The Salem Witch Trials are a black mark on American history and all because teenage girls became hysterical and began making outlandish accusations; Arthur Miller’s The Crucible, written in the 20th century, is his account of the events of that time. The question has been asked: Could something similar to the Salem Witch debacle ever happen again? The answer is yes, something similar to what took place in The Crucible could and still happens in the United States today. The presidential election of 2016 is similar; accusations and allegations, whether true or not, are thrown everywhere and at everyone. Divorce between spouses can be a dreadful incident with partners placing fault on one another, though it may not truly be anyone’s fault at all. Crimes and trials mirror the events of The Crucible; witnesses are bribed to make false statements about what is true. Currently, accusations are being made between candidates and supporters on both sides. For example, Donald Trump is currently claiming that the entire election has been manipulated to go against him from the start. Hillary Clinton has made accusations of her own; saying that Donald Trump is fueling hate groups and stereotypes in the United States. In addition to these claims, numerous more have been made. None of these claims have been proven true or false, much like what happened during the Salem Witch Trials. Allegations are made today in simple ways, such as divorce. Spouses often try to find reasons to blame the divorce onto the other. The reasons may be trivial, immense, true, or false, but nonetheless, accusations are made. Because of these accusations, a spouse may lose custody of children, property, possessions, or money. Although, they may not be losing their lives, that child or children may mean everything to the
