Owens achieved international fame at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, winning gold medals and defying Nazi leader Adolf Hitler 's contentions of white supremacy. Jesse was born September 12, 1913 in Oakville, Alabama. He became famous for setting new records hurdles, long jump, and sprints. Owens changed track for black people and was determined to be the best so other black children they could do the same if they put their heart into it.
