“The Great War” was the craziest, bloodiest and massive war that changed the world. During the time period of 1914 to 1918 this is when WWI took place. There were many causes that occurred to start “The Great War”. Countries throughout Europe made mutual defense agreements that would pull them into the war. Imperialism increases a countries power and wealth by bringing additional territories under their own control. Africa and parts of Asia were points of contention among the European countries. 1914 Germany had the greatest increased military buildup. American companies could sell war supplies to fighting countries. The British navy tried to prevent Americans from trading with Germany. Hundreds of ships from America crossed the Atlantic Ocean and carried war supplies to France and also Great Britain. Germany accused the United States of not remaining neutral. Early January, of 1918 he spoke of a plan for a lasting permanent peace. The plan was known as Wilsons fourteen points. Any nations would be free to sail in any seas and ocean of around the globe. An organization that was called the League of Nations would be created to settle disputes between countries in a peaceful way. A conference that was held in the palace of Versailles near Paris, France in January of 1919. In the Great War, many soldiers were losing their lives in the field. The alliance that were in the war, were ultimately fighting for the desire of power. Countries like Germany and Austria-Hungary that were a part of the war wanted to be in control of as much as they could. This caused a lot of tension with the Triple Entente, which was an alliance between France, Great Britain, and Russia. The United States entered World War I April 6th, 19417. The US joined allies with Britain, France, and Russia to fight in World War I under the commander of Major General John J. Pershing. The US joined World War I for three main causes including moral, economic, and political reasons. Morally, United States citizens were called to duty to enlist in war because of propaganda from anti-German 's. Economically, American citizens entered war to secure economic productivity better yet, make a profit. Politically, unregulated submarine combat from Germany afflicted exports to Britain.
In January 1918, President Wilson gave an iconic speech that is remembered still to this day. His speech discussed the fourteen principles of peace that he wants to use for negotiating at the end of the War. Some leaders in Europe loved Wilson’s proposed Fourteen Points, but others didn’t think they were realistic enough. The viewed his Fourteen Points as idealistic. Some of the points included the reduction of weapons to prevent any war, the freedom to navigate oceans, and the redistribution of land.

The First World War started in early 1900s. Seven countries were in this battle and put together alliance among themselves as they were hungry for power and control. Germany and several great power went into war which was mainly in Europe due to several reasons, these include Nationalism, imperialism, militarism, alliance system and several major crises and incident that happened during a period. Some believe that the outbreak of the world war one was mainly responsible by the Germans because they did things like start the alliance system and extreme nationalism which made them make an alliance with Austria-Hungary and become a German state. All the European powers desired colonies in Africa and Asia. By this time, all of Africa (except Ethiopia and Liberia) and parts of Asia were carved up and shared between various European nations. To protect these colonies, countries began building up their militaries greatly, especially the British and Germans. Nationalism, or extreme patriotism, was also a major cause of World War I, and is also directly related to what sparked the war. The major conflict at the time was in the Balkans, and Serbia came out of the war as superior.
War provoked the countries to enter an economical tragedy to enter full militarism. Militarism is consider to be one of the leading causes of WWI, however, there is also two more. The alliances is also said to be a leading cause, along with imperialism. With the three leading causes of WWI; imperialism, militarism and alliances, alliances are the prominent cause. One of the lesser causes of WWI is imperialism.
