The freedom of the animals that causes corruption. This book was written by George Orwell and it was written to represent the Russian revolution. They gained freedom and power and equality. The animals were fine and working as a team for a while. Then Snowball (one of the main good guys) got exiled by Napoleon (Corrupted leader). Then Napoleon took over as the main leader and wasn’t horrible at first but got worse later. I will be explaining how and why Napoleon got corrupted in this essay so lets get started! The reason why the pigs got corrupted by power is because it made them lazy and they thought they were better than everyone else. They changed the seven commandments to fit their agenda. The pigs didn’t have a problem at the beginning …show more content…
One of the commandments on page 24 says “No animal shall sleep in a bed”. This means that no animal should stay in the house and sleep in the humans bed. Napoleon changed this commandment on page 34 to “No animal shall sleep in a bed with sheets”. This made it so the pigs could sleep in the beds now, ultimietly changing the commandment for there …show more content…
The superiority complex was always there and the main reason was the pigs. The pigs are the smartest animals on the farm because they know how to read. They started using this against the other animals and changing the 7 commandments. The moment Napoleon decided to live in the farm house and sleep on the beds, was when it started getting unmanageable. The ultimate tipping point would be the quote talking about how all animals are equal but some are more equal. On page 68 it says “All animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others”. This quote is saying that some animals have more rights and get better treatment. This is the superiority complex at its finest. Furthermore Napoleon did all these things because he had too much power, and was becoming a sociopath. I would like to take a moment to summarize the facts that I stated earlier. Napoleon and Squealer took their freedom, equality, rights away. They changed the commandments and took advantage of the other animals. The pigs got lazy and didn’t help the farm at all and ate the good food. They thought they were better and smarter than the other animals. The pigs were the same as the other animals and shouldn't have taken advantage of them. This book really helped me understand the Russian revolution and what happened to the
None of the animals...except for old Benjamin...seemed to understand...” That quote means that Napoleon forced squealer to go change the commandments to benefit the pigs. The pigs think they are superior over the other animals even though the farm's motto is “Four legs good, two legs bad.” Napoleon wanted to keep superiority over the farm by using fear, propaganda, and Animalism to get his ways at the farm. Napoleon wanted to have complete power over the farm but the animals were catching onto what he was doing to the future of the farm
The animals agree that anyone who assisted Snowball deserved to be killed as traitors. Eventually, the animals realize that Napoleon was getting out of hand. Napoleon began to change the Commandments to make things easier in his life. “...he said, that the pigs, who were the brains of the farm, should have a quiet place to work in.” (66).
There were changes in the seven commandments. In the commandment it stated that every animal is equal but later on it changed into all animals are equal but some are more equal than others. The more important one were the pigs. Other animals were made to sleep on the ground with the availability of nominal amount of food. The pigs were allowed to use the beds and mattress for themselves.
The narrator explains that, “and though no one cared to mention it in the hearing of the pigs or the dogs, it was felt that the killings which has taken place did not square with this.”(76) The animals are too afraid to say anything against what they know is wrong and against the seven commandments. Their freedom is being taken away because they know if they say anything the pigs don 't like, they will be killed. The narrator tells us how, “As soon as they were weaned, Napoleon took them from their mothers, saying that he would be responsible for their education”(30) referring to Jessie and Bluebells litter of puppies.
Snowball was run out of the farm and made seem a horrible and untrustworthy leader to make Napoleon seem better and more “on top”. At times, Napoleon even gave himself more superior titles like “our Leader, Comrade Napoleon, Father of all Animals, Terror of Mankind, Protector of the Sheep-fold, Ducklings’ Friend, and the like…. It had become usual to give Napoleon the credit for every successful achievement and every stroke of good fortune.”. Napoleon made every good thing that happened his fault but any mistake, or bad thing that happened, was at the fault of Snowball, although he was run off of the
The pigs took away rights and lives of their own citizens as did the Soviet’s, which helps teach what the book was trying to show that when these political figures gain such power, that they should not use it to only their advantage but to everyone’s. This can be represented at the end of the book when Napoleon has a meeting with humans and starts to resemble the humans exactly. This is because Napoleon used his power for his own well-being like the humans and eventually resembled one. “The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.” pg.124 The image of the pigs appearance is tarnished by the way the pig treated his citizen as did Stalin.
Napoleon made a substantial impact on the way the animals reacted to their new hardships. The pigs, including Napoleon, are said to be the most intelligent animals on the farm, but unlike the others, Napoleon uses it to manipulate the
The rulers of the farm take advantage of the low reading skills that the rest of the animals possess and use that weakness against them, as the animals just believe whatever the pigs tell them to, as they have no reason not to. The pigs’ goals seem intact and they do
But in the end the pigs and humans not only look alike but, also sound alike. Napoleon uses three different tactics to seize and control, but also maintain the farm those tactics are propaganda, loyalty of the farm, and fear. Napoleon uses propaganda by allowing Squealer to talk to
The pigs used “animalism” to their advantage and also changed its rules for their benefit. Old Major never meant for Napoleon to use his ideas of “sharing” to cause more problems for the other animals than before under Mr.
Hence, tearing out their throats. Almost as soon as Napoleon and Snowball seize power, Napoleon starts squirreling away the cows' milk all for himself. And then the pigs start sleeping in the humans' beds. And then they start drinking whiskey and having rowdy parties.
Furthermore, Napoleon gives the other animals the impression he was the sole leader of the rebellion on Animal farm and makes Snowball -a leader who wanted what was best for the animals- seem like an enemy who was in cahoots with Farmer Jones since long before the animals took over the farm. Napoleon and Squealer (another “fat cat” pig.) always put the blame on Snowball whenever something went wrong in the farm to avoid having the blame fall on them. Napoleon is an exemplary example of just how selfish and hypocritical people can be in furthering their own aims because he continued to subtly but purposely change the seven rules put in place as the pillars of animalism. For example, Napoleon and the other pigs move into Farmer Jones’s house and sleep in his bed after commanding “No animal shall sleep in a bed”, so he changes the commandment to read “no animal shall sleep in a bed with sheets”.
Only puppies and pigs can live in the house, sleep in the bed, eat apples and cookies and have all of the best things. As the history is developing, Napoleon is getting more and more like a dicator. He slowly begin to being superior but did not act like a dictator. Moreover, he broke some rules, he’s in contact with humans, and he had hours of works, and he killed aniamsl, and change the only commandment for “4 legs good, 2 legs better”. He also think that “Every animals are equal, but some are more equal then others.”
In the book, Napoleon’s power could of been used for the greater good, but he decided to use it for the opposite. Most of the time when someone has a lot of power they can abuse it and “if [they] can abuse [their] power [they] have too much" (Rubin). During the Rebellion it was good that the pigs stepped up and took leadership. Although, Napoleon shouldn’t of had as much as he did and it wasn’t right of him to kick out Snowball just to get more fame on the farm. There’s always going to be at least one person in our lifetime that gets obsessed with the attention and starts to abuse all the power they have to receive more, even if it isn’t the correct thing to do.
Here the conditions the animals suffered are described, “Throughout the spring and summer they worked a sixty-hour week, and in August Napoleon announced that there would be work on Sunday afternoons as well. This work was strictly voluntary, but any animal who absented himself from it would have his rations reduced by half”(24). This quote shows how Napoleon manipulated the animals so that they were forced to either work unrealistic hours or starve. The pigs represent the Soviet ruling class because they are greedy, lazy, and manipulative. When Napoleon attacks Snowball and drives him to exile he is imitating the way Joseph Stalin drove his former friend Leon Trotsky to death.
