not know if he would go through with the murder” “How was he to kill a man he loved? A man who had loved him like a son and may even be his own true father”. Brutus doesn’t think he will be able to kill a man who he and all of Rome loves. Caesar was more like a god than he was a man. Admittedly, there are some people who believe that Caesar was to powerful and needed to be taken out.
“And therefore think of him as a serpent’s egg— Which, hatched, would as his kind grow mischievous— and kill him in the shell (II, i, 32-34).” Brutus compares Caesar utilizing a simile to back his reasoning to kill Caesar now while he’s “in the shell” rather than to kill him when he’s hatched and dangerous. And he also uses an either/or fallacy to justify his decision saying that either Caesar will destroy
Brutus is the tragic hero of the play Julius Caesar. Brutus, just like almost every other person ever born, had flaws about him, but that does not mean that he cannot be the tragic hero of Julius Caesar. Brutus was an honorable man. Brutus was the only conspirator that killed Caesar for the good of Rome. Brutus loved his country more than he loved his closest friend.
Even though the play is called The Tragedy of Julius Caesar the tragic hero isn’t Caesar himself but Julius Brutus a diplomatic and close friend of Caesar. To add a dramatic effect to his play Shakespeare, like any other author, tweaks the historical characters his used in his play to make them fit perfectly with the dramatic structure and his own idea for this tragedy. Every Tragedy Has Its Hero Brutus was a man that possessed many positive qualities but also possessed many negatives traits too. He was a kind, intelligent, and noble person, but he was also overly trusting, easily manipulated, and not very good at getting people to follow his lead. These qualities are what makes Brutus a tragic hero. Everyone has flaws, and because of that everyone knows those flaws can lead to bad things. Brutus was a person with good intentions but also weaknesses, and these weaknesses led to his downfall.
The reasoning behind Caesar's assassination is to prevent the dangers that Caesar could present in the future. Brutus comes to the conclusion that he must compare Caesar to a serpent's egg, once hatched it becomes dangerous. So Caesar must be killed in the shell before he can become that dangerous serpent. He says this in lines 32 through 34 “and therefore treats him like a serpent's egg which hatched as his kind grew mischievous and killed him in the shell”. I believe Brutus truly justified the killing of Caesar and that it was for the good of Rome.
Brutus was manipulated into joining the conspiracy to kill Caesar. People began to pity him for being manipulated for something he was begged to do. Many people would say Caesar was the Tragic Hero because he also caused his own downfall, and he was the main character, however Caesar wasn’t untrustworthy towards his friends, Rome, and The People of Rome. Caesar was more innocent than Brutus, therefore Brutus deserves the title more.

In Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare, Brutus makes many choices that only lead to downfall and chaos. There is also evidence that Shakespeare himself saw Brutus as a hero in the ways that he writes about him.
When Brutus was talking to the conspirators Brutus was going back and forth think if he should help the conspirators kill Julius Caesar. He was going back and forth because he was thinking of the power he could have and could rule Rome. The reason behind Brutus killing Caesar was for the better of Rome. If Brutus would not have killed Caesar, Rome would have turned into a dictatorship, and in turn it would have ruined Rome and all of its people. Brutus did not kill Julius just for the power to rule Rome, he killed Julius to save Rome from Caesar’s dictatorship.

Villains are depicted with the words malicious and vile but never misconceived. In Shakespeare’s Tragedy of Julius Caesar, it is apparent that Shakespeare intended to display Brutus as a fallen hero. His integrity and will to slaughter the man whom he loved for his country verifies that Brutus was more than a heartless traitor. Brutus was just a hero who succumbed to the wrong perspective although his honor was something worth praising.

Brutus is one of the most famous characters in William Shakespeare, Julius Caesar, and history. He is also compared to the biblical Judas. He and Judas went down in history as traders to whom they were loyal. Some say he is a hero for killing a friend for someone else, others say he was a trader and deserves retribution for his actions. But with him all his ambitions after Caesar's death grew; you could say he's more of a villain than a hero.
