Your honor and fellow jury members, we are all here today to examine the murder of Bob Sheldon, and determine whether or not Johnny Cade is guilty with murdering Bob Seldon and should be charged with second degree murder. Me and my associates are certain that Johnny Cade should be sentenced to a 10-25 year sentence based on the evidence and circumstances. One reason we believe this is because of the threatening words that were exchanged before the fight erupted. Bob said several things that appointed him the “boss” or really just who was in charge including “Give the kid a bath David.”(pg.55) This piece of evidence shows that Bob is the leader of their group because he gave David an order. This shows that if you kill Bob, the others will scatter or freak. Therefore, he killed Bob on purpose and with intent. Another valid point on why Johnny Cade should be charged with second degree murder is because of what Johnny said to Ponyboy Curtis, one of his closest friends, soon after the incident “I had to. They were drowning you, Pony. They might have killed you. And they had a blade… they were gonna beat me up…”(pg.57) This shows that Johnny was trying to kill Bob in order to save …show more content…

He said. ““He would kill the next person who jumped him. Nobody was ever going to beat him like that again. Not over his dead body…”(pg. 34) Ponyboy’s talking about a time when Johnny got a little beat up by some “rival gang members.” This is no reason to kill another young man no matter the circumstances. This is just a cruel act by Johnny Cade by murdering Bob Sheldon and another fantastic example on why Johnny Cade should be charged with second degree
