They saw her name in a newspaper and did some research and found out more about her. She was forgotten for 60 years. So the Kansas girls made a trip overdown to Warsaw, Poland using money from selling candy bars. They found out a lot about her and the things she did. Irena Sendler and what she did in World War II to begin, Irena joined the force called the Zogota. They saved 2,500 children by smuggling them and saving them from ghettos and Poland. herself saved 400 children. The Germans were on to her and her activities so they arrested her and tortured her but she wouldn't say anything to them. When it came to her execution day her team bribed the guards to open the gate and let her escape, after she escaped she kept saving children (Editors, The famous people.com). World War II was a traumatic event in the world and it affected so many people, mostly Jews. Even though that was happening Irena Sendler was there helping and saving children and putting herself at risk. Irena Sendler was forgotten for 60 years.
