Princess Sparkle Heart gets a Makeover by Josh Schneider, is a book that reflects both traditional and nontraditional norms because it’s about a girl, Amelia, and her doll that becomes damaged and then replaced with different body parts that don’t fit cultural expectations that normally portray a girl doll and Amelia still views her as beautiful. From looking at the book cover, you would expect this book to only reflect traditional norms. The title is pink, sparkly, and the font is flowy but at the same time it’s bold. Half of the words in the title are sparkly and the other half is made up of different patterns, and has screws and buttons sticking through them.
Symbolism especially with animals played a huge part in the Native American religion party. Native American religion is something hard to define. In order for you to understand the meaning of their religion you have to grow up submersed in the beliefs, practices, and know the traditions of any tribe. It’s something really different, it isn’t the same as becoming a born-again Christian or converting to judaism. Each tribute and peoples had their own unique beliefs, legends, and rituals, but they all believed the world was filled with spirits.
The Choctaw people were once a prosperous Native American tribe in the United States of America that settled in more than 50 villages in an area now known as Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana and Southern Mississippi.. That is a circle. From seed to harvest, the life of the Ojibway is full and it is sufficient. This is what you must tell my grandchildren’” (Broker 57). This shows how important the traditions were to Oona’s tribe.
Some of the Amerindians who lived in the areas of eventual colonization were the Olmecs, Zapotecs, Mixtecs, Maya, Purepecha (Tarascan), and the Aztecs, among others. They were spread out from the Gulf of Mexico to Tenochtitlan and south. Little did they know that when Hernan Cortes made his voyage to the area, he would turn their whole world upside down. Starting just before the 16th century, explorers from Spain and Portugal became curious of the stories of land and riches they had heard in relation to the Americas.
Many traditional Cherokees believe that after one dies, his or her soul often continues to live on as a ghost (Cherokee Indian Religion). They are supposed to have the ability to materialize where some but not all can see them. More fundamental beliefs that they follow is that good is rewarded, and evil is punished, and witchcraft among the Cherokee does not resemble that of non-Indian cultures (Cherokee Indian Religion). Even though they follow a strict belief system and everything had a purpose and was thought out, there are times when punishments cannot be explained. When someone does something right, it is rewarded either by being ranked higher or having individual honors or privileges within the society.
The Mingo were a highly developed culture and though displaced by Europeans, they have retained many of their customs and beliefs. This Native American tribe continues to show many aspects of its ancestry through daily practices and its religious and social structures even with European influence and displacement to reservations. A part of everyday life for Mingo Indians was the clothes that they wore. The men of the tribe wore breechcloths with leggings, and the women of the tribe usually wore kilts, wore wraparound skirts, short leggings, and overdresses.

This ritual is very beneficial to the Hopi communities and also entertaining for them to watch and enjoy. There are several ceremonial performances that occur in my community annually. I believe that the three pieces we've read have impacted our view on Native American culture and how Native Americans and their heritage is mistreated by today's society. Some members of our society - including some colleges and runway models/designers - mock Native American history and culture. Some mock the culture on accident while others do so on purpose. Today, Native American culture is viewed as ancient but not well respected, runway designers had to discontinue creating outfits similar to that of native Americans because it was viewed as offensive and disrespecting of native american culture.
Hopi Cultural Ecology The Hopi tradition of Hopivotskwani is the core of their existence in the past and in the present. This is the “Hopi Path of Life”, and guides all aspects of daily life, not just religious thoughts or ceremonies. It acts to connect the people to nature. Corn is also a vital crop and symbol for the Hopi People.
