Focus 2 Assignment – Reflection Upon completing the Focus 2 career assessment program, I am quite impressed at the quality of information it presents. It allowed me to not only look at careers that would fit my personality, but also those that take into consideration the fields I am already interested in. Also, as with any form of self-assessment, there were strengths and weaknesses that I did not expect based on how I feel I live my life currently. Beginning chronologically, the program had me complete two subjective, current measures of my professional career. Specifically, the Career Planning Readiness results were a bit embarrassing, given I have not done much to investigate the career I foresee as much as I should. I have concluded that …show more content…
I struggled to determine if the tasks presented only sounded intriguing, or if they were ones that I could see myself doing; it made me want to be able to try and do some of the tasks to see how interested I would actually be. Also, what I came across often were situations that I was sure I would be able to do, but not as a job multiple times a week. I found a range of things interesting, primarily research, and treating injured or ill people, only after going through this assessment a few times to closely consider what engages me. My results were, in order of strength: Investigative, Social, and Artistic. While the investigative and artistic made sense, I was surprised by social, specifically the characteristic of ‘highly verbal’, as I tend not to be. However, the social category is also called ‘The Helpers’, which I can associate with. The juxtaposition of the Investigative category’s ‘prefer to work independently with minimum supervision’ and the Social’s ‘prefer to work with others’ was ironic, but, oddly enough, I notice myself shifting between those two ends …show more content…
Rather than tying me to one side, like independent or social, it incorporated both in an ordinary way, which was a relief to find. The summary suggested fields such as teaching, counseling, psychology, religion, health, and some arts. Fortunately, health was included, which I am interested in, so I decided to investigate their informational page on physical therapy to compare. I was pleased to find among a long list of skills, all three of mine were included, as well as two of my values. Comparing strengths of my interests to those of a PT with its interest score graph turned out to be very similar except for the ‘realistic’ category, which I attribute to being hands-on. While I tend to not be in general, I am when it comes to physical activity and wellness
The three careers I chose to examine were IT Security Administrator, Forensics Investigator, and Obstetrician Gynecologist. I chose these careers because I discovered that the employment rates for these jobs are expected to grow at a faster than average 37% from 2012-2022. This is because data security threats are growing and with more digital technology rising, more organizations have become victims of cyber crimes. The other career is what I want to be. Internet Security Administrators, also known as computer security specialists, or Internet security specialists, protect computer systems against attack.

The TypeFocus assignment allowed me to see what occupations would or should interest me, and the funny thing about it is; it 's really close to my actual occupation. At this time I am 40 years old and back in school. Graduating from College will help me further my career, and will open opportunities for advancement, within the company I currently work for. My current position is in an office setting, working with billing, arranging fuel transportation, and leading coworkers throughout our office with their daily task, and also training new employees. I am perusing a degree in Business Management which will support my role in training and leading.
Most assuring to me in my report was seeing mathematics as my highest interest and investigative as my predominant theme, as I feel that I am a strong student in math and a highly curious individual who likes to seek out facts. I was a bit unsatisfied with some of the other results. However, Miss Mindy told me to just use these assessment reports as a guide, as I am ultimately in control of what career path I decide to

I have always wanted to be a surgeon since I was a kid. Doctors were treated like gods in my home country, Ethiopia. I was a shy little boy who dreamt big in my neighborhood and people would make fun of my goal due to the fact that there were no doctors in our neighborhood. They believed that I was not smart and strong enough to be a doctor. Besides my mother and aunt, nobody knew what I was capable of.

In my opinion I display characteristics of the Enterprising, Conventional, and Social Occupational Themes. I am lead to this opinion by agreement with the descriptions of both Enterprising and Conventional themes. The Strong Interest Inventory Assessment I completed stated Enterprising theme potential skills as “verbal ability, ability to motivate and direct others.” I have been able to motivate and direct others through management, volunteer work, coaching, and many other activities in my life. I enjoy being able to envision, direct, and see an idea or project come together.
I strongly value my health and believe that health is our greatest form of wealth. When one lives a healthy lifestyle, it means more opportunities to explore the world, build families, achieving anything the heart desires and conquering personal goals. The behavior change philosophy fits my personal philosophy of health education the most because it involves goal setting, behavioral contracts and self-monitoring to help foster the modification of an unhealthy habit. The behavior change philosophy is very important because change is a process, not an event. Self-efficacy and motivation are key factors in successful behavior changes.
Annotated Bibliography Tashina Stoffel, Personal Interview, 3 November 2015 I prepared for my interview by researching questions that would really be essential to my essay. I chose questions that would be easy for her to answer and questions that could be incorporated into my essay. I also asked questions that would be fun for her to answer and that could help influence my decision on the career. I used the answers to the questions to introduce the career.

After seeing the strong interest inventory report, I am not surprised by my results. It was pretty much what I had expected. Among the six general occupational themes, I learned that the three I scored the highest in were conventional (C), social (S), and enterprising (E). I scored highest in the conventional theme because it is the one that most accurately reflects my work personality. As a matter of fact, I am an organized person.
My five activity choices fall in the following categories of leisure: performing arts: music, visual arts, games: passive, sports, and nature and outdoor. The activity that appealed to me from the performing arts: music category is classical instruments. I love listening to classical music, specifically the violin and piano. I would love to learn how to play the violin. My dad bought me a violin roughly 4 years ago, but I haven’t had the time to learn how to play.
Personal developmental planning (PDP), is all about creating a long-term goal in one’s career, and thinking about how to achieve it. However, a PDP is a structured process that reflects on current learning and performance, which is then developed into a plan for future personal, educational, and career development. By undertaking PDP, it is natural to consider strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Thus, this is to enable one to create a plan that identifies how to best meet his/her developmental needs through planned formal and informal activities.
