The Goodnight Scholarship at North Carolina State University is an opportunity like no other. Going beyond providing the financial means for an outstanding STEM education from one of the top universities in North Carolina, the scholarship also provides recipients with valuable experiences that develop their personal, academic, and professional futures. If selected as a member of the Goodnight Scholars Class of 2027, I would be elated by the honor of participating in the program. I am excited about the prospect of being part of a community full of support, engaging in extensive professional and personal development, and partaking in service, travel, and culturally enriching opportunities. Goodnight’s countless developmental programs will equip me with the guidance and backing I need to cultivate outstanding leadership, social, service, and professional skills. If selected as a Goodnight Scholar, I am excited to interact with guest speakers and professionals in STEM and partake in a co-op to better prepare myself for my future career. Though I possess some of the skills needed to be successful in an academic or professional environment, participation in the Goodnight program will refine and add new skills to my preexisting …show more content…
Fortunately, I have been able to participate in STEM enrichment programs outside of my community such as NCSU’s Caldwell Fellows SATELLITE Camp, PARI Summer Space Camp Connect, and Appalachian Regional Commission-Oak Ridge Laboratory STEM Academy. These experiences were pivotal in the development of my passion for the preservation of the environment, ultimately leading me to pursue a career in a related field. Recognizing the need for more exposure to STEM within my community, I hope that with the knowledge, skill, and resources I gain from receiving the Goodnight Scholarship and education from NC State University, I can provide my community a gateway into gaining more knowledge about STEM and what it has to offer. I hope that I can use my experience to be a motivator for students throughout my community, supporting them to participate in STEM opportunities through
The chapter expanded the Scholarship position to efficiently promote scholastic achievement. We implemented policies like mandatory study hours with our scholarship, one on one meetings with our academic advisor, weekly log-in hours on a google drive sheet for Brothers to document
At the university, I see myself pioneering in new frontiers of research, through the Beckman Scholars Program, while involving myself in community outreach programs, as I have done locally in my city's Human Relations Commission, by playing an active role in the Woodlawn Children's Promise Community. Located in a vibrant city with a multitude of resources, the University of Chicago is the ideal gateway for me to continue making an impact in society and pursuing scientific research opportunities.
After graduating from MHS, the next challenge in my mission to ascend from my circumstances was to become the best student at The Pennsylvania State University (Penn State). With consideration of my mother not graduating high school, it was imperative and self- driving that I reward her sacrifices by excelling in my academic career. Eager to outperform, consequently, I earned the Smeal Merit Diversity Scholarship for three consecutive years (Freshmen-Junior) at Penn State. This prestigious scholarship is only awarded to the top five minority business students at Penn State. In addition to my academic successes, I became very active on campus and served as a leader at the top of four different campus-organizations.
Though I have had many achievements and disappointments, one thing that I have always been proud of is my ardor for everything that I do. The Governor’s School for Science and Math offers a rigorous path to pursue, but it is the one that I have dedicated myself to for many years. GSSM opens up a myriad of new doors for me; it will provide me with opportunities some people would never even dream of. My lively personality will fit in perfectly with GSSM’s positive environment and, in spite of the necessary sacrifices, the reward far outweighs the cost. My dynamic personality will contribute to the society of The Governor’s School in various ways.
However, this issue does not deter me in any way; in fact, it serves as quite the catalyst. My passion for engineering inspires me to promote this field. Through my actions in high school, I have encouraged many young women to explore careers in STEM. Through my mentoring of fourth grade girls, I excite them to pursue their interests in math and science.
The future of the Earth is dependent upon science and mathematics development, whether it’s traveling millions of miles away to other planets, creating microscopic circuitry to control military technology, or figuring out just why the sky is blue and the sun is yellow. STEM education, therefore, is the most important frontier to pursue for the evolution of mankind. Not only do the STEM fields need to be nurtured and funded by society, but STEM fields of research and work need to be emphasized at a young age and encouraged for women and people of color. As the world becomes increasingly dependent upon advances in the STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) fields of work, less and less funding and societal support is
In 10 years, I see myself living on the west coast working as an electrical engineer storage at a utility company and serving as an advocate for women in STEM. For the next ten years, I will strive to continue formal education, expand my knowledge through experiential learning, and make an impact on children exploring the STEM field. In the next one to three years, I will have become a Student Senator of PVCC, complete the beta-testing stages of my Black Americans Outdoors initiative, and earned my Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (Electric Power and Energy Systems) from Arizona State University (ASU). I’m eager to hear about the different experiences of my peers and to foster a culture of empowerment and determination.
By being a part of the legacy of Baird Scholars, I could be a student who represents the core of what the Baird community is, a student who pushes them-self to work hard, serve others, and become interdependent with others so that we may all grow stronger and smarter together as a
42 Reflecting upon the entirety of my academic career, I am astounded to consider the accolades bestowed upon me, some of which include ACT Plan Scholar, AP Scholar with Distinction, Socastee Junior Marshal and Scholars Academy Distinguished Junior, Erskine Fellow, Coker Scholar, Wofford Scholar, Presbyterian College Fellow, and a member of Phi Eta Sigma at Coastal Carolina University. Current club involvement includes the Scholars Academy chapter of the National Honor Society, engaging in various community service opportunities and school functions such as ice cream sales, open mic nights, and more; also a member of the Scholars Academy mathematics club and technology club, participating in mathematics competitions, technology fairs, and Rubik’s Cube solving
I have successfully planned and executed workshops and programs that have significantly contributed to the academic and career development of students, and I am eager to bring this expertise to further enrich the MESA program. Moreover, I have demonstrated proficiency in both English and Spanish, allowing me to effectively communicate with a diverse student body and engage with various communities. My prior involvement in managing the Los Angeles Valley College Biotech academy and participating in grant implementation has honed my skills in grant compliance, and reporting, which will prove invaluable in overseeing the MESA program's activities and ensuring its success. Having worked with postsecondary students in STEM-based fields for four years, I understand the challenges and opportunities they face.
Six years later I maintained my unwavering passion for science and love for the science center. After entering high school and discovering that I had to volunteer with a non-profit, I knew the
Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet) immensely supports and enhances my understanding of Canadian culture through the intent of empowering women to become their own heroines and its accentuation of the importance of self-development. Through the author’s revampment of these tragedies and her unexpected use of comedic relief, we, either as the reader or viewer, are able to better understand and relate to those within the play. Being a feminist herself, author Ann-Marie MacDonald’s objective of liberating Shakespeare's female characters from their supposedly unavoidable deaths is a clear example of our role as Canadians to empower the women around us to believe that they are in control of their own destinies for they can oppose the patriarchal
I find myself at a critical milestone in my life where I must make a pivotal decision that will shape both my career and academic pursuits. Having carefully evaluated my skills, interests, and aspirations, I am convinced that
At first, the concept of acquiring a science degree from a liberal arts college seemed strange. It made much more sense to attend a STEM-oriented school, perhaps even one situated on the coast like Texas A&M Corpus Christi. After graduating from Rollins College with a Bachelor of Arts with Honors in Marine Biology, I can confidently say that I made the best decision possible for a future in the modern world of science. One of the core tenets of Rollins’ education is a focus on holistic learning.
