Lowry high school athletics have changed my life in many ways. It has taught me discipline, respect and how to handle my success and failures. High school athletics to me have been more than just time to miss school or just a thing to do to mess around with my friends. Athletics have already enhanced my career tremendously already. The first thing high school athletics has taught me is disciple. Being a part of the Wrestling team these past 4 years has taught me more discipline imaginable. The discipline that wrestling taught me is when a coach or an elder asks you to do something, you do it. Cutting weight will teach one discipline real quick. Throughout my wrestling career I had to cut weight every year, which is by no means an easy thing to do. The discipline it takes is outstanding to me that I am actually able to do it. Without that discipline how could I expect to have any discipline throughout the rest of my life? Discipline is taught through every sport it just takes someone special to completely follow through on it. …show more content…
Respect, respect, respect for your coaches, for your fellow team mates and for your opponent. You lead by example, you can’t ask for respect if you don’t give it. My family has always been hard on me about giving respect, no matter who it is to. Without the right amount of respect given, not much can be done. I have been a witness to it every year, a mister know it all thinks he is smart than the coaches and likes to run his mouth showing no respect and effortlessly paying attention. Coaches are volunteers, they do not have to be there, they chose to and they are only there to help us. Lack of respect is deadly in learning a sport and trying to get better. I have learned to respect nearly everyone on and off the field or
Dr. Daniel Gould, director of the Institute for the Study of Youth Sports, in his essay “Are High School Sports Good For Kids?” argues that problems with high school sports are beginning to outway the benefits.. He supports his claim by providing evidence of how sports are beneficial to kids, explaining the problems within sports, and extending the importance of what creates a positive response from sports. Gould’s purpose is to inform coaches, principals, and parents about what makes sports beneficial and how to prevent the problems in order to allow kids to learn and become better citizens. He establishes an informative tone for coaches, principals, and parents.
We are a Sports Connect Organization–the qualities of a great sports coach help athletes learn, experience, enjoy their job, adapt, have sportsmanship, and work together. A coach’s experience is essential on a multitude of levels. They will be a role model for your athlete for many years. Their teaching style needs to nurture and foster their experience; to formulate their potential that can be unlocked and evolved later in life. Learning new skills is essential, but the takeaway needs to optimize and integrate the athlete’s behavior, motivation, life, etc.

How do you make a kid a good baseball player? According to Mike Matheny who wrote “The Letter That Went Viral”, it is not hitting home runs, or being the fastest baserunner, it is about being a good sport to one another. Hustlin and not losing focus are qualities of good sportsmanship. In this inspirational essay, we see a coach shifting the focus on how it is good to have a lot of sportsmanship. I agree with Mike Matheny that if you want to be a good baseball player, you need good sportsmanship.
In this community lately, there has been discussion lately on sports possibly being removed from the high schools. Although, they get the most recognition that does not mean that just because one little thing it gets removed and completely forgotten about. In fact, so many people do high school sports in the text “Are High School Sports Good For Kids” it explicitly states “Here in Michigan almost 300,000 young people take part in high school sports every year.” This scene particularly shows that many youth athletes participate in high school sports in only one state alone.
For most of my childhood, the sport of baseball was the one activity I loved above anything else. Nothing could compare to the exhilarating freedom and satisfaction of bolting full speed around the bases, determined to steal 2nd, beating the "Throwdown" by a fraction of a second. The massive dust cloud kicked up by my cleats and the thunderous boom of the umpire shouting, "Safe!" made me feel empowered. It was in moments like those, when I was in control of my own fate, choosing whether to stay or to run, whether to play it safe or to risk failure, that I learned one of the most important lessons of my life.
In the athletic world, there are many different types of coaches. There are the coaches who think they know everything, the coaches who know what they are doing but do not care, and the coaches that actually care and want to succeed. First, the coaches that think they know what they are doing. These types of coaches act like they know the game, but they really do not.
“I learned about life with a ball at my feet.” What do you first think about when you hear the word soccer? Do you think about the coolest goal ever made? Or maybe the best jukes you’ve ever seen? Well there’s more to soccer than scoring goals and juking people.
As a little boy I had big dreams of playing football. When I was walking in the halls of the intermediate and middle school and saw the high school football players with their jerseys on, they were like super stars. I looked up to them because I wanted to be like them. The high school football players were popular, they were happy, and they were important to the school. Going to the football games on Friday nights was the highlight of my week.
One of the most fundamental virtues that kids learn in contact sports is respect because mutual respect the basis of these sports. People who practice these sports such as rugby, football, hockey, boxing, martial arts, etc. truly learn to respect, not only their teammates but also their opponents. In these sports respect is earned in the way participants behave and perform because those who are involved acknowledge the hustle and know that it is not luck or "the referees" the true reason why they succeed. The real reason is what is behind.
In life, people will experience different things that will have an influence on who they are as well as who they will become. These experiences are in direct correlation to future success. Some believe that most of these experiences are outside of one 's own control, such as where he was born, where he goes to school or even a financial situation. While this makes sense, there is one thing that is within one 's control that will greatly increase the likelihood of one 's achievements. Playing sports in high school has a positive impact on future success.
I have learned a great many things from participating in High school Basketball. It has changed my entire outlook on and attitude toward life. In the eighth grade, I was shy, had low self-esteem and turned away from seemingly impossible challenges. Playing Basketball altered all of these qualities.
Kids need competition, but not to much. When more pressure is put on from coaches during a game it makes the game two times more competitive. It is really tough for coaches to be able to tell if the pressure it is affecting the kids but they have to be cautious because their words mean a lot. During game action coaches have the most influence on
A coach’s biggest job is to teach kids to play team sports. As a Head coach you never ever want to lose the trust and faith of your players. If the players don’t believe you will lead them to victory then they won’t want to play for you. Another huge responsibility as a head coach is teaching your players to do
Endurance, motivation and dedication were a few words that made up the foundation of my career as a student athlete. These words arose in any and every situation possible. From the classroom to the football field, these three words haunted and shaped me in to the person I am today. Anything and everything I participated had these three concpets behind it, perfection was the goal in every situation of my life. I had always lifted weights growing up, it was who I was as an individual.
