Most people that migrated to the United States from Mexico came to this country so they could have a better life for them and their family. In most occasions people came to the United States of America because of financial problems or to escape from violence. People first started migrating from Mexico to the United States in the early 2oth century. They started migrating at first in very large amounts and the reason why for this great migration as it was known was due to the large amount of labor demands in the United States. The U.S. had a really good economy so as a result that brought a large increase in Mexican immigration rates. They also came around that time period because there was a revolution going on around that time so people wanted …show more content…
They told me that it was really hard to communicate with people that spoke English because they didn’t know not even a little of English. They never learned English in Mexico because my dad went only as far as second grade and then he stopped going to school because my grandma told him that it would be better if you just started working. And he did, he would sell bread around his little town. It’s not a coincidence that he now works in a baking factory my mom also dropped out from school to work also. So they never learned English. Luckily for them that they came to a place where there was a lot of immigrants that spoke Spanish only so it wasn’t hard for them to communicate with them. Until this day they still don’t know English at all. I asked them how come they didn’t try to learn and they told me that what would be the point if we don’t need to know …show more content…
My mom told me that of course she missed Mexico. She told me that the only reason she left was because she knew that raising a family in the United States would be a lot better and easier. She told me that the most she missed was her parents and brothers and sisters. She missed them the most and she didn’t even get the chance to see her mom and dad one more time because they both died not so long ago. She wanted to see them so bad but she knew that if she left back to Mexico, she would not have the chance to return to the U.S. Sadly that’s how it is for most Immigrants that live in this country, they know that if they leave, they cannot return back to their home country. I just can’t imagine how my mom felt when this happened to her. She also misses her “rancho”. She misses riding the horses that my grandparents had. My dad also misses Mexico but he said that they made the right choice to come here because this is the best country to live in the whole
I am Puertican and Cuban, but I never got the chance to learn about my culture or how to speak Spanish. This is because my mom only learned some Spanish but she never learned about our culture. She didn’t because her grandmother wasn’t fond of her dad, so she was never accepted on her mom's side of the family. Even today my mom is sad she never got to bond with her mom's family and wishes she could have had the ability to learn and embrace her family's culture. Unfortunately, many people go through this but more often than not their not being accepted in the U.S. because they don’t speak English.
Did the benefits of the immigration boom in the late 1800s outweigh the drawbacks? During the 1800s, many people migrated to urban areas because they wanted jobs and land. Many people thought that migrating to urban areas would be like a perfect dream, however they were disappointed when they realized that the benefits of migration did not outweigh the drawbacks. During the late 1800s, millions of immigrants were coming to the United States. Most of the immigrants came from Europe.
Takaki states the Mexicans “great migration to El Norte after 1900 was an extension of population movement already under way within Mexico.” (312) This was caused by the aftermath of civil war within Mexico’s borders. This war lead to countless people suffering political persecution, loss of their homes and possessions, as well as financial instability, which caused many Mexicans to lose hope in their homeland. Due to this many people fled from Mexico after the Mexican revolution causing a massive wave of immigration into the United States.
When I was ten years old my family decided that we leave to California. That California was where there was money at least that was what everyone says. In Mexico there wasn't enough money. My family was really poor that they didn't have enough money to feed me and my brother. Julion my brother was tired of living this life he always complained because he wanted to have things other boys did.
Hispanic Immigrants are leaving Mexico because their economy is not good, the crime rate is very high, and jobs are hard to find. America has freedom and that gives them hope for a new life. Also Immigrants are trying to evacuate from poverty, and violence. Their life in their homeland is hard.
My family is one who has always loved this country. The history, the pride, and the freedom all come together to create a beautiful home. The
Chaya, The number of immigrants spiked during this time. Some immigrants came to have a better life and some immigrants came to America seeking refuge. In the course book on page 612, it mentions how in 1888, more than half a million Europeans landed in America. New York City accounted for 75 percent of them.
The first few years of my life I spoke little to no English, because at home my parents only spoke their native language, Burmese. Once I started preschool, my eyes were exposed to a whole different world from the secluded apartment I was living in from the time I came to America. My parents were traditional people and didn’t stray into the “American Lifestyle” until a few years down the road. My parents were strict and used harsh PUNISHMENTS on me at a young age. They knew the only way to survive was a good education, something that they were unable to acquire in their home country.
A major continuity over time will always be shown in the world, even if an event took place years ago. In this standard many dates and time periods were stated. Wars broke out, new presidents took the stand, and a handful of laws were brought into place but were changed as time moved on. Even though these events were dated so long ago, they played a major role in the shaping of our nation. With the past events that occurred, these events are still practiced and used today.
The reason for Mexican migration is economic opportunities, people trying to work hard and create a better life for their families. Employment creates empowerment, especially for women who would normally be financially dependent on their husbands. The United States has greater opportunities for employment especially for women. They are able to contribute financially to the family, which gives them more control over making decisions for the family. Migrant women are twice as likely to find jobs in the United States as they would have in Mexico.
The first time where there was a noticeably large amount of immigrants originating from Mexico coming to US started once the government put a strict restriction on japanese immigrants in 1907. Entering World War I, the United States relied on Mexican laborers due to the fact that American workers were issued to fight in the war. After the war was when Border Control was created because of the increase of nativism and the desire to minimize the amount of mexican immigrants coming through. “ But economic demand for unskilled migrant workers continued throughout the Roaring Twenties, encouraging Mexican immigrants to cross the border—legally or not” ( Harvard Magazine). During the great depression many mexican immigrants were deported, they were
There were no schools for the children. Because of the occupations most of the immigrants had and their financial situation, their social status seemed to remain fixed. It was hardly the American dream they had previously hoped for. The Mexican migration to America, although great, would later bring on much disappointment to those who decided to come to America.
I also want to experience the different culture that Mexico has to offer. I want to experience everything from the food to the music. Another reason I have always dreamed about going to Mexico is to escape
Immigration to America had its benefits and downside. America was the place to go in the 19th century people all around the world immigrated to the US. The US needed rules and regulations on entering the country due to types of things that were happening in Document 2. The positives of immigrating to the US was too good to pass up.
Most of the people in America, especially the immigrant who cannot speak English language to perfection, doesn’t mean that they are not educated or they never went school in their life. Tan and I both came from different background and language is a big thing our families. Raising by immigrant parents who speaks English language poorly is a challenging thing I face, such as translating between languages and also being able to express yourself.
