15 October 2015 Greek Life: Service Hand in Hand On November 11, 1750, a group of notable gentlemen studying at the College of William and Mary came together to create an extracurricular academic club, which is now deemed as the creation of first established Greek-letter organization. (Rehoboth Journal) Since then, several other Greek organizations have been formed in hopes of following in the footsteps of the original founders. Over the evolution of Greek Life, strong opinions have been construed about whether Greek organizations are beneficial or harmful to members and to the greater society. With the ideals of the founders in mind, Greek organizations were formed to build competent

This extravagant event is typically held during Parent’s Weekend at the University of Arizona. The purpose is to raise awareness about the dangers of heart disease and donate the proceeds directly to the Alpha Phi foundation.
The 11th Annual Red Dress Gala for the Beta Epsilon chapter of Alpha Phi at the University was held at the beautiful Loews Ventana Resort. Approximately 1700 members and their parents came together with a goal of surpassing goals from previous years by a significant amount: Alpha Phi made it a priority to raise $50,000 for Women’s Heart Health. In a casino setting, parents and members alike had the opportunity to gamble, catch up over a few cocktails and place bids on silent auction items. An $85 per plate dinner and premium prices on cocktails and valet parking contributed to the ultimate goal of

“Participating in service projects at University of Arizona not only benefits the outside community, but also the individual members.” (Beuther) Transitioning from the comforts and familiarity of high school life to an unfamiliar next chapter - college life, is often very difficult on young adults. These service activities provide a bonding experience between members and ease the transition from adolescence to adulthood by integrating the qualities of a successful adult into tasks. But the question is: who is really helping whom? It’s not a one-way street is it? No, Greeks and charities are mutually beneficial. Yes, Greek Life raises millions of dollars across the country but by participating in these philanthropies members are able to enrich their lives and increase their general sense of well being. How, you ask? Ed Diener and Martin Seligman explain in Beyond Money. In this report, Diener and Seligman provide examples of how service and helping others increases levels of happiness: “Happy workers are better organizational citizens, meaning that they help other people at work in various ways” (Beyond Money). They also determine the variables that assess well-being that apply to the general public. Among the list is engagement which in context, applies to ones sense of connection to the world around them and the activities they carry out in order
The integrity of Alpha Phi Gamma Sorority, Incorporated is to be upheld by Active Members, Alumnae members, Associate members, current potential new members and former potential new members. If Alpha Phi Gamma Sorority, Incorporated’s practices are learned by those who aren’t a part of it, it will be subjected to scrutiny and ridicule. People who are not a part of Alpha Phi Gamma Sorority, Incorporated do not understand the meaning behind each act and might condemn it. The sorority also then falls victim to any other organizations who might possibly try to slow down, or even worse, shut down Alpha Phi Gamma Sorority, Incorporated’s rush, process and Sisterhood. The purpose of these other organizations doing so lies within their own self- interest.
She found herself moving around the country often, spending months at a time without her husband. Naturally, most of her time was spent with her children: Beth, Arkansas; and Bill, a member of Pi Kappa Phi at the University of California, Berkeley. No matter where the family lived, there was always a welcoming Kappa alumnae association. Just as in her collegiate days when Betty served as Marshal, Membership Chairman and President of her chapter, she continued active engagement in alumnae associations. Through the years, she served as a member of House Board at the University of Southern California, chapter adviser at the University of Maryland, Province Director of Chapters, an original Regional Director of Alumnae, member of the Ethics and Values Task Force, Director of Alumnae and member of the Board of Trustees of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation.
An Alpha Sigma Phi who lives the value of Purity “does not shrink from adversity or lofty goals”. To embody this value, as a chapter we had to reevaluate why we chose to join Alpha Sigma Phi. As a Brotherhood we understood that our main goal is to further ourselves as gentleman, striving to become the future leaders of tomorrow. To achieve that goal we must improve ourselves as scholars, and stress the importance of growing as a person both morally and academically.
The period between 500 B.C.E to 338 B.C.E is referred to as “Classical Greece” due to the many achievements taken place, as well as the blossoming democracy in Athens, under the leadership of Pericles. One of the major confrontations during this period was between the Greek states and the Persian Empire. By the beginning of the 5th century BCE, Persia conquered Ionia, Thrace, and Macedonia while under the rule of Darius, and continued to expand his empire westward into mainland Europe.
Any philanthropic service that one can do, not just through a sorority, significantly benefits someone’s personal and communal life. Being in a sorority, however, gives someone even more opportunities to give back to the community and be able to do it consistently. Although most sororities and fraternities require their members to participate in community service, almost all members continue doing this philanthropic work and benefit from it in many ways. These certain benefits could be connecting with one’s community, growing social skills through communicating with members of the community and getting a different aspect of one’s community that could have them react positively to change it. In research on how philanthropy events affect members of a sorority or fraternity, Long says, “The researchers found that service involvement was positively associated with fraternity/sorority membership, being female, and academic performance” (Long, 18).
To the ancient Greek civilization before there were men, there were gods. There are twelve major gods and they are The Olympians. The twelve olympians are; Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, Demeter, Athena, Apollo, Artemis, Ares, Aphrodite, Hephaestus, Hermes, and Dionysus. In this paper i also mention the god Hades, although he is not an olympian he is still one of the most powerful gods and the brother of Zeus and Poseidon. It is to important to understand Greek mythology because, it's what the greeks believed, the background of human beings.
“Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave, I am the dream and the hope of the slave. I rise, I rise, I rise.,” to become a Delta Woman. When asked to express why I should be awarded the honor & pleasure of being apart this great sorority; I must admit I was a bit overwhelmed but also very humbled. However, I am reminded of the great women Delta Sigma Theta has helped mold some of the most influential women in the world. I want to be apart of the most illustrious sorority organization.
Have you ever wondered why Greek Gods were invented, well the gods were created by “man” to explain the world, “Act as a means of exploration and to provide entertainment.” But if you really look at the stories you can see some of the truth of what today's science has come from. But because they were scared of what the truth behind the sun the stars etc. so they made the stories into something they could relate to, but i’m only focusing on three of the most popular gods. Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades.
The people of Ancient Greece enjoyed going to the theatre and watching plays as much as they enjoyed architectural buildings and Greek culture. Art was a part of Ancient Greeces culture. Sculptures and paintings were the main forms of art that were very well known. These topics are what make up Ancient Greece. Art and Theatre are the center of Ancient Greek Culture and Society.
To the women of the grad chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Incorporated: The purpose of this letter is to inform you of my interest in becoming a member of the grad chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Incorporated. My desire to inspire young men and women and make a significant impact on their lives is just one of many reasons I aspire to join your great sorority. While growing up at a young age my mom worked out of my sibling lives. I did not have many positive female role models I could look to for guidance in different situations.
Prior to the founding of Epsilon Omega Zeta chapter, Soror Esther Peyton organized the Sorority’s first national service project, the Coatesville Project, which aided children of the miners in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. In 1995, Hattye Tillett suggested to the Amicae Club of Washington, D.C. to organize a social and civic group of their daughters and granddaughters of the Amicae called the Amicettes. Soror Esther of Beta Zeta Chapter of Washington, D.C., sponsored and organized this club; the D.C. Amicettes were the only group for a numbers of years.

This house inhabits thousands of different personalities and each year, new ones are added. This year marks the 130 year anniversary of success at the University of Nebraska, which means there have been 130 different pledge classes and endless memories. However, Delta Gamma was not an instant success, this house stands here today thanks to George Banta, who was Delta Gamma’s only mail initiate, he was actually a member of Phi Delta Theta, he worked towards making Delta Gamma a true sorority for women, which was unheard of at the time. There were solely only fraternities on campuses around the United
