After reading multiple articles, it is evident that social media is advancing society. The pros and cons of social media have been being debated for many years, but it is clear that social media is helping society. In the articles the authors prove in what ways social media is advancing society in many ways. The two ways the authors proved social media is advancing society is through support and self-esteem boost. One of the ways social media is advancing society is by giving people support. In the article “Studies Offer Mixed Messages on Social Media’s Effect on Young People” the author writes, “It can help them find social support when they are struggling with life issues, and it can provide them with a place where they can express themselves” …show more content…

The article “Studies Offer Mixed Messages on Social Media’s Effect on Young People” says, “Studies have shown the around-the-clock world of social media takes a mental and emotional toll on some young people” (NewsELA, paragraph 5). This shows that social media can take a toll on some young people. This is a reason why some people believe that social media is not advancing society. Another example of why some believe social media is not advancing society is also in the article, “Studies Offer Mixed Messages on Social Media’s Effect on Young People” this example reads, “Teenagers are already self-conscious and easily affected by what others say, said Dr. Pate. They might start comparing their lives to those of people on social media” (NewsELA, paragraph 11). This says that teens may be affected by what other people say to them on social media. This is another reason why some believe social media is not advancing society. Even though some studies show that social media may not be advancing society, some studies say that information may be incorrect, in the article “Studies Offer Mixed Messages on Social Media’s Effect on Young People” states, “She said the survey by Royal Society for Public Health doesn’t show that the social media causes anxiety and other issues. It didn’t ask whether the teenagers had mental problems or if those problems could be linked to something else” (NewsELA, paragraph 15). This goes back to prove that social media is advancing
