Prior to WWII, Adolf Hitler took upon the position of a dictator in Germany. By doing this, he had given himself full control of all of Germany’s forces and due to his views, started WWII. This led to many atrocities occurring, including the holocaust. Although, WWII may have been prevented if the League of Nations took the path of collective security instead of appeasement when dealing with Germany. The League of Nations should have taken a much more aggressive approach when Hitler became dictator and imposed his beliefs onto his country, invoking nationalistic and retributionalistic feelings against countries that had forced them into this situation. Additionally, they should have taken action against Germany when they had remilitarized …show more content…
“There is to be no European war… the price of that peace is… the ceding by Czechoslovakia of the Sudeten territory to Herr Hitler’s Germany” . Germany had taken over part of Czechoslovakia using militaristic means and was released by the League of Nations with no punishment still following the path of appeasement. The League of Nations had no assurance that Germany was going to stop invading other countries other than what Hitler had said during the meeting, yet they had still not penalized Germany in any way. Additionally Italy, Germany’s ally, had invaded Ethiopia adopting Hitler’s plans to invade countries that held native speakers. This had shown that the alliance threatened the peace in Europe which called for the League of Nations to act. However, the League of Nations had failed to act once more against the alliance due to appeasement. If the League of Nations had acted against the alliance, then WWII would most likely not have started. If would not have started because Italy would have repercussions, such as military sanctions and Germany would not have any protection from the south if a war was to break out. Collective security should have been used by the League of Nations against Germany and Italy because they were threatening the peace of
One of the reasons why the world suffered another war is because Germany violated the Treaty of Versailles. They violated the treaty so their country would be great and they would get back to their original status before WWI. Hitler promised the German people that he will bring Germany out of the crash and make Germany more powerful than before. Adolf Hitler shares some of his ideas the German people, ”Oppressed territories are led back to the bosom of a common Reich, not by flaming protest, but by a mighty sword”(Document 1). Hitler is trying to convince the German people that they should start taking over land, not peacefully but by force.
“What is essential, in the French view, is that the German government must be compelled by diplomatic pressure first and by stronger pressure if need be, to withdraw from the Rhineland” (NYT 3). After growing the military, Hitler eventually broke the Treaty of Versailles and interfered in the Rhineland, placing military control over the region. France desperately argued that Germany should leave either by negotiation or force. France originally let it slide, but held it against Germany in the back of their minds. When Hitler invaded Poland, they were finally forced to declare war which led to a six-year-long global conflict that destroyed many countries'
Neville Chamberlain had thought that with this agreement to give the Sudetenland to Germany, Hitler would end because the other countries feared him and wanted to avoid what happened in 1914-1918 (The Munich Conference). This fear, however, drove Hitler even more to continue. This appeasement was a great mistake by the world leaders at the Munich Conference because they showed Hitler that they were afraid of him, allowing him to do more things that went against the Treaty of Versailles without any counteraction. Showing Adolf Hitler the fear of the other European countries and allowing him to take control of the Sudetenland was one of the greatest mistakes that the great leaders could make at the Munich
The League of Nations was set up in attempt to ensure a revived conflict would not arise. Wilson felt by putting this point into place we can avoid going into war with other nations. Unfortunately, Wilson’s plan failed due to the German Army who built their efforts on the European Western Front. However, within a few months the German Army began peace talks based on his Fourteen Points of
In document 3 it says “March. 7 Germany today cast off the shackles. fastened upon her by the Treaty of Versailles of when adolf hiter, sent his new battalions into the rhineland demilitarized zone”. Hitler didn't care he violated the rule of Treaty of Versailles, he wasn't allowed to invade Rhineland but he still did .Hitler could have been stopped at this moment if people would’ve use collective security because he broke the the agreement and did what he wanted but nobody stopped him, which allowed him to do what he wants because he thought people cared but didn't care enough to stop him.
Because of that point, American senators were iffy about ratifying the treaty. They saw the League of Nations as a trap. Basically America would be pulled into all kinds of wars even if they were not the ones directly attacked. If America had decided to ratify it, all of the Americans would be at risk because who is to say a nation not in the
In 1939, the world was plunged into World War II. This happened as a result of Germany remilitarizing the Rhineland, violating the Treaty of Versailles in the process, leaders in Europe assuming power through intimidation and creating laws depriving citizens of basic civil rights, German expansion into other areas of Europe, an attempt to appease Germany through the Munich Agreement, and political and economic instability in the major European countries. This conflict brought up appeasement and collective security, both of which were used before the war in an attempt to prevent it, as responses to aggression. Of the two, collective security is the most effective response to aggression because it has a great chance of ensuring the maintenance
If Chamberlain had worked with the other nations to figure out a plan to stop Hitler, instead of
On March 7th, 1936, Germany entered a buffer zone between Paris and Germany called Rhineland. The Treaty of Versailles, the treaty signed after WW1 to punish Germany, clearly stated that Germany was not to enter this area. As a result, Paris appealed to the League of Nations, the group of countries who worked together to stop illegal behavior like what Hitler and Germany was doing. Allowing Germany to keep his forces in Rhineland would mean letting them violate the rules for their own benefit, which is something collective security would enforce before Germany got too far. Other countries also got away with breaking the rules without the needed interference of colIective security.
Everyone has heard of Adolf Hitler and how he tried to conquer Europe. He attempted doing it at the right time when everyone thought that Germany was going to lose everything, because, the national debt and inflation was so high. Germany was so desperate for anyone to help them that Adolf Hitler saw a chance to step up and be in charge of everything. Hitler was very good at acting like he really cared about his people. He claimed to the German people that he would help with unemployment, help businesses, success to the failed businesses, and to expand their army to make them more powerful.
World war ll was a very tragic war that resulted in 6 million Jews being murdered, The Nazis are to blame. Hitler not only wanted to kill the Jews, but torture them and force them to work in brutal conditions. Hitler's reason for the was to create a “perfect race”. If the Jews were not able to work they would send them to a gas chamber to kill them off quickly. Jews were beaten, whipped, shot, gassed, and burned.
World War I, at its time, was the most violent and destructive war in human history. Afterwards, the Allies convened at the Paris Peace Conference to ensure that such total and utter demolition and loss of human life would never happen again. At this conference, they created the Treaty of Versailles, a peace treaty which dictated the terms of Germany’s surrender. America’s greatest concern with this treaty was Article X, a clause which stated the terms of the League of Nations. This was incredibly controversial, as it dictated that the nations who ratified the treaty would be required to involve themselves in conflicts which may not necessarily pertain to them.
Adolf Hitler preached his beliefs that Germans were the superior race and that all other races were inferior to Germans. This caused the attack on anyone except Germans themselves. Germany had begun war with the world due to their feeling of superiority. This caused the change for the world in a sense.
Germany, had easily invaded the Rhineland territories due to the German’s rapid militarization. By doing so, they had been able to establish more land, which had essentially given them much more occupation. Also their invasion had been a barometer measuring how the League Of Nations would react. Italy on the other hand, had been undergoing imperialism to regain their pride and essential strong points in the sense where another war would arise. In turn, this allowed them to seize control of more land and have different points of attack and defence.
Which was 1 an agreement between France, Italy, Nazi Germany, and Britain. [Since] Germany invaded the Sudetenland in Czechoslovakia, the British and French prime ministers tried to get Hitler to agree not to use his military in the future in return for the land he had taken. This act was unsuccessful as Hitler invaded the rest of Czechoslovakia, then this led Britain and France to declare World War II. Another cause of World War II was Fascism. Since the World War I left the economy a mess, countries were being taken over by dictators, as these dictators looked for new lands to conquer.
