All across the U.S, kids are starting younger and younger to prepare for college. As far back as middle school or even elementary school is when some kids are starting to think and prepare for their future in college. Many people believe that you can never start too early to prepare for college. Others think that starting too young could burnout and tire the kids so much that they don 't want to go to college anymore. In my opinion, starting too early for college is not a good thing. First off, I have to say that I personally am not going to college right after high school. I decided to join the Army and actually joined a few months ago. So my experience with preparing for college is not going to be based upon my own experience, but rather with …show more content…
As I said, my opinion is starting too early for college is not a good thing. With the little college preparation that I did, it was already too much for me. My parents encouraged me throughout my entire school life to get good grades. I did my best to get the best grades I could, but it was very hard. It was too much to ask for; I was already burned out from only one preparation for college. That is why I joined the Army to avoid college and to go on an adventure. Even my recruiter for the Army pushed for me to go to college after my enlistment. He even enlisted me into the University of Wyoming roll for 2020 when my enlistment would end. From what I 've learned, college is so important to many people, but for some reason not for me. Without a college degree, many believe that you won 't be successful in life. In my opinion, you can still be successful without a college experience. My plan
According to the article Blending High School and College Can Sharpen the Focus of Each by Joel Vargas, it states that “early college experiences increase college success rates.” In other words, these early experiences allow a student to prepare for the challenges of college work while still having that support from their teachers and tutors. Throughout my high school career, I had the opportunity to take honors and Advanced Placement courses for the majority of my classes. The Advanced Placement courses allowed for a better understanding of the subject as well as providing the extensive work often similar to college classes. Learning the subjects from college in high school, such as English 101, even if not receiving the college credit for it, allowed for an understanding of the skills taught.
So, in conclusion, I do think that it is advantageous for some to skip college and get on with their lives. It may be risky, but it has clearly worked before. If one is willing to take the leap and trust in what they are capable of then why not? Skip the lecture halls and add your name to the
I lived a very rough life, and I think its never to late to start college. Patience is the key to success, and it will take you
Are too Many People Going to College? Author Charles Murry talks about those who are more likely to go to college and depending on the percentage scale who is more prepared for college and who is not prepared for college and when is the best time to teach kids core knowledge. Charles Murry states that,” Kindergarten through 8th grade re the years to teach the core knowledge, and the effort should get off to a running start in elementary school”(Murry, P.238). Murry also goes along to explain that based on the percentile you rank in determines your ability, academic and “college readiness”.
All your life you are told you need to go to college to be successful. In reality college is a chance to be successful but, doesn’t mean that you will be. In his article “Americas Most Overrated Product” Marty Nemko talks about college student statistics stating, "College is a wise choice for far fewer people than are currently encouraged to consider it” (527). Nemko states, “Among high school students who graduated in the bottom forty percent of their classed, and whose first institutions were four-year colleges, two thirds had not earned diplomas eight years later” (523). People who end up getting college diplomas hardly ever work in the career that they have a degree in, let alone can get jobs that require a degree.

The decision to attend college immediately after high school is one of the many challenges high schoolers face upon graduating. There are several reasons why that attending college promptly after graduation is a good idea. It is more beneficial than waiting because one will already have the drive to continue on with school rather than waiting, one will also graduate sooner which in turn will result in better job opportunities, and one is more likely to apply one’s high school knowledge. By attending college immediately after high school, one is more like to continue with one’s momentum. If one stops and waits to return to school, one would lose that drive to challenge that higher education.
Though there are many individuals who believe that college is not for everyone, attending college and getting a higher education can open the gates to many tremendous life changing opportunities such as becoming healthier, begin able to secure jobs, and earning more financially.
Many kids start to actively think about their future plans during high school and most will choose the safe option of college. College has been engrained into our society as an insurance policy to having a safe future in the long run. We are taught from an early age that we should go to college first, and then obtain a steady job. Then we can get married and start a family, where we will then
All through school growing up everyone is told go to college, get a degree, but is it necessary for someone to get a college education? It suggests in the article College Calculus by Cassidy that getting a degree is the key to human betterment and prosperity (Cassidy, 2015). Everyone wants to get a higher education to get a good job and to make money, but what if there was a way that you didn’t have to go? Most people don’t even end up working in the field of their degree, before you had to have a college degree to make it and to get a job but today not so much. The true question is in the field you plan on being in do you have to go to college for it?
Attending college right after high school or waiting to attend has no right or wrong answer. It would depend on the individual situation. It not only will have to do with some may not being academically prepared to attend college but not having the financial resources necessary to enroll. I went to college right away, my husband worked for about ten years out of high school before deciding to attend college. If you can transition well to a college environment right out of high school, then that might be the path for you.
If you didn’t do good in high school college doesn’t get much easier so you’re most likely not going to be successful. Unless you know for sure you’re ready for college you shouldn’t go straight into it. Freshmen go into college looking forward to the year, but 1 in every 3 does not return their second. Out of all the students that take remedial classes 75% will
Although college is stressful and time consuming , having your dream career, is a huge life achievement. Having a job isn’t the same as having a career “I've learned that making a 'living' is not the same thing as 'making a life”(Maya Angelou). If you sell yourself short by not going to college you’ll end up working just to make ends means not because it's what you enjoy doing, it's due to your family counting on it. Those who go to college will end up having a better future than those who don’t. I agree that going to college is more beneficial because my view on the topic states that in order to have a secure and clear future you must go to college.
Not going to college after high school sounds crazy, but a gap year, a year of break in between high school and college. Gap years are prominent in the United Kingdom, Europe, and Australia.
