The Monroe Doctrine was an expression of nationalism as it declared the United States’s intention to stay out of European affairs and it forced Europe to not interfere in the Americas. Firstly, the United States declared it would stay out of European affairs, wars, and conflicts, signaling an inward focus. However, the United States also threatened Europe when it declared it would go to war in case any European nation attempted further colonization or interference in the Western hemisphere. Metaphorically speaking, the US built a wall between the Americas and Europe, impeding any military or political interference. Even though the US did not have the power to enforce this at the time, it was carving its path to dominate nations in Latin America
The Monroe Doctrine was created and claimed that it was to protect all Latin American Countries from European intervention. The Monroe Doctrine was not designed to protect the Latin American countries from European intervention but for the benefits that came with creating it. The men who created the document were all interested in the presidential election. They wanted to have as many people as possible to be in their favor so they could win the election. For example, Adams was the only candidate who was not a slaveholder.
The Monroe Doctrine was a threat to European nations for multiple reasons. To begin with, the Monroe Doctrine was a document that was written by John Quincy Adams. The states that were affected by the Monroe Doctrine are the European countries and the independent, smaller countries such as Mexico. The main thesis of the Monroe Doctrine is that America has forbidden Europe from invading other individual countries. The doctrine is a threat because it states that foreign countries are forbidden to enter and colonize land in the western hemisphere.
His most famous piece of legislature, the Monroe Doctrine, came at a time when Eurasia was in a state of turmoil. In 1821, the Russian Tzar, Alexander I, declared that any territory above the 51st parallel would belong solely to Russia. This was an enormous threat for the sovereignty of the young United States since Russia colonized and governed Alaska since 1784 and had begun expanding southward toward the Oregon territory. Moreover, the Tzar banned any foreign ships from coming closer than 115 miles off the coast of the “Russian America”. and claimed a monopoly on fur hunting, fishing, and all trading in that region.
The Monroe doctrine was articulated during the period when there was the need for democracy. It was drafted by the then Secretary of State John Quincy Adams, and his primary reason was to end colonization and promote democracy. He feared that Spain could rise as a superpower and reign over united states' colonies. President James Monroe later implemented the Monroe doctrine. In the Monroe Doctrine, Adams indicated that there would be no new colonization in the new world and that countries would have democracy and freedom to rule themselves.
He also felt that it was his duty by the Universe’s ruler to aid and protect the land granted to him to serve. " Assuming responsibilities so vast I fervently invoke the aid of that Almighty Ruler of the Universe in whose hands are the destinies of nations and of men to guard this Heaven-favored land,”(James K. Polk, Inaugural Address, 1845). During Polk’s administration, the U.S had been threatened by European nations to intervene in American affairs—which was not the terms of the Monroe Doctrine. The Monroe Doctrine emphasized that European nations were to stay out of affairs within the western hemisphere. Seeing the United States was becoming its own independent power, they wanted to be recognized as so.
This means that America thought of itself as the greatest power, therefore pushing this power onto other countries. Roosevelt also has a sense of moral imperialism and pushed the boundaries of the federal government when he added onto the Monroe Doctrine the Roosevelt Corollary. The Roosevelt Corollary not only maintained the prohibition of European colonization of Latin American countries, but also stated that the United States had the power to intervene in those countries’ affairs in order to preserve democracy and order. This expansion of Monroe’s past policies demonstrates the undeniable continuity between the two presidentsn and how the role of the president expanded throughout
The Monroe Doctrine Continuation and Change on the U.S. Foreign Policy After decades of expansion, John Quincy Adams thought the United States should have dominance over the whole western hemisphere. Spain, though, had quite different ideas. They wanted to reestablish control over all their colonies in South America, Mexico, and Texas. Through fear of their colonies revolutionizing, Spain and other European countries created the "Holy Alliance", aimed at preventing revolutions in the name of Christian and monarchist principles. Because Britain's trade with these colonies would greatly suffer due to Spanish restrictions, they refused to join the Holy Alliance.
Along with his influential Secretary of State John Quincy Adams, Monroe issued the Monroe Doctrine, it kept the imperial European powers against interfering in the affairs of the newly independent Latin American states or potential U.S. territories in the Western hemisphere. It remained the intellectual underpinnings of the doctrine, Monroe granted diplomatic recognition to

It was Western Europe that was fundamentally important for US national security. The United Kingdom and a number of other European countries have taken active foreign policy steps to intensify US European policy. Europe needed economic assistance and military support. However, such a policy of Europe found understanding within the United States, which resulted in the Truman Doctrine and the Marshall Plan. The Marshall Plan, according to many researchers, is a practical embodiment of the Truman Doctrine.
Nostra heard about the Monroe Doctrine and had some idea to change it up. Ithad no more of it to be used solely for economic dominance and imperialism by the United States, but in conjunction with its twenty neighbors, to defend the collective security of the Western Hemisphere. But changing the Monroe Doctrine only changed some of its power. Still, the Monroe Doctrine could still have advance American economic and political interests in the Western
The Monroe Doctrine was a speech given in 1823 by James Monroe, the 5th president of the United States, to the U.S. Congress concerning European presence in the Western Hemisphere. Monroe was becoming continuously concerned about European influence in the region. While the primary audience for this message was Congress, the intended audience was all European powers, including Russia, and Latin America. The events in Latin America before and after the Spanish-American War will be used as an example of the imperial reach by the U.S. The United States, ironically, became an imperial power through its mission outlined in the Monroe Doctrine to end European colonialism and imperialism.
At the start of the 19th century, America was already expanding its territory. In 1803, the United States of America had bought the Louisiana Territory, it was bought from France which had made the country two times larger. In 1819 Spain had given up their territory of Florida to the United States. President Monroe issued the “Monroe Doctrine” in 1823, its main purpose was to warn the European countries to not enter the Western Hemisphere. In order for America to achieve its goal of becoming an imperialist nation they had conquered other countries economically, culturally, and with a strong military in the late 1800’s.
The basis of the Corollary was that it provided the United States justification for protecting the American countries from European countries who were seeking to reclaim debts. There was nearly identical to South American protection that the Monroe Doctrine tempted to justify. Therefore, concerning their underlying intentions,
This policy had a lot of influences and affects. The Monroe Doctrine had a lot of positive effects on the United States and Britain. It basically helped shape America as it is today. The Monroe doctrine states "In the wars of the European powers in matters relating to themselves we have never taken any part, nor does it comport with our policy to do so.
