The Truth About Jesse James Have you ever heard of Jesse James and his gang of bank robbers that were one of the best and most precise banks and train robbery gangs in the 1860s-1870s. A vigilante is a self-appointed person who undertakes law enforcement without the legal authority of doing so, typically because they believe the authorities of the law are inadequate(Vigilante). Jesse James does not deserve the image of a vigilante that works outside of the law to serve and protect the people simply because he is a murderer and a thief. This is important nowadays because stories and myths like Jesse James could make a younger audience want to live like he did as a so-called vigilante but them not knowing what he was actually like.
According to Violence in America Throughout Jesse James life he killed dozens of innocent people in cold blood and stole/robbed hundreds of thousands of dollars from banks and trains. Despite Jesse doing all of these horrific things for some people, he was pictured as this vigilante type of figure for opposing the horrible banks and bad businessmen by stealing the money and giving it to the poor …show more content…

This comes back and supports the idea that Jesse James does not deserve his Robin Hood-like myth about him because Jesse was using the media to cover him in plain site and justify the action of the perpetrator as if it was not him so they the public would understand the supposable reason that he did something horrible unlike a real vigilante that undergoes the law to do
