The guns laws in this country must, absolutely must be reformed. I am an eighth grade student at Woodlawn Beach Middle School in Gulf Breeze. In the past couple of weeks, I have been told about multiple shooting threats to schools in our area. I was also informed of a recent shooting in Pensacola. Then, there was the school shooting in south Florida. How much more bloodshed will it take before we make a change? First of all, there must be more rules on who may purchase a gun. Those that are juvenile or mentally disabled may not have the capacity to realize the consequences of their actions. We are considered adults at age 18, but multiple sources agree that the brain is not fully mature until 25. We can’t always make good decisions with under-developed brains. One article reads that “because the prefrontal cortex is still developing, teenagers might rely on a part of the brain called the amygdala to make decisions and solve problems more than adults do. The amygdala is associated with emotions, impulses, aggression and instinctive behaviour.” (http://raisingchildren.net.au/articles/brain_development_teenagers.html) Those who are mentally disabled may have even …show more content…
However, they forget when the Constitution was written and that there is a first half. The full second amendment reads: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” The key word here: Militia. A militia is, according to my American history notes, “a group of civilians trained to fight in case of an emergency.” They brought their own muskets to battle. The Constitution was written in 1787 when the militia was still important and often used, people hunted for food and a living, and Native Americans were a threat. We now have an organized military, and a militia is no longer “necessary to the security of a free
" Most citizens United Sates have agreed and supported the Second Amendment because the Second Amendment has allowed people to defend themselves; yet, The Second Amendment should have been eliminated when the National Guard replaced the militias in 1903. (Ethical) The Second Amendment reads, "A well-regulated militia
amendment is also not granted by the US constitution. To many people, the second amendment is not clear. It confuses a lot in that some people argue that those that have the rights to possess firearms for self-defense are only the military. It does not specify that the citizens have the right to own firearms for self-defense and personal use. A study conducted by a Yale Professor showed that the “shall-issue” laws resulted in a rise in the rates of the violence, crimes, rape, and robbery hence with this it could be concluded that ownership of firearms by citizens lead to an increase in the crime rates.
Government lawyers begged to differ claiming that the 2nd amendment right did not imply to the individual right it was a “collective” right. That weapons such as rifles are used as common (war) defense not to be used as self defense so therefore the rights are meant to be used for militaristic power. However the supreme court overturned the lower court's ruling and claimed that the act was actually constitutional. However the court agreed that the National Firearms Act was put in place to keep states from pre forming militias not for the meaning of taking it away from personal possession therefore the act could be misunderstood under militia services. Then again the court also agrees that even a militia is made of a group of free men that would provide their own weapon stating they were unsure of militaristic
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects against unreasonable searches and seizures shall not be violated… We all know the fourth amendment. It's the amendment that guarantees our safety within our homes and our personal belongings. Yet, how much do you know about the fourth amendment? The fourth amendment is full of history, controversy, and discussion, even in modern day.
This means that citizens have the right to possess a firearm unconnected with service in a militia, and to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home. Although this amendment may seem straightforward, it has been subjected to lots of ongoing debate. Those who oppose gun control laws point out that, at the time the Second Amendment was written, militias were not groups of professional soldiers, but were made up of the common citizenry. On the other hand, people who favor gun control interpret the amendment as referring to armed forces such as the Air Force or the

In contrast, Opponents believe that arms should have regulations because they cause violence, such as mass shootings and murder. Despite the differences on each side, the second amendment aids in the protection of all individual rights of the people to keep and bear arms for self-defense when necessary. As a result, the definition of the right to bear arms has to be provided. The second amendment is quite a chicanery clause to understand, the first part of the clause states “ a well-regulated militia.” “Well regulated…” was defined in the eighteenth century, as properly but not overly regulated (Roleff 69).
The second amendment states that people have a right to bear arms under a well-regulated militia. This amendment was added to the Bill of Rights because the Americans had just finished fighting The American Revolution with the British government for independence-- Gun control by the British was one of the catalysts of this war. With the revolution fresh in mind, the Americans had registered that there was a need to unite and form a union; however, some Americans felt that a union could result in something similar to the tyranny that the British had imposed on them. They were hesitant of placing the power on a small handful of people-- The second amendment helped take some power from the government and give it to the people.
The second amendment states "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the
" Some reasons why this amendment was made are that the framers wanted adults to know how to use a weapon and to be ready to use a weapon if they were attacked. During this time, the British troops were still attempting to overtake the new land, one of the ways they did this was by attempting to take the people’s guns. There was still reason to believe that British would still attack the new country and the United States did not have a real army, so any military action needed to be responded to by

The second amendment from the Constitution gives the right of the people to bear arms and protect themselves. Although guns were very different back then, it doesn’t change the fact that the people should be able to protect themselves with weapons. Government shouldn’t be able to take away our freedoms, and the right to bear arms is one of those freedoms we have. The reason why we are a free country is because the colonies in the Revolutionary took up arms and revolted against their tyrannical King. Taking our second amendment would leave us defenceless and a government with power can take advantage of this and why we can’t revise the
Gun Control Gun control over the years has been a controversial subject, with people arguing for both sides. The 2nd amendment states that everyone in the U.S. has a right to bear arms. Mass shootings and suicides by firearm have been a growing concern for many people living in the U.S. Numerous people making the argument that there should be more gun control. Having gun control would help lessen the deaths by firearms in the country for a variety of reasons.
The Second Amendment in the Bill of Rights is the right to bear arms, which gives American citizens a constitutional right to own and purchase guns. It states, "A well-regulated
Now, the argument that, “the 2nd amendment only applies to a well-regulated militia (like the national guard) and has nothing to do with individuals” is an obvious ignorance of our country and the founding documents. Look at the militia act of 1796. That act required all able bodied men to own a MILITARY rifle (NOT a musket) so that it could be at the ready should that person be needed to defend his
