John Adams, Jr. Was the second President of the United States (1797-1801) after serving as the first vice president (1789-1797) under George Washington. Along with his presidential positions, Adams was also a diplomat, statesman, lawyer, author, and delegate to the Continental Congress. He was a leader in the age of American independence, promoting a strong central government. Adams assisted Jefferson in drafting the Declaration of Independence and played a key role in persuading Congress to declare independence from Britain. John Adams was not a very liked president because Washington set the bar for the presidency pretty high. Adams was not a liked president for many reasons like the trouble with french, including setting off the XYZ affair, signing Jay’s Treaty, and sending the war fever through the United States, and one of the other reasons why Adams was not liked was the Alien and Sedition acts which violated the state's rights. Both of Samuel's parents were strong puritans. His mom supported Calvinism and his dad was a deacon of the Congregational Church.

She campaigned for women’s right to education and the ability to fulfill one’s position as a wife and mother while being equal to their husbands within the marriage. Abigail Adams and John Adams exchanged roughly 1,100 letters between them. These letters contained information about his wellbeing, and while he was in Europe with his sons, their wellbeing as well. However, Abigail wrote to John discussing that he should “remember the ladies” (p. 48).
When the year of 1807 came around, the way that America elected a president changed. In previous elections, only the rich men were able to vote which as a result whoever promised more the wealth was elected for president. When the common man was able to vote in 1807, the type of candidate to win the election change. As seen in the election of 1828 the person who was more relatable to the people, won because the common man was able to vote and so they used that opportunity and elected whoever they thought was going to help them. Overall the people preferred Jackson over Adams because Jackson was able to relate to the people better, and because he was a symbol of the American dream.
He went through several challenges during his term, including the Jay Treaty, XYZ Affair, and the Quasi War. These three challenges exposed several roles he had to use during his presidency, mostly foreign policy maker and commander in chief. He used foreign policy maker by creating and dealing with several treaties with the French, as well as doing negotiations. And he used commander in chief by building up our Navy, and eventually going into a naval war with the French. John Adam’s presidency greatly impacted several moments after, including the Louisiana Purchase.
