One of the strongest mortals was Hercules. Hercules was stronger than most of the gods. Hercules was so strong he was the reason the Olympians won their battle with the Giants. Hercules was said to be Zeus’s last mortal son. Thebes, Greece was where Hercules was born. Zeus seduced Alemene when he turned himself into her husband. Their affair caused Hera to hate Hercules and want him destroyed.

Hercules is the only man that had a mortal woman for a mother that became a god after her death.

Hercules was extremely strong, but he had limited intelligence and wisdom. One time when Hercules became too hot he took out his bow and threatened to shoot the sun. Hercules’s strong emotions often got him in trouble.

The Gods gave him Hebe, who was the daughter of Zeus and Hera. Hercules and his wife went to snowy Olympus to make their home as immortals. They lived in peace and did not grow old.

The first thing Eurystheus asked Heracles to do was to kill the huge lion that lived in Nemea. The lion was as ferocious as he was huge. He maned humans and animals and terrorized the animals and people in the area.

Hera trained the Lion of Nemea. He had skin that could not be penetrated by iron weapons.

When the Lion of Nemea and Heracles met, Heracles tried to use his arc but he could not kill the lion with the arrows. He decided to use his club. The Lon of Nemea went into a cavern that had two entrances. Heracles took stones and piled them up to close one of the entrances. He went in the other entrance looking for the lion. He did not use his club but instead grabbed the lion by the neck and twirled him around and with his powerful hands Heracles choked the lion to death.

Heracles than took the lion to Eurystheus, and he made himself a suit of armor out of the lion's skin.

Heracles wanted to memorize his labor, so he started the Nemean Games to praise Zeus.
