Zeus is fond of the humans. Zeus is fond of the humans an example of this is during the Titan and Roman war zeus didn’t pick sides. Zeus had a lot of affairs with different women, and this had made Hera incredibly mad so she would take revenge on the women and their children. One example of this would be with Hercules. Zeus had an affair with a woman named Alcmene. How he accomplished this was by disguising himself as Alcmene’s husband and had made love to her and impregnated her with Hercules. Hera found out and was enraged.
So now at last, you gods, you train your spite on me for keeping a mortal man beside me.” (Homer 81) In this quote, Calypso brings up the fact that gods can get away with having mortal lovers but once a goddess has a mortal lover, other gods intervene and the goddess and mortal aren’t able to be together. Zeus is an example of how male gods could take mortal women as lovers. In greek culture, it is clear that a god named Zeus, the god of the sky has authority over the skies no matter the place on Earth. In The Odyssey, Zeus creates obstacles such as storms, rain, and lightning that mostly results in the loss of Odysseus’s men. The storms created by Zeus often have a negative connotation and are made for a certain reason. This also exemplifies that the Greeks have many different gods for numerous roles in their culture. Once Odysseus leaves the island of Thrinacia, he describes, “With crack on crack of thunder, Zeus let fly a bolt against the ship, a direct hit.”

Zeus is central to the plot and makes conscious decisions about main events in the Iliad. Unlike the previous two divines discussed, Athena and Apollo who essentially choose sides to meddle with, Zeus influence both the Greeks and the Trojans. He has a more neutral stance in the plot and is the dispenser of good and evil. This neutrality is probably because he does not want to see Troy disperse and destroyed by neither the Trojans or Greeks, but at times it is seen that he favours the Trojans more than the Greeks. Further, Zeus has control over the other gods and goddesses by negotiating, planning, and making judgment calls relative to whether or not the gods should intervene and when.
