70 years ago, life was completely different. Many of the items we can’t live without today, such as the Internet, cellphones and music players were only fiction back then. The separation of generations that occurred after the end of World War 2 resulted in young people becoming more and more independent, thus developing their own different ways of living and playing a larger role in the economy and trends. Because of that, many styles and products were brought out specifically for teenagers, providing daily changes and improvements to their lives. Most decoration items went through a “color explosion.” The furniture was bright and bold, with vibrant colors created to catch the eye of potential buyers. Bizarre inventions, some useful, some preposterous, were introduced every day. A large variety of novelty items gained popularity. Such were lava lamps - glass vessels filled with colorful floating blobs of wax, pet rocks - rocks that acted as the perfect “pet”, mood rings - rings that changed its color with the owner's mood, waterbeds - mattresses filled with water, and many others (Owenby). Clothing also underwent a lot of changes as new styles influenced by many different cultural aspects gained popularity. They were not specific to boys or girls and almost everything was unisex (Mathieson). The punk movement was one of the most noticeable changes in fashion. Heavily inspired by different singers and bands, it featured glamorous clothing with lots of glitter and colourful materials. Research Rough Draft: 1950’s In many ways 1950 was a year of big changes for America. 1950 was a year for perseverance for Americans, following World War II, society changed and advanced in many ways from major events, entertainment, and fashion. Before World War 2, everyone was focused on providing for the war effort and not worrying about their way of life. However in the late 1950’s “automobile production led the way, and home construction followed as new homes and suburbs were created to house demobilized soldiers who now had access to low-cost mortgages” (Everside 8).
Decade’s Impact On Our Society: 1950s The 1950s was a decade full of music and entertainment. Entertainers like Marilyn Monroe and types of music like jazz. Even kids are having fun playing with their newly made, Mr. Potato Head toys. So many new entertainers, musicians, and inventions are becoming such a huge hit.
There is no time in history quite like the “Roaring Twenties”. World War I had just ended, affecting every aspect of the daily lives of the American people. With the war ceasing to continue, the culture of the country changed completely, as people began to shift their focus to having a good time. For entertainment, people would go to the theatre, the movies, sports stadiums, and clubs where couples could dance the night away (Alchin). The 19th amendment, which was passed in the decade, gave the women the right to vote.
As the 18th century was coming to a close, women 's fashion took on some changes. In art and architecture, many things from ancient Greece had become fashionable and this had an effect on fashion too. Skirts became narrower and waists became higher. Gowns had less lace, frills, and ruffles. Some fashions in the early 1800 's made women look much like statues of Greek goddesses!

Before the 20s, social standards were strict, women were oppressed, expected to be dependent on their husband and expected to be the perfect wife, mom, and woman.
Equality according to the Webster’s New World Dictionary 4th Edition is defined as “1. Of the same quantity, size, value, etc. 2. Having the same rights, ability, rank, etc.” This was not implemented in America during the 1960s and 1930s. These decades are home to major historical events that are recorded in textbooks.
I can assume a common person in the 1960 would find information in a library. I think information literacy was despite the fact they did not have the technology like we have now days, it was something people would still have to learn to get accurate information. Newspapers, phone books, radio, library with tons of books and encyclopedias were also part of that era that started the necessity for inventors to create what we have today. Information literacy then and now I think it was the same practice just with the different tools.
With today’s American teens, the concept of social norms can be easily be pointed out. As social norms is an established manner of behavior maintained by a society, teens today can easily be argued to follow a manner of behavior, such as texting, taking selfies, and wearing the latest trends. The ,hipster, is unique to today’s American teens, an example of visual representation and a subculture. Even with our own personal experience and observations, most teens today represent the typical hipster. Skinny jeans, chunky glasses, and checkered or plain T-shirts, the American teen hipster is a recognizable figure in the modern U.S. As a subculture to today’s teens, the hipster movement brought about new styles of music and fashion.
The Vietnam War started in the late 60’s and continued into the early 70’s that's when the hippie movement also started. They valued peace, love, and freedom; The hippies and war protesters started the unisex movement which meant jeans, boots, shorts, and tank tops were worn by both genders. Fashion was a major influence in the United States. It helped people express their beliefs in a controlled manner and shaped the way for women’s rights.
