Heros Journey In Odyssey: The Hero's Journey

Movies from the past and present, maybe even the future, all have the hero of the story follow a 12 step journey to reach their end result. This twelve step process is called the Hero’s Journey, invented by Joseph Campbell. It allows the hero to start at a status quo, go from an ordinary world to an imaginary world and then come out full form. The hero 's journey allows to compare characters paths and the lesson that they learned . In the book Odyssey, written in the 8th Century BC by Homer, Odysseus follows a similar journey to a more modern heroine, Moana in the movie Moana, directed by Ron Clements and John Musker. On the other hand, Moana, is a young girl who tries to help save her island, Motonui, and her people and family by using her water powers to bring back the heart of Futi, but also experiences some trouble on her journey home. Throughout their journeys, both heroes, Odysseus and Moana, demonstrate that a true hero is one who love and treasures their family and people. Throughout their trials, both Moana and Odysseus have a special mentor to help them throughout the tough parts of their journey. For instance, Moana gets the help from a friend named Maui, a demigod, who had stolen the heart of Te Fiti. In the beginning, Moana’s family, especially her father, are very strict about her going out into the ocean alone. But, her grandmother realizes that she is the one that can help the island from dying. One day, Moana’s grandmother falls ill, she tells her that once the Heart of Te Fiti is removed the world will become a deadly place and that the person who had the heart was Maui.
