The three people I am writing about are James Craig Anderson, Johnny Lee Butts, & Emmett Till. James Craig Anderson was murdered in a hate crime. Johnny Lee Butts was killed in a hate crime also & was also ran over. Emmett Till was killed for flirting with a white woman. James Craig Anderson was a 49 year old African American who was murdered in a hate crime in Jackson Mississippi In 2011. He was killed by a 18 year boy named Deryl Dedmon who ran him over with a pickup truck. Before James was killed he was robbed and repeatedly beaten by a group of white teenagers, including Dedmon and his friends. But prosecutors was saying that James Craig Anderson was near his truck in the parking lot at the Metro Inn in Jackson at 5 am. Two vehicles with the young white teens pulled off the freeway and into the motel parking lot. The teens claimed that they believed that James was trying to steal a Car because they saw him trying to break into one. But the car James was trying to get in was his car, he had lost his keys. The group of teens got out the car & beat James and robbed him. …show more content…

Around 7:00, there were 3 teens in a white Monte Carlo they have been drinking vodka & smoking a lot of marijuana. Matthew Whitten was driving & he spotted Johnny on the opposite side of the road. One of the unknown teens said that the driver turned his steering wheel & the car went in the direction Johnny was walking. The car got close & hit Johnny knocking him all the way in air. The Monte Carlo was traveling about 55 to 70 mph. His body was found 172 feet away from where he was hit. The teen who was driving stopped the car got out & looked at Johnny Butts body, then got back in the car & sped off. Later that day, the two teen passengers turned themselves in to police. Darby was arrested, telling police exactly what the two other teens said he would say, that he hit a deer. Darby denied he was drinking or smoking
