Old Hamlet is the king of Denmark, his brother Claudius was jealous . He wanted to be the king and he wanted Gertrude which is Old Hamlet’s wife. The king went into Garden to rest and Claudius poured poison in his ear.
He deems it acceptable to spy on and spread lies about his son, reasoning "Your bait of falsehood takes this carp of truth: and thus do we of wisdom and of reach, with windlasses and with assays of bias, by indirections find directions out". He also doesn 't see anything wrong with using his daughter to gain information about Hamlet, with his plan "At such a time I 'll loose my daughter to him. Be you and I behind an arras then, mark the encounter". Finally, he suggests "Let his Queen-mother all alone entreat him to show his grief. Let her be round with him
His father is dead and his uncle marries his mother. Then, he finds out that his uncle murdered his father for the crown. Many aspects of Shakespeare’s characterization of Hamlet in the play, Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, point toward the idea of moral ambiguity. Not all people are purely evil or purely good, especially in Hamlet. Every character in the play is responsible for some sort of wrongdoing, but each character is a good person, excluding Claudius, manipulated by other characters with or without the character’s own knowledge.
In William Shakespeare’s, “The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark”, a young prince named Hamlet is depressed and misguided. His father, the King has died and his mother Gertrude has already remarried his uncle Claudius. Hamlet is absolutely torn until his father’s ghost visits the castle and entreats Hamlet to avenge his death and kill his uncle King Claudius. Hamlet begins to test Claudius with plays and when Claudius finds out, all he has by his side is his councilor Polonius. Polonius tries to entrap Hamlet in every way possible, even by using his daughter Ophelia.
This arises Hamlet’s urge to kill his uncle, due to the fact that not only did he kill his father but also married his mother. Qualities that I strongly believe would fit Gertrude are caring, gullible, and naive. Her actions and decisions she makes in the play have made some significance. Although Gertrude does not appear as frequently as other characters in the play, she does play a significant part.
Hamlet is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare during the years 1599 to 1601. In the play, Hamlet, grieving the death of his father and upset at his mother 's hasty marriage to his uncle Claudius, sees the ghost of his father accusing Claudius of poisoning him. Hamlet and Claudius become suspicious of each other. In the end, Claudius arranged a duel in which he poisoned the sword belonging to Hamlet’s opponent to ensure Hamlet’s death. In the duel, both men were stabbed with the poisoned sword.
Act 4: Now that Hamlet has accidentally murdered polonius he is even more distraught than before. He is unaware of who he is and what he is capable of doing. This state of mind leads Hamlet to hide the body in an attempt to make the problem disappear; it is his way of avoiding the issue at hand. Claudius has caught wind of the murder and after the play Hamlet produced he is scared that in Hamlet's’ delirious state his death will be next. Claudius plans for Hamlet to leave and ultimately die when he is away in England.
He is the Prince of Denmark and is next in line for the thrown. After his father’s death, his uncle sweeps the throne with his ambition and left Hamlet deserted. With his father being murdered, his mother quickly giving her affections to Claudius, and Claudius stealing Hamlet’s crown, Hamlet feels that he cannot trust anyone in his family anymore. This forces Hamlet to be depressed and it establishes a mental conflict between himself and his family members. Also, Hamlet feels and shows affection for Ophelia.
Claudius killed Hamlet’s father in order to wear the crown and gain the power of the title, “King”. Not only did Claudius kill King Hamlet, but he also married Hamlet’s mother only a month after he did so. Claudius states “With mirth in funeral, and with dirge in marriage, In equal scale weighing delight and dole, Taken to wife. ”(1.2.12-4) Claudius uses this deceit of Hamlet to receive sympathy off the sudden death of his brother, and conversely into the steadfast “happy” marriage of the new king and queen.
This made Hamlet, confused and depressed without proper answers. Throughout the play, Hamlet was approached with news from his father’s ghost, that he was murdered by Claudius. Hamlet was instructed to seek revenge, as the play was slowly progressed, Claudius became suspicious to Hamlet’s current madness. Claudius instructed multiple people to spy on Hamlet, one in particular person was Polonius. Polonius was instructed to revel the reasoning for Hamlet’s madness, the betrayal from others made hamlet act selfish for his own wants.

Gertrude can be seen as an accomplice to a dastardly plan that set off a chain of events that would lead to the tragedies of “Hamlet”. There are countless reasons of why the queen should be considered to be sinister. Throughout the play, various questions arise that defy her role as a leading character in society. In Shakespeare’s “hamlet”, while other characters in the play attempt to solve their own personal problems, Gertrude and her inactions worsened the situations that would lead to an even greater tragedy that not even Hamlet is capable of escaping from. Whenever it came to the mourning of King Hamlet’s death, or even a simple remembrance of him, gertrude would always dismiss the current situation and try to change the topic.
