Should we explore space?
Do you ever wonder what it would be like to explore space? According to Maryanne Coronna, the author of “Leaving Main Street'', “Humans explore space because it’s in our genes''. Humans just want to explore and that is what Americans do. This is the big question: “Is space exploration worth it, is it worth the money?” People should spend money on space exploration, because humans are naturally curious and the cost for space travel is only a small fraction of the government's budget.
To begin with, the cost for space exploration is only a small fraction of the government’s budget so why worry if space exploration is too expensive? As Maryanne Coronna stated in “Leaving Main Street'', “At a cost of six-tenths of a percent of the federal budget it’s well worth the price.” Nobody should be stressing about money for space exploration when the government can pay for it and still have enough money for other things like preserving Earth. Maryanne also stated “ If we stop exploring space, soon society will have forgotten what it’s like to be human.” Humans need space because they explore that’s what they do. The whole exploring space is a key moment in human life and if the government stops letting people explore they don’t get an

Maryanne states that “ Humans explore space because it’s in our genes''. That statement shows what humans do so why take it away when humans love exploring. The passage “Leaving Main Street” also states that a lot of people remember wanting to know what was “over there”. This confirms that we shouldn’t stop exploring space because there are a lot of people who want to know what is out in space. This evidence shows that there are people who are curious about space and want to explore, so why take it
In the article, “Should We Cut NASA Funding?” written by Keith Yost, he answers the questions that have been the topic of debate for over 20 years. He states that it is predicted that in the Florida conference, President Obama will talk about the reductions that will be made to NASA’s budget. In his article, Yost takes a clear position on the
The oration was momentary; it only lasted for a little more than four minutes and added up to just 650 words in total. Nevertheless, it was concise and efficient in serving its purpose. Through the brief speech, Reagan not only alleviated the despair suffered by the different groups of audience, but also retained the nation’s spirit in space exploration: “We mourn their loss as a nation together…I’ve always had great faith in and respect for our space program, and what happened today does nothing to diminish it.” As the top leader of the country, Mr. Reagan demonstrated his support for more research and discovery, and were trying to convince the rest of the American population to do the same.
This use of pathos reinforces the idea that space exploration represents a grand adventure and an opportunity for discovery, tapping into the audience's sense of wonder and curiosity. Finally, JFK appeals to their concern for the future of humanity, stating, "For the eyes of the world now look into space, to the moon and to the planets beyond, and we have vowed that we shall not see it governed by a hostile flag of conquest, but by a banner of freedom and peace." (Kennedy, 1962).
The reason that the Space Race is so important is that without the Space Race, the United States and other countries included would not have the knowledge we have knowledge of space and the planet that humans live on without the inventions of the Space Race the world would not have many things that we depend on daily. The outcomes of the space race have led scientists to finally reach out and explore other planets in our solar system and even farther. One people can learn from the Space Race is to be peaceful in times of scientific exploration and turning points but that rivaling countries should come together and work with one another instead of trying to show up to one
Also according to “Future of Space”, certain humanitarian needs have to be met on Earth, once they have been met this leads to more technology advantages and opportunities that can really benefit space exploration in the future. Americans should take the time to explore space because it’s not too expensive and it creates more and more technology advantages. One reason why Americans should explore space is that humans are naturally curious and competitive and want to explore beyond the Earth. According to “Leaving Main Street”, it states that if they take away space exploration society, will have forgotten what it’s like to be a human.
One reason is that money in space should be spent on preserving Earth. From, Mars as a Backup Planet, Lucianne Walkoowicz says, “at the same time as we’re discovering this treasure trove of potentially habitable worlds, our own planet is sagging under the weight of humanity.” It’s important to notice that the author thinks that our Earth is dying and by the
Later in his speech, Reagan addresses future plans of the space program, and expresses that although the events that had occurred were tragic, it would not be a setback in vain. “We'll continue our quest in space. There will be more shuttle flights and more shuttle crews and, yes, more volunteers, more civilians, more teachers in space. Nothing ends here; our hopes and our journeys continue” (Reagan). In saying this, Reagan is informing his audience that the space program would continue to operate and push the boundaries of technology.
In the text “Leaving Main Street” the author suggests that “Humans explore space because it’s in our genes. ”(121) The author believes we are drawn to exploring space, and we shouldn’t suppress our feelings to do so. The author again states another valid point by saying, “If we stop exploring space, soon society will have forgotten what it’s like to be human.” (121)
According to the text “Leaving Main Street”, “If we stop exploring space, soon society will have forgotten what it’s like to be human.” (Leaving Main Street, 121). This expresses the idea that we need to explore space, if we stop then we will have forgotten ourselves, and we will have forgotten how to be adventurous. In addition to that, the author of “Packing for Mars”, Mary Roach, states “What’s different? Sweat, risk, uncertainty, inconvenience.
Should we spend taxpayer money to invest in the space program? The space program is a program to pioneer the future in space exploration. The program has consumed about 18.4 billion dollars on trying to explore the barren and empty place they call space. This money that 's used on this space exploration comes from our taxpayers.
Colonizing Mars Mars is often voted by people as being the most likely place for humans to colonize after we are done with Earth. This is often said because of Mars’s similar size to Earth and similar climate. However, Mars might not be the best place to go when we decide to make our first extra-terrestrial home. Whether you believe we should colonize another planet or not, evidence proves that moving to Venus is both logical and cost effective. There is much more promise in visiting Venus and much more we can learn.
Benefits of Humanity Expanding to Mars Tom Clancy, an American novelist, once said,“We cannot fail to win unless we fail to try.” This statement is completely true. We have to try to do something before we can fail. An example of this is traveling to Mars. Since the first humans traveled into space, humans have wanted to travel to the planet Mars.
Is Space Exploration Worth it? Do you want to stay here forever? The question of space exploration has lingered inside everyone’s mind since the Space Race and humans looked to the stars. Humankind exploring our interstellar neighborhood in inevitable and beneficial.
Not only does NASA benefit society through new energy and life saving technology but psychologically as well. The most important product that NASA produces is inspiration. Going places where no man has gone before brings inspiration to the country and the youth. “It inspires people to become scientists and engineers and they are the people who enable tomorrow to exist today” - Neil Degrasse Tyson. A whole new culture is brought forth through NASA a whole new educational surge.
Space colonization has been a goal of many scientists for a number of years. The movie Serenity is about a time where the earth became overcrowded and people began to live on other planets. The government does experiments trying to turn people into a sort of weapon. The film follows a ship with a group of smugglers on it that work to avoid the government until they discover a horrible secret. The film Serenity makes use of the science-fiction element of galactic government control throughout the movie in order to present a view on today’s government control.
