Atlantis is a island that has a powerful advanced kingdom, that took a day and night to sink. They believe that it sank into the ocean during 9,000 B.C. Now we will talk about how this island even became existing, where it is located, and what is this so called island? How did they discover this island was existing at one point? There are a couple different theories on how the island came about. Ballard says, the legend of Atlantis is the only logical reason this island is gone. Some proof is cataclysmic floods and volcanic explosions have happened throughout history, including one event that had some similarities to the story of the loss of Atlantis. About 3,600 years ago, a gigantic volcanic eruption ruined the island of Santorini in the …show more content…
They have many different stories on where it was located. It could have been off the coast of Spain, under what is now Antarctica, or even in the Mediterranean. Some believe that is is where the bahamas are now. The lost city of Atlantis may be at the very bottom in the Mediterranean sea. The American architect Robert Sermast, data obtained from the bottom of the Cryprus Basin has lots features that are like the structures according to him, they are man made structures located under the sea of 1500 meters. He says that these buildings are actually ancient buildings that were part of the mighty Atlantean civilization described by Plato. A former island that is under water in the main part of Gibraltar that is known as Spartel Bank has been proposed as the location of Atlantis by many authors. Researchers claim that during the most recent Glacial Maximum of the Ice Age sea level was 135 meters below its current level, making the Gibraltar Strait more narrow and creating a small half-enclosed sea measuring 70 km by 20 km between the Mediterranean and Atlantic Ocean. According to writers the Spartel Bank formed an archipelago of smaller islands that fit the description of Plato’s Atlantis. The sea level rising caused the island to give in and eventually sink. Some scholars also say it is possible that a great earthquake and tsunami brought this islands to its knees and made it sink. Collina-Girard says that the disappearance of this so called
His way of doing this was he began by giving the reader a description of the island in a geographical way. Although in the book he does not provide a topical map for us to reflect on, he instead gives us an image of the first map that was ever documented of the island. He then tries to portray a picture showing how the island was initially formed, as well as how the very first explorers and Native Americans that founded the island may have seen it through their eyes. The way that McComb decided to do this in his book to me was an appropriate technique since McComb said that a shipwrecked Spaniards were some of the first individual to acquire the island.
Many people wonder what happened to the islanders and wonder why they disappeared. Easter Island is famous for its many large statues which were carved of stone and dragged half way across the island to be placed. But to move the stones, the people had to cut down palm trees which eventually caused the island to be stripped of its trees population and caused the animals to migrate and find other food sources. When the animals migrated it caused the islanders population to collapse due to wars and starvation which lead to cannibalism among the people. Although the island had went through an ecological disaster in the early 1600’s, the people were able to restore the stability of the island and they lived relatively well until the late 1600’s.

I totally agreed with you. I too don't think Columbus Day should be a celebration of Columbus victory in discovering America. However, I do think we should keep the holiday and make it a day to grief for the lives lost from Columbus' violence and greed. I don't think Americans repay the Indians enough after putting them through such horror and genocide. Instead, we hurt them even more by naming a Holiday after their murder.
No one could explain what really happen to the settlement, this is why today it remains a mysteries. For centuries, the Lost Colony of Roanoke Island has been a controversial issue. Many theories exist that explain the disappearance of the colony. Some theories suggest that the colonists left the island to live with friendly neighboring Indians. Others suggest that a hurricane wiped out the colony or that the native tribe killed them.
