Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone by J.k Rowling, portrays many themes during Harry’s years at Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry. For example, the power of choice and its impact on our wellbeing, on our lives, and on the lives of others. The vital importance of friendship, and family. Family is a very important theme throughout Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Harry only wishes for the family he never knew – his parents – and hates the one he's stuck with – the Dursleys. Blood ties can only take you so far, and blood ties don’t necessarily mean that love will be given. The Dursleys had fed, clothed, and barely sheltered Harry , but they didn’t love him, and they certainly didn’t treat him as if he belonged. Instead, …show more content…
Harry’s life isn’t very bright in the beginning of our story; he is forced to sleep in a cupboard under the stairs, never gets anything for his birthdays (except a pair of Uncle Vernon’s old socks, and coat hangers ) and he is constantly being bullied by his 12 year old nephew, Dudley. One fine morning, Harry starts receiving strange letters addressed to his cupboard and is rescued by a giant man. Harry discovers his parents hadn’t died in a car crash (as his uncle and aunt always told him), but that they were wizards, and that he’s one as well. Though that’s not all; Harry isn’t just an ordinary wizard, but a famous one. The reason behind this is when, At the time of Harrys’ birth, a dark wizard roamed the country, and this wizard so happened to be at his prime (strongest). Shortly after Harrys’ birth, a prophecy was formed, the prophecy stated, "The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches... born to those who have thrice defied him, born as the seventh month dies... and the Dark Lord will mark him as his equal, but he will have power the Dark Lord knows not... and either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives... the one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord will be born as the seventh …show more content…
It turns out that Voldemort shares the body of Professor Quirrell, as that is the only way he can live in his weakened state. Professor Quirrell, however, doesn’t get past all barriers. He can’t get over the last one, the Mirror of the Erised, placed by Dumbledore himself. The mirror shows you what you most desire. Quirrell, of course, most desires the stone, but the mirror had been bewitched in a way that only someone who doesn’t want the Stone for him/herself, neither for the powers it possesses, will be shown where the stone is. Quirrell with the intention of giving the stone to Voldemort to resurrect him, cannot know where the stone is, but Harry does meet this need of the mirror and finds the stone in his pocket when he looks into the mirror. In the next moments Harry and Quirrell are fighting for possession of the stone. Just when Harry can’t bear the searing pain from his scar any longer because of contact with Voldemort, he blacks out, Professor Dumbledore comes to help and, in the end, Harry once again is able to overcome the Dark Wizard and keep the world safe from his
The Harry Potter series is a series of seven books that tell the story of Harry Potter, and his friends, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger. Together
Dumbledore’s overt reasoning for keeping Harry unaware and far from the magical world is the ramification of the fact that, “every child in our world will know his name” (1:1, 15), as Prof. McGonagall declares when she finds out where Harry will reside, aware of how miserable a life he will lead there. Dumbledore contends that, “it would be enough to turn any boy’s head. Famous before he can walk and talk” (1:1, 16). Despite the validity of this assertion, Dumbledore’s guiding hand conditions Harry for his role of vanquisher of Voldemort, by obscuring the truth from
Because people didn’t want to talk with Harry when he was “the Heir of Slytherin”, they put barriers between them and Harry, not caring that there could possibly be someone else who is the real Heir of Slytherin. They also judged him for his unique ability, and only used it as a way to try and solidify their belief. This, however, is only natural human behavior, as unreal as Harry Potter is. Humans do tend to judge others a lot, and often if they see something in the person that they don’t like, they cause them to feel bad, or stay away from that person. That’s why we as humans put barriers between people
Ostry argued that Harry’s ordinary qualities means that being a hero is left to chance. Natov argues that Harry’s ordinary qualities make him real, which in turn, makes him relatable. If people can relate to the hero in the story it can give them hope that they can also make a difference. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets has many moments people can relate to. Everyone can remember a time when they had been yelled at for a wrongdoing, and Ron lives through the embarrassment of receiving a Howler containing the furious voice of his mother.
With the second year of school on the horizon, Harry Potter and friends are about to begin on a journey they never saw coming. The reader of this novel will be able to tell right off that teamwork is the key to everything. In the book Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets J.K. Rowling tries to tell the reader that without teamwork you will be doomed to failure. Being a well educated writer J.K. Rowling immediately gives a hint at the moral by casting the reader into a situation where Harry Potter is locked in his room by is Aunt and Uncle and forbidden to leave. In result of the close friendship Harry and Ron have built, Ron expects trouble when Harry did not meet him.
The results of evidence found for epic quest, Harry has to try and get to the Sorcerer’s stone, before Snape and or Voldemort get to it. This was proven by his characteristics shown, as an archetypal
When he was one year old, the most evil wizard for hundreds and hundreds of years attempted to kill him. Lord Voldemort killed Harry’s parents, and then he tried to kill Harry. The villain tried to curse Harry, but for some mysterious reason the curse didn’t work on Harry. So he’s left with this lightning bolt shaped scar on his forehead and the curse rebounded upon the evil wizard, who has been in hiding ever
Throughout the Harry Potter series, storylines and plots changed throughout the books, but one thing remained consistent- the personalities of the characters. Reader could always rely on Harry to save the day, Ron to be his sidekick, Mrs. Weasley to be a mother to all, and Draco Malfoy to be a bully. This is because the characters each had their own archetype, or pattern of behavior throughout the series. This was shown specifically in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. The book followed Harry’s fourth year at Hogwarts.
The Thematic Analysis of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is the second one of this series of novels. This time Harry still encountered the menace of Voldemort. Word came that the legendary chamber of secrets would be opened by the heir of the Slytherin family. Worse still, Harry was suspected because of his grasp of Parseltongue. Hogwarts was confronted with the crisis of closedown.
Harry always puts his friends first, and in this book one of the people who are put in danger is his close friend Hermione, and in the end his best friend’s sister is abducted. The book’s theme can be compared to many other books, for example The Hunger Games. Katniss, the main character in that book, volunteers to be a part of a dangerous game so that she can protect her little sister. But the book is also about character development and being a good person.
In Harry Potter and the sorcerer 's stone, Harry goes through several steps in order to become a hero. The first being, the ordinary world. In the beginning of both the movie and the book Harry lives a normal life, with the exception of the treatment from his awful aunt and uncle. Many scenes in the movie show that Harry is meant to do and be more, but for now, his journey must begin in an ordinary world. His next step is the call to adventure.
He and Harry struggle to interact civilly with one another, hence their different backgrounds. In the story, Dr. Ganderbai discovered that there is was no snake sleeping on Harry in the first place. Ganderbai inquires Harry and he becomes
The Harry Potter series have been an interesting series for me ever since I have enrolled in Professor Fox’s class. I personally have not read any of the Harry Potter series during my childhood, but once I have enrolled in Professor Fox’s class I have recently just finished Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Throughout my readings of these two books I have had many observations on certain aspects of the story that I would not have noticed when I was younger. These three aspects that I can’t imagine as a child noticing is how the Dursleys abused Harry, the stance on gender, and prejudgement based on appearance.
In the attack, Harry’s parents were killed and his very strict non-magical Aunt and Uncle took him in. Harry is a brave and selfless friend, who would do anything to help his two best friends Ron and Hermione. Ronald Weasley is the sixth born out of his seven siblings. He grew up with magic in a large but extremely kind
