What defines an individual are the characteristics portrayed in their persona. Leadership, teamwork and sportsmanship is a combination of values that will set a high-minded standing citizen in the community, field and in the workforce. The activities that I have participated in have given me the opportunity to experience and enhance my knowledge in being a leader for my team and my community. Being the captain of the varsity swimming team has given me the opportunity to not just lead a wonderful team, but also learn about my teammates and consider them as family. It takes a lot of patience and knowledge to step up to the position of a leader. One of the things I have learned as the varsity swimming captain is that a leader is much …show more content…
Therefore, my ambition motivated me to join Keep Brownsville Beautiful on the effort to improve the community’s environment. I was part of the recycling events in which took place during many high school football games to collect empty plastic bottles to recycle them to reduce greenhouse effect. My other participations in community service events are with the National Honor Society. As the Parliamentarian for the Lopez Early College High School National Honor Society, I contributed in the participation of the organization to be present at the Mile of Hope to bring awareness for breast cancer. In addition, we organized a canned- food drive to be donated for the school’s janitors and those in need during the Thanksgiving break, we collected toys for “Toys For Tots”, wrote Christmas Cards for Veterans and volunteered at Spanish Meadows, a nursing home, to share the Christmas Spirit with the elders. In addition to helping the community, volunteering has helped me build the person I am today. The warm feeling that I get after volunteering is an honorable feeling that influences me to become a better person and makes me know that I can be there for
When I was a freshman, I went to was an event called Winter Rage at Clackamas High School. It was a day where the school collected donations of food, clothes, toys, and basic items for families in need around the community. The day of the event required hours of set-up and packaging. When families arrived, it was very heartwarming to see the smiles on their faces as they received enough food and warm clothes for the winter season. I was in charge of handing out toys and Christmas gifts to children and families.
For the past two years, I have been involved in the Carmax Cares community service month. We provided assistance to the Foster Care Support Foundation in Roswell, Georgia. This organization sends out gently worn closes, shoes and other necessities to support foster care providers in the state of Georgia. We packaged items to be sent out and organized their warehouse inventory. On campus I am an active member of SABAC as well as the Georgia Club.
Due to my involvement in numerous extra-curricular activities, I have been able to greatly improve my leadership abilities. Throughout by six years in cheerleading, I have learned how to be a good representation of my school by doing what was right, even if I was doing it alone. At the beginning of my senior year, I was proclaimed as captain of the Varsity squad. With this position, I have worked to represent both my squad and my school by making the tough decisions and keeping spirit alive. To me, being a cheerleader meant being a leader first and cheering second.
As the spirits of the holidays are around the corner, that means Christmas festivities are coming soon. In addition, there are many exciting new activities and events coming around as the year is ending. One of which is the Operation Christmas Child project that anyone can participate in. Chino Hills High’s CSF club has participated in the annual Operation Christmas Child Shoebox collections. The Operation Christmas Child is from Samaritan’s Purse, a non-denominational organization that accepts toys, toiletries, clothes, and school supplies to be given to kids.
With my luck I wasn 't surprised that the day National Honor Society slips were handed out, my homeroom teacher was absent. As I went from period to period, everyone gushed about how they were considered to become a part of the society. I sat there silently not saying a word. One can only imagine the stress I went throughout the day wondering if I was in or out. I ended up getting the letter the next day during homeroom.
A leader is someone who leads by example on and off the mat. I have learned and now possess great qualities of being a leader. Proven evident by the fact that I have been the wrestling captain for the past four years, and this past year the varsity football captain. I cannot thank all the coaches, teammates, and other wrestlers across the country for the great lesson they taught me. The lesson being very cliché, but very near and dear to my heart.
During my high school career I have made a consistent effort to stay involved in both my school and community. Through clubs such as Key Club, National Art Honor Society, and National Honor Society I’ve been able to help out locally and globally in an abundance of ways. In Key club and NHS I am able to volunteer in traditional ways, but National Arts Honors Society allows me to contribute to my community and school in a creative way that stimulates people 's minds through art. Due to these activities having a significant impact on my life my future career options are based around what I have learned from them.
I don’t normally volunteer and when I do it’s such an awesome feeling knowing I did something for other people. Most of the time I go way too long without volunteering and I forget what a rewarding feeling it is to give me time. Another thing I learned was how appreciative this soccer club was. Everyone there welcomed me so nicely and it’s like I had known them for a long time. Not only was I able to help others out I was also able to make friends while I was volunteering.
Leadership Leaders in the sports world can influence millions. Leaders in the sports world are people that others look up too. They are people who are known for what they do because they are good at it, and they have the respect of others because of their impact on and off the field/court. The world today revolves around sports in so many aspects, and the PowerPoint I have created, shows the athletes that are known as the greatest leaders to the sports world today. Leaders in the sports world are the people every athlete and teammate look up to and strive to be.
A Sense of Accomplishment Volunteering isn’t one of the most plush, easy, or glamorous of jobs, but it is one of the most beneficial and up lifting. While no monetary compensation is received, many will tell you that their work and experiences gained as a volunteer were worth way more than any money they could have gotten from another line of work. Think of it like this: volunteering is done on a person’s own accord. It’s taking some time out of your day and helping others. Volunteer work makes us feel good.
To have passion means to experience an intense desire or enthusiasm for something. I’d say I have a passion for sports, but that would be an understatement. The day I got introduced to sports, was the day I found the missing puzzle piece in my life. First I joined a peewee soccer team, then it was recreational basketball, and lastly lacrosse in middle school.
Those who volunteer will more than likely do so to give back to their community and the citizens in a positive manner, or they want to be able to help those who are less fortunate. Volunteering provides many benefits to the people who are served; however, many do not realize that volunteering can also provide benefits to the volunteers themselves. The actions of volunteering benefit the mental health, physical health, and social interactions of the volunteers. Although most people volunteer to give back to the community and people, many do not realize that volunteering can help give back to the volunteers by contributing positively to their mental health, physical health, and social network. Volunteering contributes positively to the mental
The fact that, through helping others, citizens are able to improve their own way of like is a seemingly obvious reason why someone would choose to volunteer. Aside from benefiting the mental health and physical wellbeing of citizens, volunteering also has the potential to benefit the careers of individuals as
For that to happen, teammates must feel that I am sincere and willing to listen to them. This will allow me to understand my teammates better and how I can work with them efficiently and effectively. Thus, being a leader to me means empathizing and engaging with those that I am
Like most interactions with one’s community, volunteering allows people from different areas to come together and interact as a whole. Working on projects or cooking meals can create conversations, leading to relationships with new faces. An article from Build Abroad states, “Volunteering provides you with an opportunity to get know like-minded people” (“11 Life-Changing Benefits of Volunteering That May Not be so Obvious”). Putting oneself in a situation with new people allows for new opportunities. That person may get to know others that they have never met before, forming relationships and bonds.
