Throughout high school I have participated in many different activities and programs, but one of the opportunities I was given I will carry with me forever. As a junior at River Valley I participated in the Marion General Teen Volunteer Program. After interviewing and being placed in the physical therapy unit I took the opportunity to branch out into other areas of the hospital. I soon made my way to the labor and delivery floor where everyday a miracle happened. My duties while volunteering included assisting the nurses during hearing checks, changing diapers, and rocking crying infants in special care. During this time I realized that nursing is what I was meant to do. I found my passion as a teen volunteer. During high school I have participated in many different activities and clubs. As a member of River Valley’s NHS chapter I serve as chair of the blood drive committee. I coordinate the blood drives throughout the school year along with the co-chairs and the red cross. I schedule the appointments, check those in that are donating and relay the importance of donating blood to the student body. Also, being a member of River Valley’s FFA chapter I participate in activities such as Food for America, Adopt-a-Family, and Community Breakfast. FFA has been a very important part to my high school experience because it has taught me the …show more content…
I plan on obtaining my masters in nursing and becoming a neonatal nurse. Without taking science courses at River Valley, becoming a nurse would have never crossed my mind. As a sophomore I took biology where I learned about topics such as genetics and how different genes can affect an offspring. In chemistry I became fascinated with the idea of mixing different elements and chemicals to make something brand new and in anatomy I was taught about the skeletal, muscle and nervous systems which we were able to better see through
I have volunteered at the Catholic Worker House preparing and serving food. I have also served food at the Salvation Army. I have volunteered at the Cedar Valley United Way, helping them with stuff around the office. Outside of school service I help my grandma, who has had a stroke. I'm always there to help her clean and get around the house.
I volunteered at Lenoir Memorial Hospital the Summer of 2015. I received about 58 hours of community service. Ms. Ann Durusky is the Director of Volunteer Services at the hospital. Volunteering at the hospital entails admitting and discharging patients from their rooms, escorting patients or guests to where they need to be, delivering emails, flowers, and gift baskets. At first, I was sent with the lead volunteer of our group and a partner, until I was able to remember what procedures to take in different situations.
As a member of Key Club I was a strong contributor to the volunteer opportunities that arose, (i.e. Beach Cleanup, Trick or Treat for UNICEF). In my third year of high school, I became the secretary of the School Improvement Committee. As the secretary, I was responsible for making sure all of the meetings ran smoothly and were recorded for future use. Along with these club activities, I have volunteered for many of the teachers and staff in the school. Such activities included filing, running papers to classrooms, and helping out during school activities.
Volunteering at a busy food bank transformed me in a way I couldn’t even imagine. Being up front and center among people taught me confidence I had never experienced. While performing my countless roles (providing prayer for clients, setting up food
Serving as a Peer Health Educator and working in various patient care roles allowed me to further immerse myself in health care. Taking on a multitude of volunteer opportunities in my youth and continuing to today has furthered my passion to become a care giver and helped me develop my leadership, communication, and team
As a State FFA Officer, we are the greatest representatives of Agriculture in not only our state, but the nation as well. As agriculturalists, farmers, businessmen and women, government officials, family and friends follow us throughout our year, they will be highly influenced by our example. This year as a State Officer I have a great hope to advocate for agriculture. It is essential to help promote the image of agriculture in a positive way, sharing great stories, ideas and future plans for this industry. The objective as a State FFA Officer is to inspire the people we meet by showing them the opportunities found in agriculture.
Personal Statement- Stephanie Olivera Growing up I was always the odd one in our family. When my parents started having children, they did not plan us very well. I am 5 years younger than my older brother, 4 years younger than my sister and 8 years older than my younger brother. I was the child that did not have anyone to "play" with, and I grew accustomed to being alone.
I am an active member in a wide variety of activities. I am very involved in 4-H and FFA. Through these clubs, I have participated in many community service projects. I work hard in the classroom and I’m very goal driven. I have a 3.14 GPA, and I strive to do better each and every day.
I was not born into the world to do everything, but I was born into the world with great intentions; intentions to make a difference, to be an outstanding leader, ambassador, and advocate to serve and give back to the society. Ever since I have known myself, I have always wanted to become a nurse. A hardship that has made me stronger is, after my first semester in the pre-nursing
Many people come across roadblocks through their journey of life. I know I've had my fair share of them. The biggest bump in my academic life was changing it completely upside down. Growing up african American or with any skin that holds the slightest of pigment is not easy, but that's obvious due to our nation's past. Racism and stereotypeing has always been there.
One of the FFA activities that I participated in is the Troy FFA Greenhand initiation. This activity gave us an opportunity to step out of our comfort zone and meet new people. One of the stations we went through gave us an opportunity
Volunteering at the hospital helped me to further explore my options and confirm that neonatology is the field of my choice. It was confirmed the day I encountered my first premature baby. I was volunteering at the hospital and I had walked past the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Watching the babies lie helplessly, and in need of some kind of technology to keep them alive, made me both curious and emotional.
Volunteering at McKenna Farms Therapy Services I was able to observe pediatric occupational therapy sessions. Not only did I get to observe Occupational Therapy sessions, but I observed Hippotherapy sessions too. What I found so unique about McKenna Farms is that they had Speech Therapist, Physical Therapist, and Occupational Therapist all together at one clinic. This allowed me to witness how the different types of therapy fit together and how the therapist would collaborate to find the best way to treat the children. My favorite part was finding ways to communicate with the kids.
I am passionate in nursing and helping the community is something I love. I do partake in a lot of extracurricular activities. Currently, I volunteer at the Hartford Hospital as a Patient Safety Associate Assistant, and this gives me the opportunity to community with patients face-to-face. Putting a smile on anyone’s face is something I would love to do every
As community service chairperson I have assisted, donated, volunteered, and facilitated many programs and service projects. Some of the events or projects that I have contributed to make the world we live on better are feeding the homeless, A Daughter’s Heart honoring heart survivors, a community Easter egg hunt, clothing drives, Shriner’s national diabetes initiative weekend, and many others. A Daughter’s Heart consisted of a program that honored stroke, heart attack, and heart disease survivors in the month of February. The program also educated individuals of the symptoms and how to care for heart survivors. Being a student and a great leader in our world at the student time is not an easy task but it has taught be patience, dedication, and hard work.
