In certain culture, there are specific scripts on how male and female should and
should not act and feel. These scripts may seem traditional but if we analyse our
daily lives, we are actually subconsciously still practicing it and in my opinion,
these scripts are usually negative. Here are some of the male sexual scripts that I
am familiar with.
The first one is how men are always suppose to be the family leader. Why? I
mean yes , they are strong physically and they find money to make a living but
women can do that too. In fact, woman usually tend to manage the household
most of the time as in managing the kids , their time , their meal , housing
supplies and all those. So why are men still suppose to be the family leader? Just

Women can make as much money too. On the
other hand, the most common female sexual script that we are familiar with is
women are not suppose to further their education. They are usually asked to be a
good wife by staying at home and taking care of the children and cook for the
husband. Rationally speaking, educated women can do all that too. Plus
Prestigious professions were given to men, and even laws were lenient towards supporting men over women. Although the past was much worse for women, they are still somewhat living behind the glorified lives of
Sometimes, women are not given the chance to make more money because employers think that men are stronger, smarter, or more experienced or skilled (Gender Differences 84). This obviously means that women do not get a fair chance to get higher paying jobs in some cases. However, women know how to fight and try to make things right. An example of this is in the article “Understanding the ‘‘Family Gap’’ in Pay for Women with Children”. Jane Waldfogel states that if women had “not increased their investments in education and experience, the gender pay gap would have widened in the 1980s simply due to the changes in the overall wage structure” (140).
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that single women who have never married earned 96 percent of men's earnings in 2012. When children comes into the picture, women tend to spend less time at work than men, furthermore, child care takes mothers out of the labor market, so when they return they have less work experience than similarly-aged males. Education also affects the wage gap. According to research studies, even within groups with the same educational attainment, women often choose fields of study, such as sociology, liberal arts or psychology, that pay less in the labor market. Men are more likely to major in finance, accounting or engineering.
Even if they are bringing in money, they are expected to still provide care to their family. Men do not involve themselves with taking care of the family because it is so strongly ingrained in the culture that that is a women’s duty. Women are often viewed as weak and needed protection, while men are looked at as dominant and strong. Men are brought up by society to have a mindset of Machismo, which essentially means to be
Women were always seen as housewives and caregivers, but women wanted more opportunities than being a wife. They wanted higher education in order to pursue a higher career that was only supposed to only be meant for men. They wanted equality in the workplace and that includes the paycheck. Men were usually paid more and still till this day. It does not matter if both sexes share the same job, men were paid more than women.
This is why women were believed to be unequal to men. Outside sources say that women were mostly free to do what they wanted until they got married. Unmarried women and widows were allowed to get jobs that didn’t need degrees in. Most women were expected to get married at younger ages. Those who didn’t get married went to work on farms or in people’s houses.
They are the ones that support their families while women are the caregivers and the nurturers and handling the household. According to Emily Kane in “Glamour Babies” and “Little Toughies”, “gender is not a straightforward amplification of underling biological differences between male and females; rather, gender is constructed through social processes and enforced through social mechanisms.” With that being said Kane feels that we should not limit ourselves to those preconceived notions of what men and women can do. According to Kane, we should not believe that men and women could not develop certain mental or psychological attributes merely because of their sex.
Male tends to make more than female because of a simple fact they are male. A counterpart female will make 35% less then what male were paid in the same field with exact same background and experience (Louis). This occurs in even in occupation where female dominates such as nursing. When thinking of nursing automatically you think of a female with a scrub on and typically this is correct because female tends outshine male in health industry. But even against these odds male in nursing typically make $5,000-%10,000 more than their counter part female
In the meantime, as plebeian women worked, rich women did nothing and lived comfortably. On the other hand, men received higher education opportunities and high paying employment. Some women who received higher education were usually directly involved with political affairs but they were still subjected to
Men believed women did not need an education because women were to work at home and tend to the children. Wives of the wealthy had very different lives
In almost every society, women and men should each have different and their own job according to their gender. Men should be the one doing the hard works and women will have to support him. This is not always true, men can be supporting women in a way that people don't see it like
The more money that women make, the more respect they will get. Once people begin the first few steps to equality, they will no longer question “What happens when they have equal pay?” Once women are paid fairly they could get better opportunities. The founding fathers believed that all men are created equal so why shouldn’t females have equality. Subsequently, people will treat you at the same level as men.
Stereotypes are a major conflict in today's society also. Today the majority of women are paid less than men. With the exception of Calpurnia, and Miss Caroline the women in To Kill a Mockingbird do not get paid. All women who work today are paid, but not as much as men. Men rank themselves higher than women, and they think they're better: "You just hold your head high and be a gentlemen."
It is proven that gender does contribute to a difference in wages in society and there for another cause of wealth inequality. The U.N. has found that gender discrimination is still a significant factor in holding many women and children around the world in poverty. In many countries, there is a gender income gap in the labor market. For example, in America, statistics show that “The median full-time salary for women is 78 percent of that of men”; despite the fact women make up half the workforce. One of the reasons women earn less income/money in their lifetime is usually because they are single mums and/or have more people/family to support on their
Families have been around since the beginning of time for the sole reason of procreation. People were reproducing in order to carry on the lineage and to carry on a name. the family is an ideal example of gender inequality. In the centuries that have
