Explain any special circumstances including sources of income or hardship that you believe are not reflected in your FAFSA. (159/250)
Even though I believe that my financial situation is accurately represented by the information provided in my FAFSA, paying for college is still an enormous hurtle considering students pay tens of thousands of dollars when earning their degrees. While my parents have planned ahead to be a major financial component in my education, scholarships and other sources of income will play an equally important role to pay for the long education process that lies behind earning a Ph.D. Not only have I been rigorously applying for scholarships over the course of my senior year, but I also have the option to use the skills I 've learned in high school to help finance my education by tutoring German and teaching Clarinet. Despite this, scholarships still play the most important role in financing my education because they offer me the immediate financial support needed to approach my

in Biochemistry. By seeking out a Ph.D., I plan to work towards employment involving research in the various fields of human health that also combine my academic interest in Biochemistry with my passion for plants. This presents me with two distinct opportunities. Not only could I work directly in the health field by working in pharmaceutical research and development, forty percent of which stems from compounds originally derived from plants, but also indirectly in the field of nutrition through the creation of agricultural practices and the development of genetically modified crops. Altogether, by preparing for professional paths that interest me both academically and branch into my avocational interests, I have developed an educational track that will ultimately transition into a life-long research career.
My most significant academic learning experience has been…
Being more open to interpretation and open to opinions, I realized throughout this course, what my true purpose in life was, leading a life that matters. We must not be powerless for we do not know what the future
For the last two years of my academic career at Kansas State University, I have been privileged and honored to receive the O’Brate Scholarship which has indubitably been a pivotal factor in making my college years both positive and successful. The financial security, network of support, and outreach the O’Brate Scholarship bestows unto its recipients such as myself, allows to direct more attention and effort into studies and other academic endeavors in addition to other college experiences which would otherwise would be limited. Furthermore, by budgeting my money on a month to month basis, I have become a more conscious and savvy consumer. Knowing where the money comes in from and where it goes helps maximize the potential of every dollar.
3. I am relying on scholarships. 4. I don’t want to be in debt the rest of my life paying back loans. No one wants to live like that.
I learned that hands on research is not as easy and clean cut as it seems on paper. What I mean by that is the many intermediate steps that one must go through in order to conduct good research. Furthermore, through time, my ability to ask more refined questions has been sharpened. My abilities to connect the dots have improved. Conducting graduate level research as an undergraduate has nourished my knowledge in ways I could not foresee.
Ever since I was seven, it has been my goal to attend college; now that goal will come true in only a few months at the University of Tulsa. While I did not know what I wanted to study then, I developed a passionate curiosity that has allowed me to succeed in school because it gave me a love for learning that continues today. Since then, I have become a dedicated student who is still constantly questioning everything, which has encouraged me to pursue a career as a neuroscientist. My career goal is to get a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry with a minor in neuroscience from the University of Tulsa and then to earn a Ph.D. in neuroscience to conduct research.
My family is still not financially secure and never saved any money to put towards my college education. Neither my mother, father, or stepmother are willing, nor able, to contribute to my college education at all. Unfortunately, I will be paying for college by myself. However, I am very grateful that the University of Tulsa has generously awarded enough money in scholarships to cover my tuition, but I am lacking funds to cover room and board. I am working hard to achieve my goal of moving out of my household to be in a stress-free environment for my four years of college.
The knowledge that I gained in those course I used in order to teach others at my parents church. I thought passages of the Bible in a philosophical manner to my students for over two years. I had a small class of 10 students. It made me really proud that one of the young boys there once told me, “I want to become a philosopher.”
However, the most important thing I learned was the differences between theory and practical application that I found out during these interships. Hence, combining theory with practice deeped my understanding of textbook knowledge as well as enriched my hands-on

Equally important, some scholarships are based on race and social factors, however, these do not put a barrier or separate one group from having different financial challenges than the others. As prices continue to rise year to year, the majority of college students are faced with no solutions to the universally wretched financial
