Before the 1600’s, electricity was not a huge concept. The idea of electricity or the need for it was very foreign to several people. Until one day, in the 1700’s, when a man of the name Benjamin Franklin introduced this idea and made it into a reality with his invention of the Electrostatic Machine. The Electrostatic Machine laid the groundwork for understanding electricity and magnetism in depth. In the 1600’s, philosophers, scientists, and instrument makers created many devices to generate electrostatic charges, but was never to the full extent and paused with only their charges. Although, incomplete machines date back from 1750 and appear to have been Benjamin Franklin’s very own design of the Electrostatic Machine. The idea of electricity “sparked” Franklin’s interest and he began to investigate electricity with supplies from a few of his friends in Britain. …show more content…
How the machine functioned was by a glass globe turning on its axis and a cloth pad in contact with the globe. Metal needles conduct away the charge created by the globe by friction and then with the pad, the high voltage capacitor creates the charge. Soon, Franklin’s Electrostatic Machine led to new theories about electricity and inventing the lightning rod. Overall, Benjamin Franklin’s Electrostatic Machine prepared a solid foundation for comprehending electricity and its components. His machine was so successful and highly valued that it is being held at Princeton University. This showed that you can achieve massive accomplishments when you work hard and challenge yourself. Even more so, it created an environment of new theories that helped others in the future expand on these new ideas. Ultimately it changed what today looks like because Franklin decided to step out of the “norm” and create amazing ideas into a reality of inventions that soon would cultivate the
The American identity has evolved over time. During the 1700’s, the Enlightenment, also known as the Age of Reason, occurred. It spread rapidly across Europe, and then to North America. This revolutionary way of thinking was crucial to the development of the American identity. The Enlightenment was the period for cultivation of science and human reason.
Nikola Tesla Figure From Progressive Era Research Paper Essay Nikola Tesla is an inventor with a very vivid imagination a visionary who saw electricity as a means to change the world. He deserves a place in history for the many accomplishments and contributions he made throughout his lifetime. One such invention that he made impacted the world for being the only person to perfect the efficient use of alternating-current electricity which is widely used for power transmission in the world today. Nikola Tesla laid the groundworks for some modern technology used today and thus he deserves a place in history for proving how much of an impact he has made on the world. Motivations Nikola Tesla as an inventor who had a vivid imagination and had big
Starting at around the early 1800’s in America, the industrial revolution began when young mechanic Samuel Slater memorized how to build a mill from scratch. It produced so many different pieces of technology from the water frame to the use of railroads and train locomotives. These inventions and much more helped advance the human race into further and more complicated technology. Little did Samuel Slater know that his invention would start a huge progress through technology for almost a century. As mills became more successful soon machines that used mills were produced including the innovations listed in document 1.
When he discovered this, he thought that, "The secrets if this earth are not for all men to see, but only for those who will seek them" (Rand 52). The things on the earth that man does not know will not just pop out, but rather man has to go look and learn for the unexplained things that roam the earth. Equality worked aimlessly to discover this new power, that was used in the Unmentionable Times called electricity, like the Dark Ages' candles. He thought that if the World Council saw this discovery suddenly they would become engrossed with Equality and move him into the House of Scholars, unfortunately his invention was rejected because nothing good came out of inventions if they were worked on individually and not my a group of
Do you ever wonder how Benjamin Franklin helped shape our country? He contributed greatly in shaping our country including signing the Constitution, helping launch schools, fire departments and printing shops and helping to unite countries. Not only did he do all of that, he was also the only founding father who signed all four key documents establishing the United States which include the United States Constitution, Declaration of Independence, Treaty of Alliance with France, and the Treaty of Paris. Ben Franklin was a leading compromiser that helped shape our country because he encouraged people to repeal the Stamp Act, he helped make an alliance with France, and he went to the Constitutional Convention and signed the United States Constitution. Benjamin Franklin was born on January 17, 1706 in Boston, Massachusetts in a town called Milk Street.
Anthem by Ayn Rand, Equality 7-2521 is creating electricity. Knowing his invention of light would impact mankind, he did it out of spite of doing what he loved, science. Also, making people happy and sharing his ideas with the world. Equality’s primary motivation is inventing something that the House of Scholars had never seen before.
C I also found in the text that it says “His Revolutionary idea was to conduct electricity safely into the ground to save buildings from fires.” E This quote shows me that Benjamin Franklin was the only one that one Revolutionary discovery. C The last citation that I had found from the article states “ The simple metal rod connected to a wire made Franklin famous throughout Europe and the

Pennsylvania and Delaware The pennsylvania colony was one of the thirteen original colonies in America. The delaware colony was one of the thirteen colonies in America, which were divided into three regions including the New england colony , The Middle colonies , and the southern colonies. Pennsylvania was founded as a colony in 1681. Delaware was founded as a colony in 1638.
After all of this, Tesla had created a motor that was superior to the current motors in every way. The current motors had brushes, which often caused sparks, and on top of this, the brushed motors had to have frequent maintenance. Tesla’s motor didn’t have any of these troubles. Another one of Tesla’s inventions was the iconic Tesla coil. The Tesla coil was complicated to invent.
Another way he proved it was in 1752 he conducted the famous key and kite experiment to prove that lightning was electricity. He eventually invented the lightning rod which attracted lightning which made lightning hit that rod instead of a nearby house, also providing electricity. Franklin also invented lots of other random things that we still use today and are very popular. For example, he crafted his own flippers. Ben was a self-taught swimmer and performed long distance swims on the Thomas River, later in 1968 he was inducted into a honorary member of the International Swimming Hall of Fame (Biography.com).
The Franklin stove became a phenomenon which spread rapidly through the colonies, helping hundreds of households. Benjamin exploited his personal ingenuity for the good of all the colonies, and we still benefit from his creative, resourceful thinking
Franklin was known for creating many things that we still use today, and we will continue uses for many years to come. Inventions that we still use today would be the lightning rod, street lighting, odometer, Bifocal glasses, and the discovery of Daylight Saving Time. Franklin invented the lightning rod to protect the building from lightning; Franklin believed this was the most important inventions. With street lighting, he only improved it by using the scientific method to help improve the quality of light. As he describe it in his Autobiography, "I, therefore, suggested composing them of four flat panes, with a long funnel above to draw up the smoke, and crevices admitting air below, to facilitate the ascent of the smoke; by this means they were kept clean, and did not grow dark in a few hours, as the London lamps do, but continu'd bright till morning."
Thomas Edison is an American inventor and businessman, who has been described as “America’s greatest inventor.” His tireless work efforts and dedication to science not only helped him to create inventions that have advanced technology , but also become an inspirational figure for Americans. His improvements and inventions on objects that were already invented helped the lives of over millions of Americans. He helped to build America’s economy during some of its more vulnerable years as a new nation. Thomas Edison’s inventions have helped to advance our society though his dedications and knowledge in mechanical, electrical, and chemical sciences.
