Examples Of Ethical Issues In Social Work

Introduction
A social worker is still first and foremost a human being and as such possesses a set of values that govern their lives up until the individual commences practice in the field of social work which has a set of professional principles of its own. These two groups of standards may sometimes collide depending on the individual and the situation. My case study is an example of such an ethical dilemma, and this paper focuses on the implications this could hold for a social worker and ends with a proposed solution.
The case in question involves a social worker with the Florida Department of Children and Families. The social worker mostly handles cases involving children who have been abused and neglected. The client is a 15-year-old boy who suffered physical abuse, ran away from numerous foster homes and later revealed to the caseworker that he was gay. The social worker then approached me as the supervisor and stated that their religious beliefs made it hard to work with the client due to his sexual orientation. The caseworker added that what would be best for the client would be to conform to his religious views.
This case rendered me quite distraught since on one side there was a colleague of mine who was staunch in their faith and whose personal values go against the task at hand.
