The changes made by the animals, specifically the pigs, in the novel "Animal Farm" by George Orwell show that "power corrupts, but absolute power corrupts absolutely.". Right when the revolution started, the pigs started learning how to read and write. As soon as they learned these skills, they became the leaders of the revolution due to them being the "cleverest animals on the farm". Two pigs, in particular, named Napoleon and Snowball, started having debates on what they should do next. Napoleon, who previously took a couple pups from their mother, trained them to be his guard dogs, which caused fear in all those who went against him. He later wiped out the competition by driving Snowball off the farm with his guard dogs. This shows the sense …show more content…
All pigs had a sense of superiority due to their enhanced skills, and since no one else had those skills, they used them to their advantage and manipulated the other animals. Every time the pigs wanted to do something that went against the rules, they just changed it and then deceived them into thinking that it had always been like that. At the end of the novel, the pigs, who first stated that "Whoever goes upon two legs is an enemy," also known as humans, became friends with the pigs. They became hypocrites because they were given too much power. They were manipulating the animals in any way they wanted because the other animals didn't know any better. They broke every rule they made, including the rule that "Whatever goes on two legs is an enemy," by standing on their two hind legs and mimicking humans. Throughout the book, the pigs' entire plan was to become the dominant power on the farm. They went against everything they stood for solely due to the power they held. The quote "All animals are created equal, but some are more equal than others" shows the real intentions of the pigs. The horse, Clover, even stated at the end of the book that she couldn't tell the difference between pigs and
Pigs and humans are two different things and look like two different things to. After all this war and power they couldn’t tell which one was which. The power that the pigs had changed their identity so much that other animals couldn’t tell the difference between human and the pigs. When you have power something about you changes, since you never really had that before, you start abusing it for the good or
They were walking on two legs and wearing clothes which they always said they wouldn’t. They gave the other animals even poorer rations then Mr. Jones did and they did not do any work to deserve it. They worked, played cards, and socialized with the humans. The humans were so impressed that the pigs could get the other animals to do exactly what they wanted.
They are unable to read and write which allows the pigs to get away with what they do. Covering up unethical new laws, squealer proclaims, "Tactics, comrades, tactics!" (…) The animals were not certain what the word meant, but Squealer spoke so persuasively, and the three dogs who happened to be with him growled so threateningly, that they accepted his explanation without further questions” (Orwell, 39). Pigs are generally known as smarter animals and use this advantage to cover up their actions, as well as, create an image of authority.
Clover asked Benjamin to read her the Sixth Commandment, and when Benjamin, as usual, said that he refused to meddle in such matters, she fetched Muriel. Muriel read the Commandment for her. It ran: "No animal shall kill any other animal WITHOUT CAUSE. " Somehow or other, the last two words had slipped out of the animals ' memory.” This helps the pigs stay in control of the animals by changing the commandment they make the animals think that no rules were broken when in fact they were.
The pigs are very greedy and selfish. As the story went on, they took advantage of those around them and destroyed anyone trying to stop them. Such as, the milk and apple incident. They told the rest of the animals that only the pigs could have them because they are the “brain workers”.
The pigs constantly lie to the animals and manipulate things so that it is as if they
Animal Farm includes several disturbing instances of the pigs taking advantage of the rest of the animals. The pig’s cruelty grew as the book went on. Over the course of the book it went from “it was noticed that the milk had disappeared.” (pg 26 para 3). To “fools!
The animals trusted the pigs so much that the pigs were able to deceive them and get them to do what they wanted. This is important because it shows how the pigs got their power. It’s important in the world because many leaders gain their power due to their education or intelligence in general. Many leaders that are
The pigs became selfish and violent, changing the animal 's view until it was almost completely different from the original. A very similar thing happened with communism, during Joseph Stalin 's rule he left a majority of the country helpless and to fend for themselves. He would sentence people to death for showing the smallest bit of resistance against his newly formed
The pigs knew they were the smartest animals on the farm and they had no shame in using it to their benefit. This is especially true
As in Animal Farm, the pigs immediately were put in power because they were more intelligent than the other animals. At first, this worked out fine. But after Snowball was chased out, the pigs became more and more corrupt. The pigs changed the commandments for themselves constantly. One original commandment was that no animal shall drink alcohol, so they would not be like the humans who were getting drunk constantly.
The pigs, who are more intelligent, tricked the animals into thinking they have a choice when in reality they do not. Even more, as the story progressed, the animals lost their voice in debates. Every Sunday, the animals held Meetings in the farmhouse to discuss the work and plans for the week.
However, throughout the novel, all the commandments are slightly altered to elevate pigs into a higher social status while still claiming everyone is equal. Moreover, the pigs seem to no longer be bothering with any education unless it is for
This is exactly what the humans did and the pigs, in effect, take over from the humans and rule in just the same oppressive manner. In this way, they destroy the original ideals of the revolution which called for complete equality for all animals and the rejection of all human contact. By the end of the novel, the pigs are in an open alliance with the humans and behave just like them, even by walking on two legs. A revolution aimed at improving the lives of the animals, with the best possible intentions, has degenerated into a nightmare. Similar to the creation and destruction of the Soviet Union, Napoleon in Animal Farm is directly connected to Joseph Stalin, while Snowball represents Leon Trotsky, and Old Major is Vladimir Lenin.
The pigs were always very prideful… bragging and taking credit for everything. They took credit for the windmills even though they did not work on them as it was mainly boxer. They praised themselves over how much "smarter" they are than the other animals. In reality, they are no better, nor smarter, than the other animals on the farm.
