I. Introduction Attention getter- If guns kill people, then spoons make people fat. Purpose statement- my vision for America is that the second amendment is upheld. Thesis statement- my three main points over this main topic are why they are tools, why we should be able to keep them, and current events Now, onto my speech II. Main Body I believe that guns are not weapons, but are tools. I read something on www.topics-mag.com, and it compared Prohibition to selling and owning guns. I believe that this can be used because it compares using and selling alcohol because it was illegal during the time. It would have made me personally wanted the illegal things anymore then I would have before. I think that guns can be used as tools when hunting, …show more content…
The reason I believe that this should stay the same is because according to studies, most guns are stolen when found after committing some sort of a crime. Nowadays, when a gun is found or the bullet is found, they can trace what gunshot the bullet, or which bullet is used for each type of gun. Finally, onto my final point on current events There was a school shooting recently in Oregon on October 1st, 2015. It was at the community college in Roseburg. Their was 10 deaths including the person who killed the people. These types of things I honestly have no clue why someone would think this is okay to do. I believe if you think about doing these things you need help. These are some of the reasons I could see having tighter gun control would have a positive effect. Now, my conclusion. III. Conclusion Review of three main points- My three main points were why they are tools, why we should be able to keep them, and current
A tool used to liberate America from england to assist it to become the hegemon of the 20th century is in the midst of creating war in american society. The right to bear arms has created a heated debate in american politics. Two of such debates is from Patrick Radden Keefe who advocates for the the urgency and the need to regulate gun control and James Q. Wilson who promotes that gun gun control is not the problem and through the use of pathos and ethos these authors champion their truths. I believe that gun control should be regulated and that arms should not be so readily available to the
Everyone wonders what the future will be like at least once in their lifetime. Ray Bradbury and George Orwell addressed this idea with the writing of their books, Fahrenheit 451 and Animal Farm. These novels force one to think about what the future may be like. In these two books the authors attempt to convey messages of warning about what may come to be in the future by creating a society in which everyone is oblivious to the option of individual rights. Then, by using allusions, the authors compare their fictional worlds to today's society and give signs that our current world may become like these fictional societies.
If you recollect about it, this really should be an anticipated effect of gun control, though most people don 't remember far enough past the words "gun" and "control" to see it. When you do give up and recollect about it though, the criminals who are committing crimes at present are the ones still making this a relevant issue of discussion in the foremost position. They are the aces who are either getting access to certain weapons that are already illegal and/or the ones who are using legal weapons illegally. If it weren 't for them disregarding laws and causing these crime rates to fail up, gun control would not still be in
Mass school shootings have been going on for years and have only gotten more frequent. Mass school shootings have tripled since 2011 according to a Harvard Research. There have been five school shootings this year since August. People wonder if having stricter gun laws in general or allowing guns on campus would help these horrible tragedies from occurring. Depending on the environment being lived in plays a big role in the use and possession of guns.
Over the course of three years, approximately 160 school shootings have been recorded. Including fatal and nonfatal assaults, suicides, and unintentional shootings. In all, the incidents resulted in 59 deaths and 124 nonfatal gunshot injuries (Analysis of school shootings). It is unreasonable how many innocent lives have been taken away because of these tragedies. Oftentimes when a mass shooting occurs, people debate gun control laws more profoundly.
The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution grants its’ citizens the right to keep and bear arms. Though the Second Amendment addresses the legality of owning a firearm, the morality of owning a gun is left as an unanswered question. Since the right to bear arms is not a fundamental right and guns cause harm to innocent people, it is my position that the government should endorse stricter gun control measures, particularly automatic and semiautomatic weapons. In this paper I will argue my position of abolition by examining both premises in depth, discussing the role and duty of the government, and addressing an objection to my position.
II) The exact reason the second amendment was put in place was to protect the people from the very reason the American Revolution was fought. Taking away guns or controlling them more than they
We can decrease the criminal percent by a lot. If an adult had their own guns they could kill drugs dealers or anyone who tries to sell drugs. What about the kidnappers, if kids had their guns parents wouldn 't have to worry about their kids because they have gun they can protect themselves. If any person tries to kidnap any kid they would have think twice about because they would kill anyone who tries to kidnap them.
In 2013 an armed man went into a school and shot twenty-six little kids at Sandy-Oak Elementary. Not all of them died but many injured. Another time… A twelve year old boy, living in Mexico went to school one day. The boy pulled a shotgun out of his music instrument case and shot two students injuring them.
No topic has captured the depth of media’s attention such as the everlasting issue of the regulation of firearms. Anti-gun control supporters believe gun control would be counterproductive to solving the complication of gun violence, while pro-gun control supporters think it will be a good resolution to the problem. This discussion has become extremely heated issue. Stricter gun control laws are necessary and beneficial to the protection and security for the nation as a whole. Gun control opponents’ claim that restrictions on firearms would not decrease violence instead institute the opposite and leave citizens defenseless, using Washington and Chicago as evidence; however these claims are misinformed and unsupported.
Guns are responsible for almost thirty thousand deaths a year in America a little bit more than half of those deaths are suicides. America has a big problem with guns there are about 280 million to 300 million guns in private hands of americans. Gun shops need to do more background checks and see their mental health that could stop and incident like the gunmen who took thirty two lives at Virginia Tech in 2007. There have been more shootings like this one in various schools around the country.
Guns, in many people 's minds, are a very dangerous weapon and a threat, so that 's why gun laws are enforced. In 2017 gun laws in the U.S. are very hotly debated, with nongun owners saying more gun laws should be enforced gun owners saying there should not be more laws enforced, some even argue to rename gun restrictions. Gun owners say that people who are making these laws do not know what they are talking about because they have never owned a gun so they wouldn 't know that most gun owners do not use guns for violence but maybe for hunting and target practicing. But then again this could be argued by non-gun owners that the other percentage of owners that have guns do use their guns for violence. So because of this more gun laws should
According to “Number of Deaths in 2018,” so far there has been over 45 successful or attempted mass shootings in America this year - in only midway of March, 2018. And school shootings have averaged about a little more than once a week in 2018 currently. People will and have died or been injured from this gun violence. In “Guns in the US: The Statistics behind the Violence,” a study done in 2012 states 60% of homicides in America were from gun violence, and the number has grown these past few years as gun ownership and population has increased; and the number will continue to increase unless laws change. The huge rate of gun violence being the cause of death puts in prospective how guns are used to do more harm than good or
Guns, one of the most used tools for recreational purposes are nothing more than just a tool. This tool can easily be misused in attempts to deprive people of their earnings and personal belongings, and even to remove life from
Too many lives are being taken because of violent shootings. According to everytownresearch.org, “On an average day 96 Americans are killed with guns. Additionally, on average there are nearly 13,000 gun homicides a year in the United States.” David Frum, Daily Beast and CNN contributor, stated, “About 200 Americans go to emergency rooms every day with gunshot wounds.
