In 1968 Dr. King wife, Mrs. Coretta Scott King, officially founded the Martin Luther King Jr. center for nonviolent social change, which she dedicated to being a living memorial aimed at continuing Dr. King’s work on important social skills around the word. Dr. King had come to Memphis TN in 1968 to support the strike of the city’s black garbage workers, and in a speech on the night before his assassination, he told an audience at mason temple church; like anybody, I would like to live a long life. Longevity has its place; Dr. King was not concerned about that now. I’ve seen the Promised Land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people, will get to the Promised Land. And I’m happy tonight, I’m not worried about anything, I do not fear any man, and mines eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord. “I have a dream, that one day my four little children will live in a nation, where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.” These words were spoken on August 28 1963 by a man named Martin Luther King, who was a huge leader of the U.S civil rights movement. Martin Luther King believed in equal rights for white and colored people. He also believed that nonviolent protests were the most effective way to change the attitudes of racist and unjust people. Earlier in that year on April 16, Martin Luther King wrote a letter from the Birmingham Jail addressed to many different church leaders.
Martin Luther King, Jr. is perhaps the most visible spokesperson and leader in the civil rights movement. He is famous for writing his “I Have A Dream” speech and his “Letter From Birmingham Jail.” Dr. King is known as a very high-minded speaker who avoids violence when making his argument. His work can be defined as a nonviolent protest. His “I Have A Dream” speech and “Letter From Birmingham Jail” are loaded with language that does not have a negative, violent-sounding undertone, but rather a passionate one.
He saw the good in everyone and believed all the promises the clergymen and government made to him. But as we read in the letter we see how it was never true, he says “we were the victims of a broken promise.” (King 265) Dr.King was referring to the fact that the United States government had failed to deliver on its promises of equality and justice for African Americans. African Americans continued to face discrimination, segregation, and violence despite the promises made in the Emancipation Proclamation and Constitution. “When he died, I think something died in all of us. Something died in America. Each day I think we must find a way, to dream the dream that he dreamed. And build on what he left all of us” (John Lewis). Dr king, a man with a dream that the heat of oppression will transform into an oasis of freedom and justice.
Through peaceful demonstration, King tried to bring change in the society. In the past, colored people have waited for more than 340 years to declare their freedom, said King. Martin Luther King’s desire is to see all human kinds to be respect and love one another. The segregation create huge wall between colored and other people so he wants to narrow the gap. When colored people wants to go the hotel or other places, the owners wouldn’t allow them to enter into their premises so he wants the next generation entitled to work, go to school, or to do anything equally with white people.
King. This march at the capitol was where King took the opportunity to present his infamous ‘I Have a Dream’ speech in front of a crowd of more than 250,000 people. The entirety of the speech is meaningful and useful to civil rights during the movement and today. King relayed to the audience, “I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed; we hold these truths to be self-evident; that all men are created equal. I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character” (King).
In the 1950’s and 60’s, the African American Civil Rights movement occurred. There were many leaders and pioneers of the movement, one of those leaders was Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., some referred to him as Doc, Dr. King, Rev., and many more. Reverend King was one of many core leaders of this movement to break through racial segregation. There was Rosa Parks (Activist), James Baldwin (Writer), Nina Simone (Singer) , Jackie Robinson (Baseball Player) and even Muhammad Ali (Boxer) who have made somewhat of a change. In light of the fact of this movement, Dr. King had more than enough courage to express through his platform of “I Have a Dream”, “I’ve Been To The Mountaintop”, and “The American Dream”.

For example, he showed his faith in many ways. For instance, King was “arrested, defamed and his house was bombed, but he still preached nonviolence in Montgomery city”(Contemporary). However, the black community won because “The Supreme Court” (Commire) changed the laws.
One of Michael King Sr. and Alberta Williams King’s child was Martin Luther King Jr on January 15, 1929. His usual name was Michael King Jr. He had an older sister, Willie Christine, and a younger brother, Alfred Daniel Williams King. They grew up in a secure and loving environment. Their father fought against racial prejudice because he considered racism and segregation to be an insult to God’s will.
King preached hope, but he was assassinated soon after his popular speech, his children never lived the life they deserve, and neither do his great grandchildren. Hope is insubstantial with attendant action. People should not forget the fire that was beneath them when they first discovered the horrible conditions African-Americans lived with during the time of Martin Luther King, Jr., or of the situation of African-Americans in the ghetto today. Martin Luther King Jr. held a very strong tone throughout his leadership. The man knew how to convey a sense of determination and strength within his writing. King’s speech, “I Have a Dream,” contains a paragraph that reveals a powerful sense of leadership which King was, and is still known for. This sense of leadership can be a difficult idea to interpret due to the immaculate passion King had toward the events taking place during that challenging time. King was warning the nation that there would not be peace until the “Negros” were officially granted their rights as citizens of the United States of America.

His speeches enlightened and inspired people to the point of action. As a skilled rhetorician was able to establish credibility with his audiences by integrating familiar works into his speeches. He knew how to create well written speeches while still speaking from his heart and delivering his message with passion.
Many former leaders strived for peace and equality for humankind. They all knew how important it is to remember that many faces live in one community. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was one of these leaders. He was an inspiring person, because he yearned for peaceful change, fought for equality, and showed the example of being patient and brave. Martin Luther King Jr. Facts Martin Luther King Jr. was born in 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia. King, a Baptist minister and civil-rights activist, had a seismic impact on race relations in the United States, beginning in the mid-1950s. Among his many efforts, King headed the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. Through his activism and inspirational speeches he played a pivotal role in ending the legal segregation of African-American citizens in the United States, as well as the creation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
